Match the Traditional II Rods with the Prestige Plus reel for an economical combo.
Cabela's Traditional Rods have long been a customer favorite for delivering premium performance at an affordable price. The updated Traditional II rods take this performance to a whole new level. These are fast-action rods for the frugal fly-fisherman. They are constructed of high-modulus graphite that generates high line speeds. The rod has
appealing aesthetics with the combination of an olive-colored blank and dark rosewood reel seat (fighting butt on 8- and 9-weight rods). Specific rod models are available to cover a wide range of fly-fishing situations.
We took the value-packed performance
of our popular Prestige series and stepped everything up a notch. A new disc-drag system sports a cork drag washer and adjusts to a wider range of settings. The cast-aluminum frame has an unmatched strength-to-weight ratio, and the new midarbor design yields plenty of backing capacity for battling long-running fish. The molded, paddle-style handle and large drag-adjustment knob round out the features on this exceptional reel. Combos come with Prestige Plus fly line and backing.

"Just bought this rod and reel combo-9'6" 8wt to tackle lake Erie steelhead and could not be more happy. The responsiveness of the rod is amazing and the reel is great for the money, not to mention the drag is top notch."

Sweet Rod,January 20, 2009
By Pmiller3825from Upstate, NY
"I bought this rod as a raffle prize that I'll donate to our conservation club. What a sweet rod! Nice smooth action. More limber than most of today's rods. I think it will be a good rod for someone to learn on."

beginner value outfit,September 4, 2008
By zing10from nj
"I purchased the 6wt. I am by no means an experienced fly caster but I was unable to get a good feel from this rod right from the start. it is definitely too heavy for average size trout and small to medium size bass IMO. I think the very fast action contributes to that fact. I also felt the rod was a tad on the heavy side when I went to the store to compare other rods. I wound up purchasing the TFO Series one combo instead as I tried the rod in a store and it seemed to have more responsiveness. if you're going to get this particular rod for all around trout go for the 5 weight or maybe even the 4 if you're not going to crossover to bass much. This 6 weight did not seem to help me at all with large terrestrials and small poppers. I didn't care much for the line either (tip seemed to sink too often) but the reel is and excellent value even if purchased by itself at full price. very good, smooth drag system. getting the same reel on the new outfit. despite my misgivings the package is certainly a good beginner value for the money. the rod tube is a great compliment."

Nice rod and reel for San Juan,July 25, 2008
By coditribeplmfrom New Mexico
"Bought this 4 piece 5 wgt for San Juan nymphing. Works great, better feel than my 6 wgt. Unfortunately the first joint froze, so now it's a 2 piece. Other than that, it casts great and is soft enough to play large fish, even when they jump. Caught a large brown in the first hole I fished!"

Very nice fly fishing combo!,July 3, 2008
By ScubaStingerfrom Chester Springs, PA
"I just recently got back into fly fishing and my buddy told me I need to upgrade my rod to graphite. I purchased this combo 9' 6WT 4 piece, with Prestige Plus reel. I really like the way it performs, and the rod is also very nice looking as well. My friend who's been an avid fly fisherman for many years says that it really works well, and you can't beat the price. (This line is ok, it's kind of bright)"

8wt Trad / Prest combo w/line,June 23, 2008
By panzerclauserfrom San Juan Bautista, CA
"Bought for Smallie / Pike trip to BWCA. Specifically to have a heavier rod then my 6wt with me. Instead of being the back up, it became the primary rod. 2 piece rod was stiff enough to toss size 4-6 clausers, tungston weighted flies. Delicate enough to lay down woolies and lighter sinking flies. Top water no problem. Reel is simple, no problems. Use as line keeper, nothing fancy here. Might want to upgrade line, little grippy through the guides. Price is right for that back up rod, with some upgrades a solid fish catching rod. (yup, it handles pike too!) Go Cabela's!"
