San Disk topo card,May 14, 2009

"I purchased the Upper East Coast card for my GPS and found the mapping in my area around Lake Placid, NY was not accurate. It had roads where there shouldn't be and no roads or trails where there should be. My friend had the CD verison and his was very accurate. Although both are by Garmin the San Disk is terrible. I called Cabales and they sent me a second San Disk but it was the same as the first. I have since purchased a 2 Gig micro disk and down loaded topo maps from his CD and Cabelas has given me a refund for the San Disk. They should all be sent back to Garmin. The GPS and costumer service at Cabelas are GREAT!"

"What a snap to use! No more downloading from the computer! Take off the batery compartment cover, take out the batteries, and swithc the chips around, replace the batteries and cover and you are good to go! And it's fun to use, too! Truly amazing technology!"

"Really easy to use. Shows good levels of details. I gave it a 4 rating only because I wish it had 1:24,000 maping detail as opposed to 1:100,000. Garmin is supposed to improve that over the next couple of years. Other than that it shows many trials and roads that you wouldn't expect to be there."

"This item is a must for the Garmin 60 model gps'. I had the Garmin before the topo map was received and while riding down the lake to my hunting area, it had me traveling across land when I was on water. The upgrade to the topo map gave great detail to the lake that I hunt around. With out it, the land masses are just blobs. With it, they have great detail. You basically are not able to use the Garmin with out this upgrade."

"I purchased this card to fill the need for paper topo maps while in the field and on hunting trips. It performed that task adequately. However, the topographic depiction of areas of variable terrain was a bit lacking. The unit would show a uniformed slope, and there would be a draw or small stream running through the terrain that was not portrayed. It also appeared to be slightly off when driving along the highway. Many secondary roads were not portrayed and my position seemed to be consistently off in relation to road intersections although the unit said I was only 10-30 feet off my actual position. Overall, it is great for general depicting of the terrain in the area. I used to be a topographic map compiler, and was probably expecting more than most of these units can provide. I’d still buy it again. It doesn’t knock it out of the park, but certainly is a ground rule double."

"The topo map for the western states has proved fairly accurate. However, the level of detail including trails & water features was less than I would have liked. Several places in the Colorado Rockies I would use in conjunction with paper maps to feel comfortable with my navigation."

"I used the Garmin topo card with my Garmin 60Cx to scout a Virginia Wildlife Management Area. The card has the entire WMA highlighted in green, a feature which I was not expecting, but which I found most useful. I found this, combined with Google maps to be an excellent combination to conduct map scouting and route planning."

"I purchased this to use as an add on to the Garmin Nuvi. It is accurate to within maybe 20' and it accurately shows topographical features of the terrain. It also shows some woods roads and trails but not all. I was surprised that it does not show the Appalachian Trail. It will show you your location when hiking but you will need a different source to show most hiking trails."

"Topo 2008 is clearly marked as a product made in 2007 ! Appears to be functioning well though for Oregon. Lacks lake and road detail for accurate navigation of those arenas. Guess I'll have to buy two more programs to meet that need. Dissapointed in Garmin for not meeting the needs of it's customers with a more inclusive mapping porgram for outdoorsman who also fish and drive."
