Cabela's Prodigy Spinning Reel,

"I bought several of these to upgrade my fishing equip. They are very smooth and the retrieval rate is what I prefer. I used them on a Canadian fishing trip this fall and they held up and worked very well. the drags were smooth even on 20# pike and lakers. You can spend more money but I don't know that they are any better than these reels."

Cast beautiful but broke.,

"Took it salmon fishing to SE Alaska, was working beautifully until a big King tore the bail off. Half way thru the trip, left me in a bind, had to buy a reel in AK at their prices. Returned it when I came home and they sent me a new one (however I did request a refund since I bought a replacement). The extra spool is an added benefit. Very smooth reel."

"I do a lot of Chesapeake Bay fishing. I mounted the reel on a Lightweight pole. The 2 lb. croakers are a fun fight. But every once in a while a big skate comes along and this reel stood up to the heavy fight. Smooth reel in action. Love it."

"I took the reel out for the first time and one of the seven ball bearings must have seized or the pneumatic drive gave way because I was able to cast four times and the reel just wouldn't turn any more. I also lost my lure as it went to the bottom and lodged itself firmly so I had to cut my line. I'm not angry just stating the facts, thanks."

"I am extremely impressed with the Cabela's Prodigy spinning reel. I have several more expensive "top brand" reels in my bag, and none are any better than the Prodigy. It has a great feel/balance, is very smooth, has a flawless drag system, is made of high quality materials and looks great too! I would buy another Prodigy in a heartbeat."

"On recomendation from my best friend who is an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, I purchased the Prodigy. I've used it several times now and I love it. With the 10# test braided line, my casts are not only super smooth but long and accurate as well.
Bello (my best friend) was right, the Prodigy is the best reel on the market for its price. It's a real value... I love it!"

"Purchased the 2000 size reel and have used it for shore and boat casting as well as trolling. The retrieve is extremely smooth, the bail clicks over easily, it is sturdy, yet lightweight. It is well worth the price, especially when compared to reels of the same quality, but of greater monetary value."

"This is my main spinning reel. I use it for plugging, surf casting, baitfishing, and light trolling. I have the 4000 size. Its light despite a solid construction. Handles braid fine. Fast retrieve. Has a strong drag. Casts far - I really like the Prodigy's/Daiwa's spool design for distance.
The reel doesn't survive dunking (like most reels). But the major problem is the handle always loosens up. I have to constantly tighten the plastic screw on the opposite side to keep the handle from falling off."
