Good tent - some issues,November 20, 2009
By Anonymousfrom Maryland
"I bought this last May to take the family camping on Assateague Island. I set it up in the back yard twice and was pleased at how easy it was to set-up. I've set-up my share of tents, so I have some experience, but novices shouldn't have a problem. The tent was a perfect fit for a queen, twin, and single air mattresses all lined up along the length of the tent. That left plenty of room at the foot of the matresses for our dog and gear.
The tent is heavy, but I'm used to backpacking tents.
I was VERY dissapointed with the tent's peformance in the wind. It help up structurally, but the high flat walls catch the wind like a sail. Moreover, the walls have way too much slack. When the gusts cam, the walls would blow in and out with a lot of noise and power. I was sure the walls would rip. ANd I was sure the kids would wake-up - it was LOUD! Luckinly they were passed-out cold from a long day at the beach.
This is a great tent where the elements are not too much of an issue. But I don't recommend it for Assateague Island."

"Weathered heavy wind and rain this year, not a single leak. roomy enough to fit our family of five happily (queen size air mattress, play pen and two sleeping bags with room to spare). Alot of condensation inside this year, but it was a very wet week. Better set up instructions would have been nice, but we figured it out, and it goes up easily enough. Good family tent, hope to get many years out of it. Two and counting so far."

HOME SWEET HOME TENT,October 7, 2009
By A1FITZ
"We recently returned to tent camping after about a 30 year absence. We recently spent 10 days in our new Cabela's two room cabin tent. There are very many styles and types out there and you should first know what type of camping you are going to do. We wanted to do car camping in state parks with some civilized trappings like water, fire pit, picnic table bathrooms with showers. I say this because this is not a backpacking tent as it weighs about 40 pounds. It is packaged in a very strong and durable nylon bag with carrying handles and easily fits in our SUV and uses minimal storage when not in use. My wife and I raised the tent the first time in about 30 minutes (without getting a divorce) and raised it in less time after that. It is simple to erect with color coded poles and easy to read instructions. The walls are nearly vertical with about a seven foot ceiling and a 10 x 14 ft floor. The tent has excellent windows doors and screens for access and ventilation. It did not rain on us, but was very damp every night and I did not notice any leakage. We experienced some wind but nothing you could call strong, but I feel the tent will withstand a pretty good blow. There were only 2 of us but we had two full sized cots, 1 folding tables, 2 chaise lounge chairs and a portable toilet inside. It was my goal to be able to spend a day or so inside if we had to and this tent would have allowed us that. The floor appears to be thin so I used an inexpensive tarp for a ground cover and bought a cheap roll of carpeting to cover the inside floor to prevent punctures and allow walking around barefooted. The tent disassembled easily and all went back into the original bags. This tent worked very well for the two of us for the type of luxury camping we want."

Worth the money,October 1, 2009
By ricemanazfrom Arizona
"I bought this tent last year for my husband and my son to use during hunting season. They said it was very roomy and worked great. I went camping with them last weekend and it was the first time I had to use the tent. It was very easy to set up, but you definately need more than one person to help you. Airflow is great, plenty of windows and doors. I can,t say enough about the room we had. We use ovversized cots to sleep on, had 2 large dogs with us, and still had plenty of room to store supplies. If we hadn,t used cots, we could have easily fit at least 8 sleeping bags in there. We have the bigger size. We did apply water proof sealant to it when we first got the tent. it rained last hunting season and no leaks! It was well worth the money we spent on it!"

"Great tent. Did take two to set up but was very easy once we figured out the directions. The tent weathered a very nasty rain storm the second night out and not a single leak. We could not be more pleased with the quality, the price, and the timely shipping. Our camping trip was made even better with the huge tent. There are only two of us so it is like a second home but it would easily accomodate several grandkids and all their junk. I give it five plus stars. Thanks Cabelas."
"I bought this tent for some camping and mostly for the nascar races. I used this tent for three days while at the bristol nascar race, and is did the job. It was pretty easy to set up, and figure out. You will have to at least have two people. I really don't think that one person can set this tent up. After setting up the first time, it is very easy. The tent rods are color coded and easy to understand. After setting the tent up. I was amazed of how large the tent is and roomy. We had friends with us and we put up the divider and they had there's, and we had our space. I put up two queen sixed beds and we still had a large amount of room. The zippers worked great and had good ventilation. At night it got cold and I zipped up everything and it stayed warm and cozy. Saturday night it came a insane rain, and the tent did not leak any. I was amazed. It rained about 1.5 inchs, and the tent stayed very dry. At little condensation got on the tent, but it is a tent. Taking down the tent was easy and fit in the pack very well. I look forward to using the tent more this year for deer hunting and just regular camping. I highly recommend the tent. The price is good and everything went well. If you are looking for a tent, this one will serve you well. Thanks Cabelas for making yet another great product."

Elk base camp,September 4, 2009
By GrizzlyDavefrom Thousand Oaks, California
"I have had this tent since 2001. Every year it goes with us to Colorado and is our base camp when we bow hunt for elk for 10 days in September. We set up Easy-up tarps out front for the kitchen and sleep in the tent. Why buy an expensive wall tent when this tent is available and does the same job. This is a great tent and very easy to set up. I can do it myself but one other guy is better. 10 minute set up and 10 minute take down; that is all. You can easily sleep 4 guys in comfort with all their gear in this tent. Only problem is that sometimes with heavy rain there can be some water accumulation in a corner. We always just throw a tarp over the top just in case because any tent, even advertised waterproof can get a little water inside in heavy rain. Over all, this is a great great tent. Highly recommend it."

Awesome tent,September 2, 2009
By tlh9749from Ramona, California
"I purchased this tent about 2 years ago and had used it in mostly good weather conditions, a little rain but nothing serious. This year I used it in S.Dakota during several days of severe thunderstoms, rain and lightening with possible hail and tornadoes ! ! It held up perfectly. We were the only ones without water in our tent. The wind was very strong and the tent and stakes held on. We did put V shaped stakes in front of the support poles and tied the poles to the stake in addition to staking the tent floor. I believe that really made a big difference. Felt like The Wizard of Oz's Dorothy inside the tent except we did not blow away. The roomy tent is great and I never feel cramped inside. Nice to be able to stand up and get dressed, have a small table to wash up at inside. Have used it with my daughter and grandson, a playpen fits inside very well. Easy to put up with 2 people but 1 person could do it. Well worth the price."

Lesson learned while camping in the rain.,August 24, 2009
By TheMagnetfrom Idaho
"Pitched the tent per instructions. Everything is fine until we wake up to 20 gallons of rain water on each roof. We were not using the awnings luckily or it would have been a disaster. That slight lip (seam) between the roof material and the awning fabric allowed a small amount of water to gather, that water created just enough weight to sag the roof slightly and thus, accumulate more water, sagging the roof further.
The solution is to use the awning's center roll-up retaining barrel as a means to tighten up the center of the roof on the eaves. Just run the barrel through the center roof pole loop several times in order to shorten and thus tighten the center of the roof at the eave. This allows the rain (tested with a garden hose) to run off the sides and NOT accumulate on the roof. Other than that, what a great tent !!!"

I am indoors kind of gal,August 23, 2009
By gertrude1999from Western PA
"I am not an experienced camper; however, my husband is an avid sportsman and he wishes to share his love of the outdoors with our 5 year old daughter. Therefore, we required a larger tent than the dome tent that we used years ago when we were dating (if you can't beat it; join it ).My husband (a.k.a. Davey Crockett) wanted to purchase a complicated monstrosity with a rain fly and I envisioned us at 2 in the morning assembling said tent and referring to each other in rather derogatory terms ! In an effort to keep the peace, I investigated the alternatives and found this tent which received good reviews. Although this tent was ~ $60-70 USD more than Davey wanted to spend, it performed admirably. Without prior setup, the tent only took 25min to assemble. It withstood a 45min down pour without the ceiling or floor leaking deapite the fact that water had ponded between the underlying tarp and floor of the tent. The ceiling and seams did not leak (because of the steeper pitch ???). The only drawbacks as far as we were concerned were: rain pooled in the canopy over the entrance and the stakes were very long and required a pry bar for extraction. This is a very nice tent for family use and I would recommend it without reservation !"

Good basic tent,August 18, 2009
By MEIWfrom Detroit, MI
"We bought this tent and immediately went on a two week camping trip. Overall, it afforded plenty of room and weathered 48 straight hours of severe thunderstorms with high winds and driving rains. It is simple to put up -- after you do it once and with the exception of the center ridge, can be put up by one person.
It does have a few issues: The first thing we did was replace the tent stakes. Inadvertantly stepping on one of the provided tent stakes feels like a sharp nail is piercing your foot.
The door system is cumbersome. If you want to roll-up the solid door for ventilation, you have to open the screen in order to secure the solid door. Perhaps this is a height issue -- but husband wasn't tall enough to secure it either. Because the solid door is on the outside, you have to exit the tent to change/control air flow. It would be better if the solid door were incorporated into the screen with perhaps a top opening system -- similar to the windows.
The lack of a rain fly causes ventilation problems in the rain. Because nothing is protected, all of the doors and windows need to be closed to prevent rain from entering -- no ventilation.
This tent is severly lacking any utility hooks. No place to really hang a lantern or lights.
Like all awnings, the awnings on this tent fill with water during a rain. I'm not sure what the solution to this problem is; we end up removing one pole and using a bungee cord on that corner."

Very Roomy,August 17, 2009
By mhm73from Washington State
"We have used our tent once and we were very happy with the large interior. The only negative was that the tent poles are black and were extremely hot when setting up and taking down the tent. I would recommend setting up and taking down the tent in the shade and/or in the cooler times of the day to save your hands and fingers. Other than that, we are pleased with our purchase."

cabelas 2 room rent,August 10, 2009
By hckyislifefrom greene, maine
"We just purchased this tent a few weeks ago and used it last weekend. We based our purchase on past reviews and we were very pleased with the purchase. It rained quite heavily one night and we were perfectly dry. It is very spacious. We were 2 adults and 4 children plus our golden retriever. Everyone had a foam mattress and we still had plenty of room to walk around. I would definitely recommend this tent."

Roomy & practical,August 7, 2009
By WVadventurerfrom WV
"Great tent - easy to set up and practical. I was even able to set it up myself, but having two people helps. It was perfect for three days at a campsite. I treated it with spray but it didn't rain, so I have yet to see how it will do in rain. Love the two doors. I hope it holds up in rain, but it is a GREAT TENT!"

Very Nice product.,August 6, 2009
By Pup2345
"It has been a long time since we camped in a tent, but we decided to try this one. It is very roomy for 2 adults and 3 dogs. The absence of a rain flap was not an issue - just remember to close the windows! We had a torrential rain, and the tent was very dry inside. There are a lot of stakes, so allow time to pound them in and to pull them out! The color-coded poles really makes the set-up process go smoothly. We had read the reviews about the lighter nylon flooring, so we put down a tarp and it was just fine. Actually made clean-up alot easier too."

Great for the Money!,July 26, 2009
By EJOEJOfrom Denver
"We have only set up the tent twice so far. Once in the front yard to practice and once in Camping at 8,500 feet in the Rocky Mountains. There was plenty of room for the familiy of four and one dog. Easy to stand up. We went camping with a group of friends and this tent ended up being the play area for the kids and we did not have any issues with the zippers or any damage even with kids coming and going. We will see if this durabilty continues over time.
The weather on our trip was nice so we did not test the tent in a storm, but it did get just below freezing overnight. We did not have any condensation issues. We did leave all of the windows open a crack at the top to ensure we had adaquate ventilation since other reviewers complained about condensation.
If you get this tent, make sure your leave the windows and doors open when you take the tent down or you will never get all of the air out of the tent. First time we took the tent down we had the windows and doors closed and the tent was one big air bubble and it was hard to get the door open with the poles out. The second time with the windows and doors open the tent went down very easy.
Bottom Line - Have not used it enough to verify durabilty, but after one camping trip we are very happy with the tent and feel it was a great purchase for the money."
