Pro Guide 4 piece Combo Tempest reel,September 9, 2009
By ysabourinfrom Terrace BC
"One hour of fishing with this kit and I caught a 42" Spring Salmon and landed it. I was using a Kitimat 45 lure. My tension was not adjusted very high so I had to make an initial adjustment when I caught this fish. I played in close to shore and then it took off sending the reel into a tempest. I readjusted the tension and started hauling the fish in from it's downstream run and proceeded to land the fish and release it into the river. I really had to put the wood to this fish and the rod was outstanding. I would not recommend catching fish of this size on this gear although amazing things are possible when played properly. Thanks Cabela's"

travel rod,August 30, 2009

"while there's nothing special about this set-up, it does what it says and works properly. The packaging and case is a bit bulkier than necessary, but the foam can be trimmed to make room for other tackle. I like it."

Quality Control,August 26, 2009
By CJBS2003from Stafford, VA
"The rod is of good quality. The real is over average quality. The small tackle box that comes with it is of average quality. The foam inside the carry case tears very easy. The case itself is great, however the zippers on it are a piece of junk and are my biggest complaint. Mine came with one zipper handle missing. The other zipper handle keeps popping off. I got the rod and real the day before I was leaving for a road trip so I didn't bother Cabela's customer service with my complaint as I know they probably would be made it better. By the time they shipped me a new one I would have long down the road and the set up was being used quite frequentlty on my trip... I just wish the product would have come in a higher quality state to begin with... It's darn hard to find a good quality travel kit! This kit proves that to be the case."

Cabela`s Pro Guide Travel Kit,August 24, 2009
By FisherBikermanfrom Stow,Ohio
"I thought the quality of materials was excellent buy for your money. I do however think the carry case is a bit overkill. After all it is a travel kit and that could mean different things to alot of people. Me, I was looking for something to put in the saddle bags of my motorcycle along with a few other things. With the case that this kit comes it that is just about all that will fit in my saddle bag. Overall quality of product is outstanding as well as service!"

Cabela's Shakespeare Travel Kit,August 12, 2009
By SarasotaPogifrom Sarasota, FL
"I was going on a trip to Kentucky and wanted to do some fishing up there. So I did some research and this Cabela's Tempest Travel Kit looked really good. The ordering was easy and the delivery was fast. I strung some 10lb. line on it and went fishing. The rod comes in pieces and goes together easily and the reel fits the rod nicely. I had no problems with the rod pieces moving or coming apart. The long rod really casts nicely and the reel is quite smooth. I caught some good size fish while in KY and the rod & reel had no problems. I look forward to using this rod and reel combo again soon. P.S. I had no problem at all going through the airport security with this combo containing a variety of lures and hooks in the case."

Tempest Fisherman Travel Kit = Quality,July 6, 2009
By Anonymousfrom Bessemer, PA
"All aspects of the Tempest Fisherman Travel Kit, rod, reel, and travel case are high quality. The travel case is much larger than I expected, it works well when traveling by car or truck. When traveling by plane, I had to pack the rod and reel without the case."

Fisherman's Travel Kit,July 1, 2009
By GTKidfrom Florida
"I bought this to take on a trip out west with my Dad. We both used it trout fishing on a lake. I liked it so much that I gave it to him as a Birthday present and will buy myself another one. I took the foam out of the case and put some thinner foam in it & was able to put 4 rods and three reels in it, so that it would fit in my suit case. I would recommend it to anyone that asked me about it."

Nice idea, Needs some improvement,May 28, 2009
By truckerjawfrom N. California
"I bought this travel kit a while back and decided to make sure I had a good opinion of it before i gave a review.
First off after just 3 short fishing trips the i included tackle box had a hinge break just closing it normally with almost no tackle in it.
The 5 rod pieces have a tendancy to twist and turn on you making the eyes not line up. I had to straighten them every 3 casts or so. In the future they should be made to fit tighter.
The case is much bigger then it needs to be. To make a little better use of the extra space I cut out a section of the foam between the reel and tackle box to hold a jar of power bait. The case is not too big but if you have room for it you will probably have room for a standard 2 piece trout rod.
On the first time using it one of the zipper handles came off.
Now if you can deal will all of those things here is what I think of actually using it. The rod and reel are very nice looking. I have gotten several complements on them.
I have landed quite a few 12-18" trout with out a problem. I like the action of the rod and the reel feels more solid then I expected. I have put a lot of pressure on both fighting snags and such with no problem. Its just that the separate pieces are a pain at times to keep straight as any little bump from the side will throw them off.
The case that it comes in is made out of a sturdy material but I had a zipper break the first day of use, lucky there are 2 of them so it didn't really effect me too much.
In the end if you are someone that doesn't fish much and want something you can just throw in your trunk this would probably work fine for you. But if you are someone that takes fishing more seriously then you may want to look into a better built product."

"I puchased this combo mainly so Icould have a quality combo to take on motocycle trips,I have not been disapointed. The rod is excellent with a great feel not usally found in a 5 piece rod.The reel is very smooth and has a silky smooth drag, something I was'nt expecting at this price.I think it's just right for smallmouth fishing here in central PA.Last but certainly not least the case is good quality and provides ample protection."

"I just picked up my kit and the zippers on the case were defective, not to worry, I live near the Hazelwood store. I will take it back and the problem will be resolved immediately. As for the rest of the kit only time will tell, It appears sturdy and well made. I am always impressed with the excellent service I get at Cabela's. 4 stars to the product, 5 stars to Cabela's."
