Cabela's Fly Rod,

By FLSalmon

"For the cost and action this rod was a perfect selection. We use the 4 piece for travel convience and this rod even came with a hard case ( suitable for carrying a second rod ). I've used the 9 wt. for Salmon in Alaska and have been very pleased."

Entry level rod,
August 24, 2009
By Clawson
|
"I'm bought this rod as a backup rod for river salmon and steelhead fishing, but I've been using it regularly for fly fishing for smallmouth in Lake St. Clair, MI. For an entry level rod it has really impressed me. Medium action, good punch in the wind...a good feel. Comes with a hard case that equals the ones that come with much more expensive rods. Buy it."

Great value rod,
August 18, 2009
By Hettiehatch

"i recommended the Traditional II 2-piece 4 WT 7 1/2' rod to my sister who is a beginner fly fisher. I have been fly fishing for more than 25 years and, while I now have various rods of different lengths and weights from other rod makers, my original Cabela's 1981 vintage fly rod is still a favorite. We ordered one online and rigged it up to try out the day it arrived. She loved it and I was impressed by how well she was able to cast with it. I like it well enough to have bought the 4-piece version for myself and recommended it to a co-worker who is teaching his grandson to fly fish."

"I haven't got it to the salt yet, but this rod worked great on my local largemouth pond. The extra length gives great lift with bulky bass flies, and the rod is very responsive. I am very happy with this rod!!"

Cabela's Traditional II 4 weight 9' fly rod,
August 10, 2009
By rainbownater
from Eastern Washington
|
"I bought my first traditional II from Cabela's about 1.5 years ago and thought it was great for the money. It's by far adequate for the serious fisherman, its not so much the rod that's casting, its the caster behind the rod.......At any rate, I consider myself very advanced at casting and am more than pleased with Cabela's Traditional II rods......I guess that's why I now own 5 different models of Traditional II rods.....I've caught 10lbs steelhead with my 8 weight and 4lbs rainbows on my 7.5' 4 weight. I love these rods."

Great Rod.....,

By rockyjammer

"Originally got this rod for a back up, since the price was right...This rod impressed me so much that is one of my primary used rods along with a sage and a orvis. I use Three rods...Got a seven weight rod to battle the huge trout at Antero...This rod is stout and casts well in the wind..craftmanship is better than you would expect for the price...Overall great deal..."

great 4 wt.,

By adalanem

"EASY EASY EASY rod to cast and has good sensitivity and feel. Very smooth action. Noticed a marked difference even from my three forks 5wt. Don't overwork this rod. It does plenty of work on it's own. Only caught 6-10" brookies and cut-throats, but seemed to allow for fun in the fight while maintaining a good amount of strength. Paired well with Cabela's RLS 4wt. reel."

Poor Performance,
August 4, 2009
By NGROD
from New Hampshire
|
"Just bought a traditional II 4 piece 9 foot 5 wgt for a trip out out west. Had rod for two weeks and used rod twice in northern new england --- in kayak on pond and wading in a stream -- seemed difficult to cast even in these less than trying circumstances, and then tip broke off!! --- do not know whether difficulty related to a defective tip --- I suspect it might be the case -- in any event, rather disappointing rod performance so far --- am in process of returning."

Cabela's Traditional II Fly Rods,

By JPG34

"I am just getting into fly fishing and was looking for quality at a reasonable price. These rods fit my needs very well. I purchased a 5wt & 9wt to cover all my needs. The cases that come with them is a nice added plus. Although I have yet to use them, several of my experienced fly fishing buddies were quite impressed with the rods for the price I paid. Might change to 5 stars once I start using them."

Good rod for open water.....,
August 3, 2009
By Trublu
from Pa
|
"I found the 7.5 ' 4 wt rod to load quickly at moderate casting distances. It carried the 4 wt line well on long casts when there was a lot of room for the backcast. I didn't find the rod loading well at short distances and it was less effective when I tried to roll cast with it. If you have open water with lots of room to backcast, (a lake or floating a larger river) this rod is really quite good."

Traditional 2 Fly Rod,
August 2, 2009
By LoneAngler
from River Falls, Wisconsin
|
"I bought this rod at a great sale price and found it to be much nicer than expected. I needed a big 8 weight rod for northern pike and muskies and didn't want to spend a fortune. This rod casts very nicely and the case and rod bag are a bonus. The only thing I didn't like about the rod are the stripping guides are too large and cause some line slap while casting. The rod is light and has a nice feel for an economy rod."

Fishing Rod as gift,
July 30, 2009
By JEMCG
from California
|
"I bought this rod for my grandson, who is just getting into fly fishing.
I ordered a two piece-rod by mistake. I sent it back for a 4-piece rod exchange. The folks at Cabelas were terrific. They sent me a 4-piece rod in two days.....Great service.
My grandson loves his new equipment. If he could only catch a few more trout."

"Purchased as identical replacement for my son's rod that I broke. He is very happy with it. It's a little too lightweight for me. Couldn't beat the price for the rod, though. Exceptional turnaround time on the order, as usual. Had the rod in three days, standard shipping."
