    Great investment, November 18, 2009
By Goosereaper1 from Los Banos, California

"There is nothing like a first hand look. I hunted with a friend of mine whom had this same product. He told me that I should get one for my dog. I took into account all of the bad reviews, and I'm not sure what some of them are referring to that this product is "rickety"? I set up the board and put my dog on it without any problems, what so ever. My only complaint is that the price is a little high."

"my grandfather and i bought this last year and i dont know if we got a bad one after all the other reviews that say how sturdy it is but ours shakes so much the dog cant find his balance, hes more worried about falling off than retrieving"

Slippery When Wet, January 2, 2009
    By gk08 from Dallas, TX

"The stand is light (packs well) but is sturdy. I like the ability to adjust to many different heights.

The only problem is the nylon fabric on the top gets very slick when wet/muddy. The dog can slide off the top when he jumps up. A hydroturf surface would have been a better choice.

Perfect Dog Stand, December 15, 2008
    By TwoBlackDogs from Texarkana, TX

"I also have an Avery Walk-In stand that is great if you have a tree to attatch it to, but if you hunt a marsh or lake with button willows the Walk-In will not work.

I purchased the Ruff Dog Stand and it works perfectly it is stable, easy to carry in, and set up is easy. The platform is large enough for "Boone" to be comfortable no matter how long we hunt or how deep the wading water. A great product for the retriever. The stand also makes a good cleaning station when you finish the hunt.

Nice looking stand, November 18, 2008
By Spooniekiller from San Jose, CA

"Its a great stand, I get a lot of compliments on it. The dog seems to do well on it. The only problems I have are putting the pins in to hold the legs in place are a pain. I would definantely get one if your dog has to stand in the water."

Good, Reliable Stand for my Dog, October 14, 2008
By UpstateNYsportsman from Upstate, New York

"This is a very sturdy and reliable stand for marshy, muddy areas. My dog took some time getting used to it, but once on it he has no problem sitting still and jumping off. I wish it were a bit larger so that he could lay down. He's a 100 pound Lab and all he can do is sit. But, for wet, cold hunting ground, this is perfect."

Not bad, but could use some improvements, September 23, 2008
    By bluebill25 from AK

"For what you get, it sure is pricey. Would be a lot better if it were more adjustable and had a nonslip cover, it also doesnt mesh with the Avery dog blinds. I'm keeping it, but would love to see something better made!"

Great for Training and Hunting, August 22, 2008
    By ALDuckSlamma from Auburn, AL

"I read past reviews of this product prior to purchasing one myself and I have to say that I disagree with anyone who is dissappointed with their RUFF stand. It has proved to me to be worth it's weight in gold. The RUFF stand is easy to carry or shoulder for walk-in hunts and training. I'd say that it is very manageable to be able to carry a backpack style decoy bag full of duck decoys, a shotgun, the RUFF stand and a MOJO all while handling a dog on a walk-in hunt.

The stand is sturdy and is very simple to set up. The machining for the holes in the aluminum is just fine and the holes and pins line up as they should. This product is also perfect for helping steady your retriever both on dry land and in the water.

If you are a serious freelance hunter and have your own retreiver, I would highly recommend this product.

Not made for bigger dogs, July 21, 2008
    By BBBirds from Chicago, IL

"Got a 95# Chessie. Been using the platform for about a month. It's usable. But, I can see, based on its construction, this platform will not likely last long. The fit of retaining pins to holes is sloppy, leading to a shaky platform that I have to steady for the dog to feel comfortable. I recommend Avery lose the foldable leg feature, thereby increasing stabiblity. Also, replace the aluminum legs with 3/4" EMT conduit, also with an eye toward increased stability."

    RUff/Mash stand, January 7, 2008
    By Abbythelab from Duckbandit, CA

"This has been a great stand. There are not many like it. This one you can drill out your own holes to make it just right for the amount of water you are hunting in. Like any product for your pup, pratice first. It keeps my lab in her place, out of the water/mud. Up high when in the trees and she sits under it in the fields when its raining. It can be dressed up for extra cover and I have stood on it to give hand signals. It supports 200lbs with no problem. I dont mind the wieght of it at 14lbs or so. Its worth the money. Buy right, buy once."

Unstable, Slick Surface, Cumbersome Pins for Legs, January 4, 2008
    By MoDucks from Missouri

"I hunt (wade & shoot) the marshes in Missouri and a stand like this can be very helpful, but considering the price - I expected more. First of all, the platform was pretty unstable and slick which made my dog a little shaky when I was training him to use it. However, once he got used to it, he seemed ok with it in the field. The pins to lock in and extend the legs were very cumbersome - especially in very cold weather because you cannot do it with gloves on. Like a previous reviewer mentioned, the holes don't line up well which make it time-consuming and a real pain to get it set up. On the plus side, it is lightweight and there is a real need for the product when hunting wade & shoot in a marsh."

Ruff Dog Marsh Stand, November 17, 2007
    By Curleytail

"The stand is the only one I found that helps keep the dog out of standing water in a marsh. During long periods of time a dog shakes and shivers it can't be good for them. This stand works as advertised. The pins to adjust the legs up and down are horrible and very unproffesonally drilled. Some holes are oblong and drilled crooked which makes inserting and removing the pins a pain. It is heavy duty and with some care it should last for many years. The dog keeps warmer being out of the cold water and mud. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to keep their dog out of the water in a marsh."

    Dog Stand, November 12, 2007
    By disapointed1

"My dog Tater is an 80 lb lab and he loves his dog stand. Tater and I hunt the refuges in California that have water depths from half a foot to three feet deep. The stand is stable and stays put even when he jumps from the stand for a retrieve. The adjustments are easy to make, however, some of the push pin holes needed to be reamed to fully engage. The product works well and does what they say, the only draw back is on the price. If it was half the cost I would have given it five stars.
None the less Tater gives it a paws up rating.

By CattailHunter from Fort Smith AR

"I duck hunt where the ducks are so I find myself in cattail
and one and a half foot of cold water. The Avery Ruff Dog Marsh Stand is a way to keep my dog out of the water and elevated where she can also get a good look at the playing field.

should have been a better designed pinning feature, November 5, 2007
By DuckhunterBLI from Yorba Linda, CA

"The pinning holes become oversized quickly, making the table unstable... I have had to bond on close tolerance washers to prevent the pins from backing out."

    Marsh Hunting, October 30, 2007
    By clayshootr from Ohio

"I just received my new Ruff Stand, waiting some time for the back order to finally be completed (2 month wait). I find the unit very useful for easy walk in conditions to areas that do not have any dry ground for a dog to get up and out of the water. Once set up the unit is stable for my dog, yet it can tip if not level or the dog ventures too close to the edge. The shoulder strap is useful, for the unit is durable and designed/built well for the conditions it sees. The pins are cable tied to the legs to prevent loss, I find this feature very smart! Takes about 2 minutes to set up or adjust height level. The top is well fastened to the painted frame, yet puts off a reflection. For the money, it is a little high $ for my wallet, but I have found no cheaper substitute. I would recommend."
