The new Saros brings high-perfomance spinning-reel performance to the everyday angler. The Saros brings new
meaning to light tackle, but do not let its small size fool you. Utilizing the new
Paladin Gear Durability Enhancement and Propulsion Line Management System with the new spool lip design, durability,
reliability and performance are what you can expect from this reel. Testing has shown that this combination of metals
is more durable than an all-stainless steel drivetrain, while maintaining the smoothness that Shimano is famous for.
The
new spool lip design provides longer casting distances than a standard spool lip design, while preventing backlashes
and wind knots from forming. The SR One-Piece Bail Wire has a seamless design that reduces friction and eliminates
the
chance of tangles or cuts to the bail arm. The Power Roller III is specially grooved to reduce twist caused by repetitive
casting and retrieving and its large diameter assists in reducing friction and line memory. An S-Arm Cam serves to
keep
the line in contact with the line roller even in slack line fishing such as vertical jigging or drop-shotting. The SR-Concept combines the new concept of reliance with all aspects of the S-Concept: smooth, silent and strong. Also, the
drive gear is directly attached to the handle, which means power is transmitted more efficiently with less vibration while
increasing durability. The Spinning Super Stopper II anti-reverse uses a one-way roller bearing that eliminates
backplay. Add in shielded A-RB® bearings, a sealed maintenance port and you have a reel that will
stand the test of time.

Saros 3000,October 23, 2009
By RedfisherIIIfrom NC
"Well I purchased 3 reels specifically for Redfish fishing. These reels were the Penn Af3000, Pflueger Supreme, and the Shimano Saros 3000F. I only use Power Pro on my fishing reels. I use either 30lb or 20lb test. The Penn reel didn't handle the braid very well. This particular reel kept getting wind knots and as well would wrap the line around the spool when reeling in slack line. The Pflueger Supreme starting making noise as soon as I put it under heavy stress landing a 35 inch Redfish. The Shimano casted great with very little wind knots and never wrapped the braid around the spool. I spooled each of the reels the same way each time. I think this is in part to the built in adjustability of the Shimano Reels. They come with washers to adjust how the line wraps on the spool which is really a great feature. The only place I feel the Shimano was not quite as good was the drag. The drag on the Penn reel felt a bit more solid and smooth landing a big fish that put up big runs of line, but this was a very slight difference between the reels. I would high recommend the Shimano Saros 3000f. As a backup I would chose the Penn AF 3000 as long as I wasn't using Braid. I have a buddy who is a Penn advocate and he said the same thing. The Penn is a great reel for Mono, but its just not Braid ready as its advertised. I hope this helps anyone trying to make a decision, Tight Lines!"

Nice mid-priced reel; would buy again,July 13, 2009
By RMillsfrom Buffalo National River, Arkansas
"My brother (a smallmouth guide) and I have long been fans of Shimano reels. This one replaced a 15-yr old Shimano Aero Sidestab that is still working, but is now the backup reel. While I have only used my new Saros reel a few times, I can already tell that it's a smooth operator who is going to live up to its Shimano heritage."

Good Real,May 27, 2009
By tnashfrom Nixa, Missouri
"I bought two of these reels a few weeks ago to put on a couple Fenwick GT rods for crappie fishing. So far I like them. I had to clean them up and add some better oil, but after that I was impressed.....very smooth. Not as good as Shimano Sustain model but at half the cost they were a great buy. Nothing beats a Shimano."

smooth as smooth can be,January 28, 2009
By Moe123from Middletown, DE
"shimano has done it again. this reel is super smooth and mighty powerfull. have the 2500 w/ 15# power pro paired with a 7' premier and i am thrilled with the preformance. ordered one online and the reel was defective (hard to spin the handle, everything felt "tight"), but again Cabelas customer service team was awesome and replaced it "no questions asked" for a new one. they explained to me that a batch went out "over-filled" with fluid/oil. no problems with the new one, a superb reel at a superb price. i bought the saros because the stratic was upgraded to the FI, and got a little out of my price range, but i couldnt ask for more as a "replacement". thanks shimano.....but more importantly, THANK YOU CABELAS!!"

Shimano Saros 3000,January 3, 2009
By BRagefrom Eugene, OR
"I just purchased a Saros 3000 from Cabela's and it is by far the best spinning reel I own. I own many other Shimano reels, which I don't have any complaints about, but Shimano didn't previously offer a size between the 2500 and the 4000. The new 3000 is perfect for steelhead fishing using 8 to 10 pound line. This reel is very smooth and looks great."

Soros 2500F,September 24, 2008
By EagleBobfrom Toms River, NJ
"I must say I am totally surprized. I have been purchasing reels with 9 and 10 bearings but less expensive. Even though the Soros has less bearings, it didn't make any difference in it's performance. It runs circles around the other reels. It is super smooth. After using it with an 8# mono for 5 to 10 trips to the water, I couldn't be any happier. It is truly worth it's price which is still very reasonable. Next reel...... another Soros!"

Reality Check,August 27, 2008
By woodman3318from East Tennessee
"Shimano makes the best reels for the money, period. I own nine Shimano spinning reels; a combo of Sahara, Symetre, Stradic, the new saltwater Socorro and latest Saros reels. The clerk sold me on the Saros vs Stradic (4000) since I don't use braided line...he said they were about the same reel. The reality is they are very different!! I am returning my Saros for another Stradic.
1) The Saros vs Stradic is bigger/bulkier and much heavier. 2) The Saros angle on the rod seat causes the bail to hit my knuckles. No problems with any other of my Shimanos here. 3) The Stradic is much smoother all around than the Saros.
Basically the Stradic is a Porsche and the Saros is an SUV. For the little difference in price, the Stradic is by far the choice.
Fish on!"

Shimano Saros Spinning reel,July 8, 2008
By mrbruce
"Due to rellocation of new country, I had to leave my Fishing gear collection back home. I have mostly used Mitchell spinning reels over the years, which have given good service. When I first used the New Shimano shipped to me here in Thailand from Cabela's in very short time I might add, I could hardly believe the performance, Matched to a 5' 6" lightweight spinning rod from Daiwa, and using Cabella's braided ripstop line, this combination proved to be excellent on fish between 1 to 2 lb. I would recommend this Shimano Saros to anyone wanting a smooth, quality, inexpensive spinning reel. Tip" I found I had to slow down the retieve using small lures. The reel action is so smooth is easy to go to fast."

SHIMANO REEL,June 9, 2008
By SECONDCHCfrom WAREHAM, MA
"EXCELLENT REEL FOR THE PRICE. I HAVE BEEN BUYING CABELA'S SALT STRIKER REELS FOR A THIRD THE PRICE, BUT MY MAIN FISHING HAS BEEN INSHORE USING BRAIDED LINE FOR STRIPED BASS AND BLUE FISH, AFTER ABOUT SEVERAL HUNDRED FISH UP TO 15 LBS ON THE CABELA REEL THE DRAG SYSTEM WAS JUST PLAIN BURNT OUT. (I HAVE NO COMPAINTS WITH THE CABELA REEL IT'S NOT BUILT FOR SUCH ABUSE.) THE SHIMANO SAROS HAS SUPERIOR DRAG AND I HOPE TO HAVE IT LAST YEARS WITH NORMAL MAINT. I FISH 3 TO 4 DAYS A WEEK FROM MAY TO OCT."

Saros performs as advertised,May 22, 2008
By Laniusfrom Central Iowa
"I bought a Saros reel because I was having significant problems with line twist. I have used the reel on several occasions and have been pleasantly surprised that the reel works as advertised. I have experienced little or no line twist and seem to be able to cast further. It was nice to see that product performace was not exaggerated in the catalog and that added features actually worked."
