Not what I expected,

"Having never purchased Merrell's before, I decided to try them. They are indeed lightweight and easily broken-in, they are NOT waterproof. They work just fine for "puddle-jumping" around town, but if your looking for a every day, out in the field performer, these are not it. It's no fun to work or play with wet feet all day and that's what you'll get if conditions are not dry. Needless to say, these are my first and last pair of Merrell's."

"I bought these boots as a replacement for the Cabelas Active Hikers Mid becasue those boots suffered a broken lace grommet on the 2nd use so I sent them back.
I received the Merrell Moab XCR mids and took them out on the 1st day in a nasty rain storm. I hiked for about 3 hours through the woods and on trails. Walked through lots of puddles and some swampy areas and a few creeks. And the result?
Both boots leaked. I got home and took them off, my socks were wet around the foot BUT not around the ankle. I felt the inside of the boots and they had leaked through around the toes and the upper middle section. What a disappointment! I thought that spending the money for the Merrel name was going to get a quality boot."

"I love them!! I am deployed to OEF and these beat the heck out of my issue boots. They are comfortable and well wearing. I also have the low cut Moabs for kicking around. I'll buy another pair when I wear these out. I love the wide size and wish Merrell would offer more of their shoes in wide sizes."

"I always look for extra wide shoes. Even though they state wide, they usually aren't. These hikers more than met my expectations. I am a roofing contracting and these shoes give me the support I need and let my feet breath. I highly recommend them and I have ordered another pair so when the day comes when they get worn out, I will another pair just like them."

Excellent Gortex Hikers,

"I am very hard on shoes & boots. When it comes to clothing & outdoor gear, I am very critical and require high performance & quality. These hikers are no exception here. I wear them remote camping, fishing both in a boat on onshore, walking in the wet woods with my dog & family and everywhere else. I expect them to be comfortable AND waterproof. When fishing, which I do the most of, I expect to be able to walk in the water at the dock when putting the boat on the trailer and not have the shoes leak. Of course they have not yet.
Right out of the box, they fit well and felt like well made running shoes, lightweight & comfortable & flexible. I have had them for 6 month so far and they are exceptional in quality, comfort and value. I have had Merrill sandals and they also have been the most comfortable sandals on my feet (I'm not a yuppy Birkenstok thong wearing hippy either).
Quality all the way!!"

"these are great hikers. I used them to hike all the historical sites in the region. they breath well in the heat which in the Middle East is a plus. the traction cannot be beat. I have used Merril before, and have never been dissapointed."

"wore these for three months . seamed to hold up against the water pretty good but as time went on, they leaked more and more. very comfy but stay out of water. GORTEX. NOT IN THESE BOOTS!!!!"

My first hiking boot,

"It took awhile to break them in. I put a Dr. Scholl's foot pad inside them for arch support. I am sure it is only because my feet are goofy. They are an extremely comfortable now and I like the waterproofing in the shoe. I walk the dogs everyday and I look forward to putting on my Merrills. They are the lightest boot/shoe I own. I would buy another pair."

"Have fought with uncomfortable shoes all my life. I have arch problems and have to wear supports. Purchased these Merrell's hoping for a comfortable shoe. These are wonderful. I wear them every day. I would probably wear them to church on Sunday, but the wife won't have it. They have worked well in water also, no sign of leaks."

"This boot is not waterproof! If you want a terrific fitting hiking boot that is super comfortable but not waterproof, this boot is terrific. It is Gortex in certain parts, not where there is fabric. I needed a waterproof boot for shore fishing. Other than that, it is all it's made out to be. Merrell is Tops!"

"I love these boots, I would recomend as do others on this review site, get a 1/2 size up from your normal size. I wear a 9 1/2 new balance shoe and the Merrell 10's fit like a glove. I live in central wisconsin and matched with a good smart wool sock they have got me threw some cold Feb days. I love them..."

"I have tried nearly a dozen different hiking boots over the last three or four years, and nearly all are quite good, but these Merrell Moab XCRs are the best.
I have a New Balance pair that I use for work I know will be wet and dirty, but for all around, general use shoes, these Moabs are the best I have ever had, They are so light and comfortable, I ordered a second pair for casual dress use. They are so light and comfortable, I may order a third pair to use as slippers.
No doubt about it, we live in the golden age of shoes. Never have feet had it so good."
