good for ranges under 250yd,December 26, 2008
By baywingdbfrom Pacific NW
"Good optics, and I had no problems with the controls or setup. The main drawback is that I couldn't get reliable ranging on deer/pronghorn-sized game at ranges over about 250 yards, which isn't too useful for rifle hunting here in the west. It will range to 400 yards (or even a bit more) on large, highly reflective targets (road signs, metal barns), but that doesn't help in most hunting situations."

buyer beware,December 17, 2008

"I just bought this rangefinder 3 days ago, now I will return it, probably for Nikon. The trigger pull is stiff,The instructions are vague, can't figure out how to cycle through the reticles. I really like Leupold products, however this one falls short."

great product and customer service!!!,November 29, 2008
By ruger4141from Toms Brook, VA
"I purchased this about 2 years ago. It did everything I wanted it to. Easy to use and well built. It ran out of its 1 year warrany and started rangeing off about 5 yards. I called Leupold and told them my problem. They told me to send it back. They then called me less than a week later and said they were going to send me a brand new one for free. They even let me get the RX-II for the price difference from a I to a II. That is why you buy Leupold!!!!"

Nice Product,September 4, 2008
By wayne155from Pewamo, Mi
"I was reluctant to buy this rangefinder after reading the poor reviews that it recieved. However, I have several Leupold products and trusted the name of the product. After recieving the rangefinder, I could not be happier. The problems that other people cited in their reviews have not been a problem for me"

Rangefinder for bowhunters,August 25, 2008
By wetaufrom Norway
"I am a bowhunter and will not come into a situation where I need to measure more than about 60 yards. At this range, the rangefinder is very good. I have tried it in the forest and on fields, in different lighting situations, and am very satisfied with it. I recommend it to any bowhunter. I have not tried it on longer distances (rifle shooting etc.)."

Good Value,November 23, 2007
By BHanfrom Columbus, OH
"I have had great luck with my RX-I Rangefinder. It is very functional and works well in bad weather. For the money, it is an excellent rangefinder. The only criticism I have is that it fits very tightly in the case and can be difficult to access in high pressure situations."

dissapointing rangefinder,November 21, 2007
By Banker54from South Dakota
"I purchased the entry level RX1 because I wanted to know the range of objects and quite simply nothing else (elevation, temp. etc.) I have had the Leupold for about a year now and am displeased with the product. I can't hit a deer at 200 yards with this finder and if I hit something at 400yds plus it has to be about the size of a house. I am going to attempt to trade this model for something that works, probably a Nikkon. I do not recommend this product."

Leupold RX-I,April 4, 2007
By brassman114from Northville, MI
"My background is photography and I am very sensitive to optical quality. I shoot 35mm, medium format, and large format (8" x 10" FILM, NOT photos). Bearing this in mind, I have never bought, nor would consider buying a Leupold scope as their optics are no better than Burris, Pentax and Nikon mid-range scopes and inferior to their premium offerings. I am also a computer geek and appreciate products that work and work accurately.
After having compaired most of the Bushnell, Nikon, Leupold and Leica models available, I settled on the Leupold RX-I. Optically it was very near Leica in terms of brightness and overall sharpness and was superior to all the Nikon and Bushnell products. In the store, it was consistant with the Nikon and Leica rangefinders for distance readings and was as quick to aquire the range. It also included a scan mode (which I don't think can be turned off) only present on the more expensive Bushnells and Nikons.
My use of the unit outdoors has been limited but I have been able to range buildings and cars in excess of 620 yards and a dark colored horse at 362 yards (reading on it's head only). It has no trouble ranging on people wearing medium to dark clothing if they aren't moving in excess of 200 yards.
While I am sure there are better rangefinders to be had, it is my belief you would need to spend a great deal more to see significant improvements over this unit."

leupold rx,January 22, 2007
By vabuckhunterfrom virginia
"i must say that i was very disapointed to have to tell my wife how much i disliked the christmas present she got me. i have wanted a new range finder for quite a while and to see that i got a leupold made me very excited...until i tried it. i could not even get it to give a range at short distances. the user's manuel was another disapointment as well. they spend so much time on the many other options i think that the manufacturer forgot why we really wanted it in the first place. i think that leupold is making cheap products with a stress on selling more units instead of backing up their reputation for quality like they used to. i can't wait to get the new bushnell i swapped it out for!!!!!! go with what you know, good luck to all next year!"

Not what I thought,January 15, 2007
By onesrfrom Tolley, ND
"I bought the Leupold RX-1 because it was cheaper than the nikon 600, I wish I would have spent the extra money. It is very hard to hold on your object when you push the button, I hate switching from <150 to >150. I thought I would use it alot more than I did, for bowhunting it will not read through the shoot through mesh on my double bull blind, and for rifle season it was to time consuming to check yardage because the deer could be gone before I went around the menu to get it changed from <150 to >150. I have never got it to range a deer past 300 yards and they told me it would go 500 with out a problem."

Leupold RX I Rangefinder,December 29, 2006
By draymo
"The RXI is an adequate rangefinder for Bowhunters or rifle hunters not needing to range game outside of 250 yds. According to the specs the RXI can range deer up to 500 yds away. After dozens of attempts, I was able to range one deer at 308 yds. Most deer could not be ranged at over 200 yds from a box stand on a flat clear cut. I attempted to range a box stand I know to be 400 yards away with no success. The scan mode is nice and works well inside of 150 yds. Changing modes from >150 to <150 is annoying. The optics are great but I found the pressure it takes to hold the button down did not allow me to hold the rangefinder steady for long periods without a rest. The temperature feature will give you an accurate ambient temperature reading as long as you are not holding it too long. The temperature reading is immediately affected by your body heat. Over all I was disappointed in the performance due to its lack of ability to range consistently, if at all, over 200 yds."

Leupold RX-1 Rangefinder,November 29, 2006
By DFurtfrom Nevada
"I purchased this rangefinder prior to a Nevada antelope hunt in August 2006. After using it extensively over a period of two weeks, I become intimately familiar with its pros and cons. One of the good things about this rangefinder is that it is a Leupold and as a result it provides a clear view. I had problems though ranging past 300 yards. I think one of the reasons for this is the one handed design. It was very difficult to hold this rangefinder steady on an antelope past 300 yards and this I believe was the cause of the problem. If you cannot hold it very steady, this unit will not provide a range. Overall, I would recommend this item to a sportsman who is hunting in close cover or in forested areas where long ranging beyond 300 yards is not required."
