    Great GPS, September 17, 2009
By jdhunter101 from Southern New Jersey

"This gps is awsome. I was useing it yesterday for scouting out new spots for deer season and some of the spots i was a mile away from my truck and the unit brought me right back to my truck. it is great for marking where your tree stands are and it will take you right to them within 4 feet of them"

Great for the money, August 11, 2009
    By hct236

"This is a great little GPS unit, it is perfect for the hunter who only wants to get from the truck to the stand and back again. It doesnt have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive units. It is easy to setup and use, directions are clear and it does a great job. It usually gets me within 10 feet of where im going. No more tying ribbon or putting a bottle on a branch to mark an entry spot to the woods. When you find a spot just mark it on the unit and it will take you right back to that same spot later. This thing really helped last year when it feel dark and my flashlight died. All I had was a little keychain light that's only bright enough to light up right at my feet. In the woods after dark and this little GPS got me right back to the truck. Well worth the price."

Good Beginner GPS, July 30, 2009
    By 99Flyboy from Arkadelphia, Arkansas

"This is a good beginner GPS. It lacks some features of the higher priced models that you may find useful. But, has many features for navigating, tracking, and orienteering. It could be more intuitive and easier to use. But, one gets what one pays for. This is a solid, functional introduction to GPS's."

    Etrex H, July 20, 2009
By kermith from Madsionvile, LA, travel USA & Canada

"Manual did not discuss entering map coordinates.
On one short circular trail, the loop did not close.
Sometimes, I could not find a scale to show the beginning of a loop on the return half.
Manual mentioned a cable to connect to my PC, but it was not in the box, and the website was unclear on which cable I need.
    Overall instructions were pretty good.
Was able to use the Backtrack feature, which is probably the most important one.
It is relatively easy to use.
Every time I clear and reset, the elapsed time counter starts running.

Good, but not Great, July 20, 2009
    By Fishermanover65 from Fresno, CA

"PROS: Lightweight, colorful (easy to find), somewhat waterproof, inexpensive, reasonably easy to use and quite fast in obtaining location. The buttons are easy to use and the menues are relatively few and easy to follow. It also has built in SOL-LUNAR tables for fishing as well as the phases of the moon. All buttons are on the side, rather than on the front.
CONS: When you mark a waypoint, you have to stop your traveling and complete the task at that time if you want to give your waypoint a name (other than an assigned number). This can take 60 seconds or longer. The battery life is questionable. Cabela's lists it as "up to 22 hours" and on the Garmin website says "up to 17 hours" on a set of batteries ( 2-AA alkaline). My first set of batteries lasted only 2 hours after which the unit would not boot up. The second set has about 4 hours on them now and the indicator says they are half worn down. The only real power source is from these AA batteries as the adaptor which sells for about $50 also includes a computer connection. Without seeing it, I can't tell if the cigarette lighter adaptor on a boat or car will work. That being the case, you need to always cary spare batteries if you are going to rely on the unit for directions. If you want to check the SOL-LUNAR tables, you can only do for the current day. Therefore, if you want to see what times will be best for fishing tomorrow, you have to check it after midnight tonight.

Simply the best because it's simple, July 8, 2009
    By oldherman from Kenai, Alaska

"The Garmin Etrex H does everything anyone could expect from a handheld gps unit and sometimes even more and better than units costing 5 and 6 times as much. The real key to gps usage and the quality and accuracy of your experience with it, is in understanding how gps works and hence its limitations and its abilities and its versatility. I want a gps unit to be versatile enough to use it from the tundra of Alaska North Slope to the deepest jungle of the Amazon, and to use with ANY maps, or aerial photos. USGS has an extensive library of aerial photos, often covering more area in better detail than thier topographic maps, and there are many commercial maps available today, that are better than the USGS. So, a gps unit must provide a choice of the basic coordinate systems, and also a good choice of map datums to cover any and all of the maps you might expect to utilize. Also very important is declination offset options, especially when working with maps of varying ages and in localities such as northwestern US, western Canada and All of Alaska, where the declination is quite high. The Etrex H performs all of the necessary functions extremely well, and makes trip planning almost as much fun as the trip experience itself. I use free aerial photos and topo maps off the internet to plan my trips and preset waypoints and routes into my Etrex H when I am exploring new places for hunting, fishing, prospecting and camping. This gps unit requires a good quality compass with adjustable declination, to be used with it. Many people MISTAKE the compass arrow direction page on thier gps unit to be an electronic compass. This is not true, and only a very few makes and models have a built in electronic compass, Thus almost all hand held gps units REQUIRE the use of a good compass with adjustable declination."

    A good little unit, May 19, 2009
    By Jepter from Spokane, Washington

"I'm not a high tech kind of guy. I wanted a simple GPS that would mark camp, the truck , a treestand or other selected locations and get me there and back. This little unit does all of that and more. It is a basic / easy to use format that does everything I want in a GPS unit. I also use it to geocache with great success. Be sure to include a quality compass with your navigation kit as any GPS is not full proof. My hunting partner recently got one of these to replace his older unit. He was impressed with how well my unit worked even under some tree canopy compared to his older unit. My son also uses one of these units. For the price they can't be beat for a basic GPS. I just wish I could have had this 30 years ago!"

    great product, May 6, 2009
    By bud07 from zuni, nm

"On the opening weekend of the new mexico spring turkey hunt, my brother and I were hunting in an unfamiliar area when a snowstorm blew in. unable to see the sun or any other landmarks and visibility of only a couple of hundred yards it was a good thing that i had marked my brothers truck as waypoint #1. using our instincts we thought we had started off in the right direction, but we were way wrong. I pulled my gps out of my backpack and checked our heading. We actually were heading northwesterly instead of northeast. this was the first time i had ever used a gps device, but after that mishap, you can bet it will not be the last. i've had friends and hunting buddies tell me about the advantages of using a gps device, and now i am a believer in them. my garmin gps will accompany me on all of my outings after what we went through. A great product at a good price."

"I just bought the Garmin GPS. I was just looking for a unit that will let me get back to the boat docks, when I am on the Sacramento River or the lakes. This is a simple unit to use. It gets me back every time. I am not a Tech savy person, this is one of the most simplist units to have and use.. I have told other friends and my sons Boy Scout Troop......It will get you HOME..........."

Great unit Lousy Instructions, February 3, 2009
    By speer130 from Pennsylvania

"I love the unit as I do a lot of hunting in the Mountains of Pa. However the instructions have a lot to be desired. Seems they want one to purchase the Instructional CD. I borrowed a manual from one purchased in 2005 and it is very informative. Therefore only 3 stars instead of 5."
