First Winter Boots,February 9, 2009
By Hobie09from Austin, TX
"These were the first ever winter boots for me. I grew up in SoCal and live in Texas now so not used to cold. Bought these for a trip to Anchorage, wore them all day in about +20 degree weather with a sock liner and normal cotton socks, no problems whatsoever. My feet stayed warm (and they get cold easily) and dry, never noticed a time where my toes got cold or anything even walking around in snow. Kind of slippery on ice but then what isn't? I noticed water beading up and off of these, they stayed pretty clean. Laces are a little on the thin side, would like to upgrade to a thicker lace eventually. Seems like a quality made boot and a great price."

Good warm boots,January 6, 2009
By BrierJohnfrom Brier (Seattle Area), WA
"Received as a gift for Christmas, but really I picked them out and forwarded a link to my beloved.
These look good and are warm enough for my climate. They fit well out of the box and are breaking in nicely. It remains to be seen if they will wear a long time as these are my first Cabelas purchase, but so far they are better than expected.
The only grip is that they are puffy on the top of the foot making my already big feet look enourmous. Padded tongue insulation is worth it, but these are puffier than most.
Overall a terrific value."

Great Shoes!,January 5, 2009
By sierragirlfrom Clear Creek, California
"I purchased these boots for my husband. He normally wears a size 12 -12 1/2 regular. I ordered the size 13 and they fit him perfectly. He says they are the most comfortable shoes he has ever had. He has used these boots while shoveling three feet deep snow in our walk way and large driveway. He was out there for hours in minus 5 degree weather bringing in wood, clearing snow, loading his truck with his tools and stomping around in the slippery driveway. We also took a walk till our faces and hands were too cold. But his feet still remained comfortale and warm. His feet stayed warm and dry the entire time he has been out in the snow and we have had thick wet snow. He loves these shoes and wears them a lot right now. They look good too. Thank you cabellas! I will be ordering his Summer hiking boots from here as well."

Review 7 for Cabela's Avalanche 400-Gram Winter Boots
"Nice looking with the features I like in a boot. With out calling the names of the insulation, water proof barrier and the outer sole material, I have nothing negative to say about the boot construction. Personally, I think the ankle is about an inch too high, and the boot is a touch heavy. A little stiff out of the box. But my feet have been warm and dry. Just getting into the wet season here."

FLIMSY SHOE LACES,December 3, 2008
By Coastie203from Boston, NY
"I recently purchased the Avalance boot, wearing them immediately with a minimal break-in period. Living in the snow belt and ski country south of Buffalo, NY we recently had a good measure of snow and I found the boots to be very comfortable, providing great traction over the ice and snow. I wear a 12.5 and bought a size 13, which I found to be a perfect fit.
The only issue I have with the boot is the flimsy shoe laces. They are too thin requiring a double knot to keep them tied, and still they managed to come undone, which is frustrating. Because the laces were thin, they also mishaped the leather when pulled tight. I exchanged the laces for a pair of thicker, newer ones from an old pair of hiking boots and found that to do the trick. The replacement laces are about twice the diameter as the ones that came with the Avalance boots and lay on the surface of the boot rather than depressing the leather. My recommendation is for Cabellas to use a more hearty shoe-lace.
Other than the lace issue, I love the boots."

Decent Boots So Far,March 10, 2008
By AllSeasonfrom PA
"Bought these to fill the need that occurs when uninsulated boots aren't warm enough, but yet I didn't want boots that would make me feel overheated when temperatures rise to the daytime highs in range of 50-70 degrees. So far so good with respect to broad range of workable temperatures (20-60 degrees). Comfort is also ok - no complaints with a decent amount of walking."

Very Pleased with Boots,February 20, 2008
By TFS2from KY
"I was looking for a good value in a winter boot for mid-duty hiking and general getting around in snow, and these fit the bill just fine. I went hiking around Mt. Lincoln in Colorado in January, and they proved to be very warm, comfortable, and entirely waterproof. My only negative observation is that the pictures of the black version of the boot on the web and in the catalog were a little off from the actual color. The uppers are more of a dark, blue-grey than black. Nevertheless, they are what I wanted, and I hope to get years of service from them."

Good boot but...,January 4, 2008
By Win94from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
"I recently purchased a pair of these boots. Having never purchased Cabela brand footwear before, I was a little cautious as footwear is something I don't skimp on. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised that the quality of these boots lived up the the Cabela's name...I was really impressed with the quality especially considering the price. Trying the boots on, they were very comfortable and very warm. Lacing the boots up I did notice that the gussets on the side of the tongue left an opening and didn't seal up tight. What I think the problem is is that the boot tongue isn't wide enough so the guessets are exposed, allowing snow/slush/rain to get it. I wanted these boots to replace a pair of Solomon winter boots. Comparing the boots, they seemed of equal quality but the tongue on my old boots was much wider and does a better job sealing out the snow. Needless to say I returned the boots and bought a pair of columbia Ice Dragons. If Cabela's had designed the tongue a little wider, I would be enjoying Cabela's Avalanche boot right now."
