"When you think about the price of good backing and good fly line today you have to to consider these Ross Flystart Reels. I purchased the Ross Flystart Model 1 over a year ago and have had no problems at all with this product. At this price its almost as if Ross is making you pay for the backing and flyline and giving you the reel for free. The synthetic drag on this reel is actually made of plastic but dont let this pursuade you into not buying this reel. When you do have a fish on the line and it makes it's run the drag kicks in and it's really loud. Spend your extra money on a quality rod!"

"This reel is great quality for a beginning reel. You get everything ready right out of the box (backing, fly line, leader). The only thing Ross didn't do is add a fly. I bought this for my Brother for X-mas who is new to ff. In addition, I paired it with a great new 6 wt rod from St. Croix. I figured I would spend the majority of my money on a good quality rod, instead of a high end reel for fishing Bows in the Sierras. He is very happy with the set up. Tight lines."

"I have used the my "FLY START" reel more than any other reel that I own. I own seven great reels of high & low end. The function of the "FLY START" reel is wonderful and the drag is true. I cought a 12lb.03oz. Rainbow Trout hen, at Rocky Ford Creek Grant Co. WA on this great value fly reel. Finally a reel that makes confidance easy to come by after the hookup. This reel is my flat out my first pick for the money.... PS. I used Sharkskin fly line on my six weight Ross "FLY START" reel when I cought that monster hen."

"Seriously - What a Great Deal! I have been an avid fly fisherman for greater than 10 years and have, at times, served as a guide and instructor. Hence, I have had the opportunity to use a very wide range of equipment with a huge price range. Recently, I purchased a little 3 weight rod for use on a small creek near my home - not wanting to spend an arm and a leg for a real I went with the Ross Flystart that was pre-spooled with line and backing. I really am glad I did. The line is decent and the real is great! Smooth as can be - so smooth that I took it apart to look at it in greater detail and compare it to one of my reals that cost 10x's as much. Anyway - if you are looking for a 3 to 4 weight reel - I highly recommend this one for when I go looking for another reel this will definately be one that I consider again. Tight Lines! SF"

"I bought the reel for my wife. Pre-spooling made it ease for her to just take it to our tanks, and start fishing. I have tried it, and have found the drag to work well on everything from some of the very large blue gills to bass in the 2-2.5 lb. range."

"This is a good reel spooled with good line at a great price. It was set up for left hand and I like mine set up for right hand. Changing this was a little dificult. The drag seams to be adaquit, although I have only made one trip with it for small spotted bass."

"I was looking for a small reel for my 3 wt.Nothing fancy just somthing functional.For the price it isn't bad and seems to get the job done.My only complaint is the drag system.It's a bit rough and I wish it could adjust just a bit lighter.I've never owned a ross reel but know they have a good reputation.This is why I gave it a try.If you want somthing basic and ready to go this prespooled reel may be for you.If you need a smoother drag spend a little more for somthing better."
