Sharkskin™ is one of the most innovative fly lines ever made by Scientific Anglers™ and is a true revolution in fly-line design. A long-casting, high-floating line made using innovative technology to reduce friction, improve flotation, boost durability and repel water. You won't believe how good this fly line performs until you take it out and start casting. Microreplicated structures in the line reduce friction, improve floatation, boost dutrability, eliminate flare and repel water. When it comes time to shoot line, Sharkskin delivers effortless distance by reducing friction through the rod guides. The microtextured coating increases surface area and repellency, allowing the line to sit higher on the water. The improved water shedding also makes for effortless mending. Patented Advanced Shooting Technology (AST) chemistry combined with the line texture strenghten the coating durability. The textured surface also disperses light and reduces the chance of spooking fish.

Great Line - believe the hype!, November 20, 2009
    By Woollywilma from Maryland

"I got some WF for #7 line for my fast action 6wt rod a couple years ago, before they came out with the variety of tapers they have now. I think I'd like the GPX taper for #6 line more. Anyway, the line shoots and floats they they say it does and more. Here's the more:

It has very little memory without being too limp.
    It roll casts very well.
Its design allows it to shoot well while it's taper allows for delicate presentation and good roll casts.
    It is very durable!

I bought the DT #5 for my medium action 5 wt and WF #4 for my fast action 4 weight. I have been very happy with this line.
It is not as abrasive as people say!!

save your fingers!!, July 3, 2009
    By AAMRAM from N California

"I bought this sharkskin 5 wt trout taper on a lark because I just had a hard time justifying the price. There's no doubt about it, this stuff will cast farther than most of us can see without binoculars - WHEN IT"S CLEAN! When I first started out with the line I was drifting nympshs downstream. After about 10 minutes the line tip started to dive, which surprised me considering it has the welded loop. Anyway, I ran the line through my line dressing box (available from Cabela's and a great device) and it seemed to solve the problem. It does seem to get dirty faster than other lines. The other problem came when we began to fish streamers and strip the line. After a very short time this line began to abraid the skin on my fingers. It really takes the skin off and becomes uncomfotable to fish with. Stick with the mastery line, the extra 10 feet of casting distance isn't worth it."

Good But Needs Work, September 18, 2008
    By Michael51 from Oregon

"This fly line is very good for casting and floats really well. If you like to cast and drift smaller flies on short to medium casts, then you will probably like it. However, if you like to cast heavier streamers and strip them back quickly you might want to look at a different line. Every time you cast or strip in line two things will happen. First, you will hear a zing noise. Zing, zing. A little of this is no big deal, hundreds and thousands of zings gets really annoying. Second, a bit of the skin on your finger will be removed by the Sharkskin with each short retrieve. I quit fishing streamers just to save my pinky - a deep cut had formed where I rested the line. Finally, the price is just too high for what you get. I don't mind spending a few extra dollars to get high quality equipment, but Sharkskin is too high priced for what you get.
Sharkskin does have some great properties. It has no memory at all, it never coils up. It will cast farther than any other line I ever used. Mending is somewhat easier, too.
Until the price, noise, and flesh-eating issues are resolved my advice is to buy something else. Ask at your local fly shop if anybody there uses it.

    Sharkskin hmmm, August 7, 2008
By steve838 from I am a mad keen fly fisherman and fish all over NZ

"I found this line to be disappointing.Sure it shoots well and floats high for a while but the minuses definately out weigh the pluses.
    1. It is very noisy
2.It is NO good in dirty water as it picks up grit and pumice with ease making it even noisier let alone what this must do to the rings of your rod.
3.When casting a full line the rear of the line cuts your fingers when stripping it back in.
4.Don't even try and fish this from a sandy beach as it loves to pick up sand which sounds like sandpaper going thru your rod rings.
Far from good is my opinion.

It floats like nothing I've fished, May 1, 2008
    By Micahc316

"The line floats so high on the surface it took me about 30 minutes to get used to the way it fished...Roll casting was amazing to say the least. I would give yourself a bit of time on the water to get used to the way it floats mends and cast...But one I was comfortable w/ it, I can tell you I will probably never fish a different line."

    SHARKSKIN FLYLINE, April 21, 2008
    By BASSBREATH from CALIFORNIA

"OVERALL EXCELLENT LINE. IT'S BEST CHARACTERISTIC IS ABSENCE OF LINE COIL MEMORY. IT SITS ON THE DECK NICELY WITHOUT BEING STRETCHED. IT FLOATS WELL AND SHOOTS WELL. IT'S VERY FLEXIBLE SO REQUIRES SOME ANGLER ADJUSTMENT IF USED TO HANDLING A STIFFER LINE."

    By budman23 from ga

"good product. believe casts 10% furhter, although have not formally tested in comparison to other sa fly lines.
however, is hard on fingers and more likely to cause flyline "burns." additionally makes noise rubbing against guides when casting.

Not Good In Cold, March 31, 2008

"The only down fall that I found with this line.
Is that it holds lots of ice in cold weather. And with ice the line does not shot very well...

The ups and downs of Sharkskin, March 21, 2008
    By dfieli from Colorado

"Overall opinion of the line is that it is a wonderful casting, shoots well, floats extremely well, great on pickups, and is amazing in cold weather doesn't ice up as normal line would. The two downfalls that I've found so far is getting used to the sound of the line running through your guides, and if you're planning on stripping for a long period of time with wet hands this line will cut through your finger. Imagine running a guitar string over and over and over in one spot, pretty much like a paper cut. But once you learn to remember to adjust the line on your finger, and not to use it in one spot as drag on a large fish for too long you're good to go."

Better wait before you buy, March 7, 2008
    By Fishforever

"I recieved Sharkskin for Christmas and was very impressed as I used it. It did everything everyone claimed it would do.
Unfortunatly the last time I went fishing the line began to sink. It was the sixth time I had used the line. I took it back to my provider who promply called the manufacture. They were suprised and asked about the condition of my reel, when and where I was using it. Long story short they asked my provider to ship back the line and they would replace it. I really do hope I recieved a bad "batch". Anyway what happened is the line cracked at different sections throught the first 30-40 feet.
My advise is to wait before you buy and see if my experience was a fluke. I did love it when I first used it, best I had ever used but I question the ability to last.
    Good luck

    Great line!, February 25, 2008
    By Macro from Collierville, TN

"I've used Cortland 444, 555, and Rio Grand in 4 and 5 wts. Sharkskin has no memory at all (even on 45 degree water) and shoots really well. It floats well. The "zing" sound as it shoots through the guides is not an issue unless someone is trying to take a nap. Even at the high price point, I have no plans to buy any other type of line."

    Sharkskin, January 11, 2008
    By hackvance from Chico, Ca

"I received my new sharkskin for a christmas gift, and I cant say enough about how incredible this line is. The pickup off the water is effortless, even with indicator, weight, and tandom flies. Shooting line is even easier, and the turnover for presenting dries is fantastic. Worth every penny of the price tag."
