The etrex Vista HCx displays detailed maps and navigational information on a transflective, TFT, 1.3"W x 4.2"H, 256-
color, high-resolution, backlit display. Features exclusive to the Vista HCx include an electronic compass that
displays heading when standing still, a barometric altimeter with automatic pressure trend recording and an elevation
computer. The unit has a large-number option for easy viewing.
A high-sensitivity WAAS-enabled, 12-parallel-channel receiver is equipped with a built-in patch antenna to provide
quick, reliable and up-to-the-second information. The waterproof
unit comes equipped with built-in Americas autoroute basemap and is fully compatible with MapSource products,
giving you the most up-to-date detailed maps of your location available with just the push of a button. The Vista
HCx also has a trip computer and is capable of storing 500 user waypoints with 20 reversible routes. A 10,000-point
automatic track log has 20 saved tracks with 500 waypoints each. Audible alarms are provided for anchor drag,
arrival, off-course and clock. The Vista rounds off its feature list with built-in celestial tables and a micro SD card
slot for expanded memory capability (SD card not included). Two AA batteries (not included) provide up to 32 hours
of use. Includes USB interface cable,

"This is a great GPS. It locks on very fast and stays locked on, my pocket, my car, on my snowmobile. The track feature is very handy. I used it to map snowmobile trails last winter. The GPS stayed locked on at 60 MPH. in the woods. This summer I mapped ATV trails in the heavy woods with high mountains. It worked great last year in the deer hunting. The map CD is a little hard to use on my PC. It could be a lot more user friendly. You can do a lot more with the unit than the book explains. Just try things and you will get the hang of it. I used heavy duty rechargeable battery's and they lasted all day, a real plus! The display is very clear even is the sun."

"This is a fantastic GPS. I have long been a Magellan user, but found the eTrex Vista HCX to be a very lightweight and user friendly tool. The only recomendation I would make would be to purchase the plug & play street maps.....now you have a GPS that can go anywhere and do everything."

"This is my third Etrex, each one being more memory and features, so getting it set up and starting to use it was pretty easy. Even the first Etrex allowed me to hunt big Wisconsin woods safely, confident to hunt where as I wanted, because I always know where i am. Buying the bundle with topo maps means you can easily download topos for the areas you hunt, so when you hunt you can relate your position to topo features. Color is nice, locks on almost immediately and stays locked under tree canopies is more important, chip allows loading whole state topo with plenty of memory to spare, and even more features. Downsides are that the screen is hard to read in some lights, owners manual is basic, with no answers to more complex questions. I also have some concern because my first two Etrex's began to black out after 2-3 years, and I found that if you spend $$ to fix them they are still old models that go a year or less and they begin to black out again, so you wish you would have spent the money on newer technology. Notice that even so, this is my third Etrex because they are compact, pretty easy to use, and mostly dependable."

"This is my 3rd eTrex. The HCX is by far the best of the best and you have countless ways to custumize your unit. I have mine set so that I can take care of all of my needs with one hand. The HCX is perfect in the deepest woods, and I do like the electronic compass. On an aside, I had some trouble with my new unit and it was replaced by Garmin within days. The turnaround time was awesome; I will continue to buy Garmin products based on service alone! Do yourself a favor and buy the bundle - the extras are really slick and make for better tracking."

"The instructions are not complete and don't give enough information. Only the basic functions are explained, so you have to take it from there and figure out how to use it. My unit locks up at least once, every time I use it, especially when navigating through functions or entering waypoint titles. The topo software doesn't have enough detail to use for hunting and the screen is too small for studying the terrain."

"This is a great product! I have an older Garmin that I love but it is more suitable for my car in its cradle. The battery life on the Vista HCX is excellent, even when you keep the screen on all the time as I do when I am bike riding. It is easy to learn to use it. Buying the GPS Bundle is a good savings.
Can't wait to use it this fall for hunting!"

"My wife and I purchased this unit just before vacation. It was easy to use and a definite addition to our vacation in the Upper Penisula of Michigan. We met people who told us about geocaching and had a great time. The trails on the topo 2008 were all there and allowed use to take my 79 Jeep on all of the two trackers without a problem. The unit acquired satellites quickly and was very accurate."

"I love the Vista HCx! I've very briefly played with the more expensive 76 CSx and at a glance this unit seems to have most everything of the more expensive and larger unit. The screen is easily read even with the smaller screen compared to the 76. The software bundle is a cost effective way to get the software with it since some sort of software is almost required if you want to see more than the current line you are producing while moving. The Topo maps aren't super detailed when it comes to grade changes but it also includes a lot more streets and info than the base map. You won't be dissappointed if you buy this unit! I'd say it's the best they've got for the features/size/price. I wouldn't get any other unit after having the Vista HCx."

"Previous owner of 3 vista's. All were good products. The HCX, however, is far better. I can download far more map information than with my vista c. The color is sharper. The satellite acquisition is faster and far better in a dense woods canopy. It is an excellent product."

"I've had numerous garmin units and the etrex hcx is just a step above. I love short time it takes to get satellites. Being color helps also compared to my older vista. Tracking in dense cover is great. I like the battery life compared to other garmin products. Mapsource dvd is a great feature. Where I hunt I need the lightest, toughest, and most of all track in all different types of cover. All in all a great product."
