"Install took awhile, but was pretty straight forward. Everything needed was included (except mount) I have not installed the external switch but might in the future. I have used the winch on several occasions to recover other quads that slid into gullies or snow filled ditches. It works great, seems to have plenty of power and adequate speed. No problems with install or use."

"This was my first install of a winch. Although I put a lot of thought into where the componets needed to be mounted on my King Quad 4x4. The install went well. The instructions were written well and easy to follow. You just cant beat color coding. I have not put the winch through its paces yet. I have checked the basic operations . It works great. I will be hunting this season in both Bow and Rifle seasons. I hope to test the winch for its intended purpose on my King Quad during that time. I am also planning on using the winch as the lifting device for my snow plow."

"Some cutting of the frame and plastic shroud was required. The novice would have a problem. I own a power equipment company so all the tools needed were at hand. Plan on 5 to 6 hours for instillation. Bill"

"So far, this wench has operated as advertised. I had to retreive a couple of bridges that washed downstream after a heavy rain and it pulled them back up w/o any problem. They were heavy bridges and probably weighed 1K each."

"I bought a trail tamer 2500 by superwinch for my yamaha grizzly 700FI with eps and installed it myself and it works great. It easily pulls this quad out of anything i have encountered to date. I purchased it in the middle of july and since then i have added synthetic rope to it and the addition makes the team olmost unstopable this winch has great power."

"Although the online catelogue indicates a 4000 # Trail Tamer winch is available, this is a mistake; it is no longer available. The printed catelogue correctly shows a 3000# winch as the highest capacity available from Superwinch for UTVs. I mounted the Trail Tamer 3000 on a Polaris Ranger Crew Browning, weighs approx 1400#s. A good guide for winch capacity is 2Xs the weight of the vehicle, so the 3000 should be adequate for this UTV. One word of advice: The easiest mounting of the winch is accomplished by removing the front bumper (only 5 bolts to remove), which allows easy access for bolting on the winch mounting kit, versus the installation instructions."

"I have used this Winch a few times so far. It works great. At first I just wondered about the cable winding. If it would wind evenly. Because it has no guide next to the cable where the cable is wound. But it seems to work okay without the cable being wound in one side. This is why I rated it four stars. It is kinda hard to install. The wires are thick. But then this just is because it is heavy duty. Very nice winch. One of of the parts to where some of the wires connect to are very flimzy. Must be carefull or maybe the whole winch will break down or burn out."

Cabela's 4000 Trail ATV Winch,October 22, 2008

"I am a fairly good shade tree mechanic and this one really tested my abilities. Nothing in the installation process went easily or intuitively. The instruction manual was necessarily general but, in my case with a 2001 Honda Rancher, one size does not fit all. Locating a spot for the controller was challenging and I ended up bolting it to the inside of a 4"x4"x4" covered plastic box which I then mounted to the frame in front of the rear shock. Finding a switched hot wire had me wondering until I went to a Honda mechanic to show me where to hook up the switch wire. The fairlead should not be bolted onto the bracket until after the bracket is mounted onto the ATV frame (a silly 1/4" too long can bring out some very colorful words). After many hours over about a week's time of puzzling it together the final result is a very clean looking installation. It seems to work as advertised and I look forward to field testing it soon. The ATV mount kit which you need to buy separately is essential and I would not recommend trying to mount this winch without the kit."

"I bought this winch for my 2008 Yamaha Grizzly 450 and tried to install this myself. I had no problem with the actual mounting of the winch but ran into trouble with the wiring. The instructions supplied were straight foward but Yamaha changed the configuration of how the wiring should be run for 2008. I wound up bringing the ATV back to the dealership to let them deal with the final wiring (they even commented that they had a little trouble). They had to trim some of the body molding under the seat to make the wires fit. Overall the winch works great and and is another fine product sold by Cabela's!"

"i never even got to use it and the cogs broke of the inside of the engauge and disengauge knob. it has three little cogs that are made of pot metal. i haven't had a chance to test the rest of its operation as it sits on the front of my atv inoperatable."
