Drag utilizes two cone-shaped parts for precise fit
Long-lasting, sealed drag system
Drag elements centralized for better responsiveness
Spring tension for ultrasmooth braking
Frame and spool Pressure cast and machine-finished
The Konic™ is a pressure cast reel with machined components that brings top quality and performance to anglers at an incredible price.
Equipped with the Waterworks zero-maintenance, fully machined, fully sealed conical drag the same drag
system that's used on Lamson reels costing $400 or more. Unlike other drag systems that use two flat surfaces for
braking control, Lamson's conical drag utilizes two cone-shaped elements that are matched together for a precise fit.
This system acts to completely seal the drag from the effects of moisture, salt and grit. When the drag is adjusted,
spring tension draws the two elements together, creating variable rates of ultrasmooth braking. Because the mass of
the drag elements is centralized, the reel is more responsive to lighter drag settings. The average radius of the contact
surface is also much smaller than a disc-shaped drag, eliminating start-up torque. Frame and spool are pressure cast and then
machine-finished. Available: Model 1.5, Model 2.0.

LIGHTSPEED OR KONIC?,September 28, 2009
By JayontheFly
"I was tempted to get the Lamson Lightspeed for about twice the price...really tempted...a friend said "factor in the hours you will spend on the water"...ok...another friend said "never spend more on the reel than the rod"...ok...and then I find out that the Konic has the same insides as the Lightspeed and the only difference is the Lightspeed is drilled out and it has a cosmic finish that is scratch resistant...I bought the Konic and I am totally happy with it...Matched it with a Sage Launch."

Konic,September 18, 2009
By Patrick62from Canada
"I have had great difficulty finding a reel with a drag I like that is durable. A friend recommended a Lamson reel. Not being aware of the company I bought the basic model. Turns out to be one of the best I have used. The drag and adjustment are exceptionally smooth. The reel works better than reels costing way more. Since I just got it I can't comment on durability, other than to say I have landed several chinooks with no problems."

Konic reels real nice,August 24, 2009
By Nineweightfrom Boston, MA.
"I have had my Lamson Konic reel about two weeks and been out with it four times. This is a nice reel. Very light, smooth, drag very sentive and looks like it belongs with my fly rod.
I have had other Lamsons' and I am impressed by the nice finish in a cast reel. Lamson did a very good job of manufacturing a solid reel for a very attractive price.
Design not only looks good but a reel that has substance as well. I'll enjoy this one for years"

Reel For The Times,June 29, 2009
By Artbackfrom Chicago area, Illinois
"Let's face it. Times are tough for a lot of folks yet the Lamson Konic 1.5 allows for a premium reel experience for a less dough than a premium reel. Lamson's sealed conical drag is second to none (IMHO) for smoothness and low maintenance, and the best part is that it's the same whether you buy the Konic or the upscale Litespeed. I own several Litespeeds and can't tell the difference between their drag mechanisms and that of the Konic.
I've paired mine with a TFO Professional Series 3 wt (7.5 foot) and couldn't be happier. It's the perfect budget combo for panfish and small stream trout fishing!
Perhaps the best part is that I won't feel as badly when I drop it on the pavement or lose it along with my luggage. Way to go Lamson!"

Reel,June 16, 2009
By infrequentbowhunter
"I was a little skeptical when purchasing this. This price seemed on the low side compared to Abel, Ross, etc so I was wondering if the quality would suffer. However, this is the best reel I own. Over the years, I have purchased a number of high end reels that cost 2-3 times more. This is completely sealed and no water or dirt can get inside. It picks up line quickly and has a great drag even for the big salmon and steelhead.
It is not as finely machined and crafted as some reels but it functions better than anything else I have ever used."

Buy It,April 7, 2009
By Mrgnj1from Menomonie, WI
"This reel is hands down the best reel out there for the money. Excellent drag, fairly light, and durable. Just a smooth piece of equipment. I could babble on and on, but I'll simply say buy it if you need an excellent piece of gear at a great price. Hard to find that these days. You won't be disappointed."

Konic 1.5,March 30, 2009
By golfgebfrom Pennsylvania
"Quite simpily put, this reel is the best reel for the money, no best reel for under $200.00 PERIOD. Lamson quality, same conical drag as the Force and Litespeed reels in a cast rather than machined package. Buy one, you can't go wrong on this reel. A+++++"

Great Value,March 27, 2009
By Wyocaddisfrom Sheridan Wyoming
"Recently purchased this reel after handling several other manufactures reels. I was very impressed with the overall fit of the reel. I have had the oppurtunity to use it twice now. Fishing medium streams for 14 to 20" rainbows and browns and am very impressed with the drag system. While the fish do not have long runs on the stream, they very much run very quick and hard for short distances. I was impressed most with the lack of slop in the startup of this drag system, very smooth for those quick hard runs. I am using 5x tippet on a 4 weight. the reel is the 1.5. and have yet to snap a light leader on a hard charging fish. I would recommend this reel to all as a great value."

Great reel!,March 18, 2009
By VolFan9183from Middle TN
"I've had this reel for almost a year and really like it. I have the Model 2 on a 6 wt TFO rod. It balances with this rod really well, and the drag is flawless. I wasn't sure about the finish before my purchase, but it's handled a year of abuse with almost no blemishes and matches the pewter finish on many of today's rods very well. I would not hesitate to buy this reel again."

Lots of Bang for Your Buck,December 30, 2008
By IRFISHERfrom Ohio
"I own the Konic 3.5. I purchased it for a trip to Purto Rico. At first I was a little skeptical of how good this reels drag would be but let me tell you first hand thats its great! I cought several large Bones, several Tarpon in the 15-20 pound range, a Cuda, and even a nice size Permit. The drag worked perfect and I never had to worry about sand or salt getting into it. This is a great reel that is well worth its price tag."

I'm hard on equiptment,December 26, 2008
By fr8slatefrom Louisville,KY
"I drug this reel around Alaska for 7 days.(3.5 model)In and out of drift boats, hiking through brush in and out of truck bed. Worked great.I bought this reel on the advise of a old hand' in the sport who price isn't a consideration. This drag system is the same as the $$$ reels. BTW the last day it slid off the truck seat on to asphalt-Ping! but only a minor nick-kept on working like new. Save a few bucks with this reel and put into the Rod."

Smooth reel but durability a huge problem,December 12, 2008
By bbbbbbbbfrom East coast trout fisherman who also bonefishes.
"The reel is a delight to fish with, but heaven help you if it ever falls or is dropped. It is the most fragile reel I've ever used or owned, which is saying something since I'm using the 3.5 model with 8 wt. line. Even my three weight reel is much sturdier.
I found this out the hard way. I'd rinsed the reel after saltwater fishing a couple of hours and put it on the rattan dresser in the lodge where I was staying to dry. Somehow, it slid off and dropped about 30 inches to the floor. The groove on the inside of the spool compressed when it hit the floor. It will probably do this unless it lands flat on its side; the side of the spool is very soft and may also bend.
Luckily, my multi-purpose tool had a blade that fit in the groove, and I was able to get the reel functioning normally. The spool's metal is so soft, however, that it will not survive many repairs like this. Also, it may not handle heavy use in boats.
I bought this reel because I'd used Lamson reels with steelhead guides last year and was impressed with their sturdiness and durability. Needless to say, I'm very disappointed.
I give the reel 5 stars for performance but 0 stars for sturdiness and durability."
