Doug Hannon has created the perfect spinning reel with an innovative design that eliminates snags before they
happen by handling loops in a new way. The reel skips from peak to peak on each wave and forces loops to lie down
harmlessly eliminating tangles and birdnests. Loops are not offloaded during casts, which lowers friction for 30%
longer casts. This allows you to fill spool to a higher capacity. Works with both mono- and super-braid lines.

Awesome,April 5, 2008
By AKLeefrom Barryton, MI
"Not only do I love this reel, but my wife insisted on having a Wavespin as well, she had never used a spinning reel before. We fished all afternoon and I completely expected to be spending most of the day untangling her. Not once did she tangle the line, no birdsnest, no problems and she outfished me. WaveSpin is probably the smoothest spinning reel I have ever used, Ihave had mine since last July and still have not thrown a birdsnest. It does seem to give me a little better casting distance and does so with less effort. If a person can not use this spinning reel and notice the overall total advantages, then maybe they should try a cane pole as it is the only other way to fish I know of and not get a birdsnest. A very well made and solid reel that does what it claims at a price that is unbelievable, who could ask for more."

What a Great Reel,September 22, 2009
By Fiker101from Michigan
"This reel is one of the best reels that I have ever used. I fish alot of tournaments and I was trying to get an edge on the competition. Finding these reels have been one of the best things to happen to me. With no birdsnests I have way more time fishing and less time picking line out of the reel. Also with longer casts I can stay farter back from the fish and still reach them. I have been using these reels since they first came out in 2007 and I havent had any major problems with any of the 10 reels that I own. Since then I have increased my tournament standings tremendously and I credit the wavespin reel for most of that. I would recommend these reels to anyone from beginners to professionals. They are well worth the money, and with a two year warranty they make them one of the best buys out there."

Simply The Best,August 29, 2009
By TimeRangerfrom Las Vegas, NV
"I recently gave my new DH3000 a 3-week workout on the lakes and streams in northern part of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. I loaded the reel with 150 yards of 10lb Spiderwire and enough backing line (10lb mono) to fill the reel. I loaded the reel according to directions. Problems: 1) Due to the "slickness" of the spool, I found it difficult to get the line (mono) to hold onto the spool enough to start the filling process. Applying a wrap of masking tape around the spool hub quickly and easily solved this. 2) I did not apply nearly enough tension to the line (braid) when filling the reel, and on my first fish-fight, the braid dug into itself. Solved this problem by tying a snap swivel to the line, attaching the swivel to a stationary object, stretching the line out and reeling the line back up with a LOT of tension. This also removed any twists that were in the line. 3) Upon initial use, the bail wanted to hang-up at the trip point and did not close smoothly. With use, this "clunking" diminished to the point where it is no longer a problem.
WaveSpin claims extended casting distances, so I put this to the test, on dry land. I compared casting distances using a Mitchell 300 loaded with the same line, on the same rod and with the same weight on the end of the line. Over the course of 20 casts with each reel, the WaveSpin consistently produced better results - 10-15 feet farther than the Mitchell 300.
Performance: During my 20-day trip, I logged an average of 5 hours per day with my rod in hand - Lake Huron, inland lakes, rivers and streams. Something happened that I have never experienced before with a spinning reel - Not a single "bird's nest" or line-loop on the reel...Not ONE!
Pros - Drag: Silky smooth...one of, if not thee best that I have ever used. No problem getting it loose enough to play and land a 16lb Lake Trout in open water, tight enough to horse pike and bass out of a stump field or anywhere in between. The Mfgr also supplies extra drag parts and spacers if the need should ever arise. Spool - The spool is a 2-piece design. When you need to strip off the old line and refill the reel, there is no more "strip"...just unscrew the "sawblade" rim and the line just falls off. NOTE - I was somewhat worried about this feature in that I was afraid of the spool parts separating during use. So far, I have well over 100 fishing-hours on this thing and it has not happened. Crank Handle: Left or Right hand design. When I first got the reel, I was a bit skeptical - the crank knob seemed to be overly large and awkward. Not the case - it is an Excellent design. The handle also loosens and collapses for compact storage. Lubrication port - allows easy lube of the internal workings without having to take the reel apart.
Drawbacks: 1) The Mfgr does not include an Owners Manual or maintenance instructions. 2) The "exploded diagram" supplied (on the box's inner flaps) is nearly impossible to read without a microscope. However, I emailed them about this and they immediately responded with a .jpg file that is easily enlarged for viewing or printing.
Bottom Line: So far, this is probably the best spinning reel that I have ever owned, including those that were 3X the price. Will it outlast my (now retired) 30+ year-old Mitchells? I hope to live long enough to find out. I have already purchased the larger DH4000 for next year's salmon trip."

Mistakes,August 8, 2009
By warmouthfrom Colorado City, Texas
"I read some of the other reviews saying that they had problems with the line on the reel, such as, lines getting knotted, etc.etc. The reel came with a DVD that states that if you do not put the line on the reel properly it will have similar problems. The solution is to KEEP THE SPOOL OF LINE STATIONARY while you load the line. The best way to do so is to put a weight on the spool an make sure that the line is coming off of the spool CLOCK-WISE. This should solve all of your tangle and twist problems."

Excellent Product,May 27, 2009
By Garrittfrom Ohio
"I've bought the WaveSpin DHXL and DH3000. These reels come with a DVD explaining how they're built, why they work, and how to fish with them. The DVD also includes some lessons from the "Bass Professor". Overall, I have fished for 40+ years and always used spinning reels. I have never seen a reel perform this well. The small DHXL is a crappie fishermans dream. It casts light lures farther than you can dream. It handles the light 2 lb line with ease. Never a snarl or birds-nest, always smooth. The normal sized DH3000 is also amazing. I run 12 lb Fluoro and use this reel for tossing heavy (3/4 to 3 oz) cranks and swimbaits. Casting distance is excellent. Very smooth retrieve action. The circle handle fits perfectly in your hand and can be gripped however you feel most comfortable.
Overall, WaveSpin is an amazing line of reels. Great casting distance, super smooth retrieves, and never a birds-nest. Honestly, I've never even had a "line over".
Best darn reel I've ever used. Period."

"I've used numerous spin reels in the past. This reel is by far the best reel I've used. I no longer get the birds nest, it is smooth casting and reeling in, and my cast is a bit farther compared to using other similar reels."

Wavespin reels,May 8, 2009

"I began using the Wavecast spinning reels two years ago. Recently I used the new generatjion, Wavespin series. They have all worked well under all condiions. Never had any trouble. They cast extremely well, the drag system is superior to highter priced spinning reels and, I have not experienced any line troubles. I've been fishing since the 50's and the Wavespin spinning reels have my seal of approval. I have thirty plus rods and I intend having a Wavespin reel on each.
Try it, you will get hooked on it too."

Wave Spin excels,April 20, 2009
By runamuckfrom Miami Florida
"This reel lived up to it's billing quite well. I had the chance to put it through it's paces at the Everglades National Park, in Whitewater Bay as well as on the reef outside of Elliote Key East of Miami. In the shallows of Whitewater Bay I cought Snooks, Lady Fish, Snappers, Cat Fish and some big, hard fighting Jacks. The reel performed very smoothly on the drag and it had plenty of toughness to keep the fish from pulling you into the mangroves. Although, it was very windy and I was fishing fast cranking lures, I didn't expereince a single line problem. (That's a First!). On the ocean side the real worked just a well, again without any problems what so ever. The quality of the real was made more eveident with every fish landed."

By onawrxhighfrom Pine Beach, NJ
"I used this reel for the first time on a guided Disney Fishing Excursion while on vacation in Florida. I have to say that it is one of the best if not the best spinning reels I have ever used. I was throwing everything from light topwater plastics to 1/2 ounce lipless crankbaits and never had a birdsnest of any kind. This reel is very easy to use and is very forgiving after casting the light baits. I plan on purchasing a few of these reels for myself and family members. GREAT PRODUCT."

Florida Pompano fisherman,March 30, 2009
By Unclemajorfrom Fort Pierce, FL - retired and fish mostly Pompano
"I almost always use conventional reels and rarely use spinning tackle but recently I started throwing 1/4 oz jigs for Pompano in the Indian River lagoon and couldn't cast them well with a conventional reel. Bought a new Penn spinning reel and there must be some problem with me and spinning reels, I was continually throwing birds nests. Saw an ad for WaveSpin reels and bought one to see if I could eliminate birds nests. Loaded the reel with 8# Ande line and continued to throw birds nests (maybe not quite so many). My nephew suggested loading up with Power Pro line since it had no memory and things have improved - no birds nests so far but I have been careful to look out for loops outside the spool. I think I'm one of the few people that have enormous problems with spinning gear. I will keep trying this reel out and may come back with another evaluation. As far as I'm concerned, spinners are for other people and, if it weighs 3/8 oz or more, I will throw it with a conventional reel. The only exception is Surf spinning reels chunking 5 ozs or so - no problems there, although I still favor conventional reels for surf fishing. Aside from the teeth on the spool, which is a small improvement, it is as good as other medium priced spinning reels."

It does what they claim,March 10, 2009
By wing1800
"I have been using the WaveSpin brand for over a year now and over all, I love them. I bought my first two from the Calelas catalog and have purchased two more since. I did have a probelm with one of the four but when I called their service number they took care of the problem. Their service and the time frame to resolve the problem was outstanding. The company sincerely cares about it's customer and the product is all it claims to be. They also answered all my questions and even gave me some pointers on a couple things. Doug Hannon himself even called to make sure I was satisfied,,,you bet I am Doug, thank you"

Line twists are gone!!!,March 7, 2009
By rdcrewsfrom SC
"I love using spinning reels when I fish. In the past, I hated getting line twist in the middle of a bass tournament when the fish were schooling and I missed out on the action. WaveSpin lives up to it's billing. I've used Wave Spin reels for over a year now and have never had a line twist. Also the look alone is always a conversation piece. No other reel looks or fishes like a WaveSpin!"

Great customer service,March 3, 2009
By super105
"These are great reels. They eliminate birdsnest and let you cast farther, and the reel holds up to some big fish. What else can you ask for? I had an issue with casting like some other of the reviews but I called up wavespin to ask them about it and they told me to fill my spool up in between the tip of the teeth and the bottom grove and it should help. Oh boy did it help, now I can throw the thing a country mile. I was only filling the spool less than the bottom groove. Thanks Wavespin for such a great reel and great customer service."

Great Fishing Reel,March 3, 2009
By ECharles
"I have never sent in a review for any product before, but wanted to mention that I purchased a DH 3000 in june of 2008 and really liked the reel. I decided to purchae another while I was at a Cabela's store and bought a 09 DH 3000. Now I liked the 08 version just fine, but this 2009 Wavespin is the nicest reel I have ever seen. Smoother, beautiful in appearance and it even seems more soild that before and I love the new drag. A truly great reel."

Just works,March 3, 2009
By nostrings
"I don't know how, but this thing works. They say that loops hide down between the waves and the fast moving line in the cast rises to the top and never gets under and picks up the loops, pulling them off with all the line on top of them. It makes sense that a loop, once uncovered, is a harmless bit of slack in the line, that can leave unnoticed, the same way they came on the spool. All I can say is, "you gotta see this to believe it". From now on I am a believer in Cabela's, who called it the "perfect reel" and in Doug Hannon, you know, the guy that wasn't lying when he told us his trolling motor prop would go through weeds?"
