The Sage ZXL assumes the enviable position as the most versatile all-around rod from one of the world's leading
fly-rod manufacturers. The moderate-fast action perfectly bridges the gap between the fast-action Z-Axis and the
ultralight TXL. The ZXL rods are lightweight, strong and easy to cast for everyone who enjoys the relaxed casting
rhythm of a smooth progressive taper. The rod flexes down toward the grip, allowing you to lay down the most
delicate, accurate presentations. The ZXL's versatility makes almost every fish fair game, from the brookies in crystal-clear spring creeks, to the monster rainbows lurking in the depths of an alpine lake. Utilizing Sage's proprietary
Generation 5 (G5) Technology, the ZXL is crafted of lighter, more responsive graphite instead of traditional glass hoop
fibers. Every gram of unnecessary material is removed from the rod blank. This translates into an incredible amount of
line feel and response, resulting in intuitively better casting.

one word - superb,January 23, 2009
By sim82from Reykjavik, Iceland
"This rod is absolutely superb. If you’re looking for a light and very capable rod I would definitely recommend this. I have a 8,6ft line 3 it has handled Atlantic salmon so I am betting it can handle most other types of fresh water fish.... if not you have the lifetime warranty."

ZXL 480-4, Trout Stream Dream Rod Defined,December 14, 2008
By Zugbugzfrom Avondale, AZ
"I bought this rod to complement my 489-5 SLT, to get into the tighter spots the SLT was just a bit too long for. Well, I haven't used the SLT since, not even in the more open streams. I will start by saying everything you hear about the ZXL is true. It really is that good! I think one of the other reviewers nailed it...this rod is SMOOTH and ACCURATE. There's no thinking about where you want the fly to go...it goes right where you want it to, every time. The ZXL is an extension of your arm and hand. The balance is so perfect, you almost don't realize it's there in your hand...it's so easy to control the cast, you concentrate solely on the fishing...MAGIC! No problem throwing nymphs and indicators either, a task I found a bit tougher with the more whippy SLT. The icing on the cake is that you will not be able to keep the grin off your face when you feel the way this rod plays a fish! I didn't think Sage could out-do themselves when they created the Z-Axis, and maybe out-do is not the right term. What the Z-Axis did for fast action fly rods, the ZXL does for the traditional or more moderate taper rod. Power and delicacy! I'm hoping to get a nice brown on it this winter to really see what it can do. Buy one, you won't regret it - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!"

Sage 590-4 ZXL,August 23, 2008
By Kingfisher39from Hopkinton MA
"“Very light, very smooth, very accurate, almost intuitive and seems to relax in the hand. Will pick up and re-lay a short line with remarkable ease, and can cope with a distance cast just as well. Sage has produced a new rod that fills a well defined space with their usual skill, finesse and attention to detail. This is a fishing tool to enjoy.""

awsome rod,July 28, 2008
By flyfisher101
"This rod is great. I typically don't care much for sage rods because I prefer more traditional actions. But this is a slower action rod but has tons of power and is super light. I have the 7'6" 3wt and I love it. If you are looking for a rod to last a lifetime and are willing to spend the money the sage ZXL is for you."
