Good Rod, Good Line, Bad Reel,

"The reel has gaps between the guides and the spool. Loose line often slips through the gap and gets hung up on the guide, forcing you to spend the next few minutes fiddling with your line instead of fishing. It gets annoying pretty fast.
The rod and line are very nice, but I wouldn't buy the combo. The reel is abysmal with those gaps."

"I bought this rod for a fishing trip in PA. For an entry level rod it worked excellent. The balance was good, it was a little long for the stream I was fishing. It came ready to use and worked flawlessly. The rod had good action and the reel worked better than expected. My 13 year old son had never fly fished before. I took him to a lake and he was even able to cast and get the hang of it easily. I would definitely recommend this rod and reel package. Great price - Great product."

"I am very happy I orderd this on Wensday and it was here the next day,Big supprise. I have gone fishing with this (wind river fly-fishing rod & reel combo) several times and have had lots of fun. The rod loads great when I'm casting, and it's is very smooth on the cast. I have been fly fishing more that fifteen years now mostly for samon. I got this 5 weight rod for smaller fish.
I let my god son use it on the day it arrived and he has never fly fished before and was able to cast after a short time, I would say that this combo would be a good choice for beginers all the way up to the experts.

"Three Forks" reel experience,

"I just returned from an extensive fly-fishing trip to Montana, during which I used the product in question. Although the rod was fine, the reel was not. Specifically, either the 2 sections don't close completely, or the channel in the crosspiece catches the line, even with the closure nut screwed down tightly. Consequently, fly line gets caught between the handle side of the reel and the crosspiece. The only way to remedy this defect is to loosen the nut & pop the line back on the reel. Not doing so makes the reel inoperative. Needless to say, this was an infuriating inconvenience to do deal with mid-stream, worse with a fish on."

"went out a bought my first flyrod/reel ever...did online research and bought this combo in no 8 size. turned out too heavy for the river i went fishing too...so that was my bad. it tired out my hand pretty quickly...i guess i should got a no 4 or no 5. all in all its a good combo...but i hate the plastic on the reel....one of the sleeves that fits into the rod broke the first day after it fell accidentally. thank god for crazy glue and flyline"

"I bought this fly rod and reel combo to do some backwoods small stream fishing and it does the job and then some. The balance is excellent and the rod play is perfect for 10" brook trout. I started using it on the lakes for panfish and may not go back to my spinning reel."

"This is an amazing value for the beginner or for someone traveling and needs to have a back-up fly rod in case your old favorite breaks, which happens all the time!
I couldn't believe how well I was able to shoot line from the 5 weight rod. Where can you get a complete setup for under a $100.00 fly line will cost you at least $29.00. Anyway I had all my friends try the rod since I couldn't believe how well it cast. This rod easily beats some of the more expensive rods in the $200-400 range. Try it you won't be disappointed."
