Everything you need to get started using your etrex Legend HCx in a money-saving bundle. This complete bundle package includes etrex Legend HCx and standard accessories, TOPO 2008 DVD, 128MB data card and carrying case. The etrex Legend HCx displays detailed maps and navigational information on a transflective, TFT, 1.3"W x 4.2"H, 256-color, high-resolution, backlit display. The unit has a large-number option for easy viewing. A high-sensitivity WAAS-enabled, 12-parallel-channel receiver is equipped with a built-in patch antenna to provide quick, reliable and up-to-the-second information. The waterproof unit comes equipped with built-in Americas autoroute basemap and is fully compatible with MapSource products, giving you the most up-to-date detailed maps of your location available with just the push of a button. The Legend has a trip computer and is capable of storing 1,000 user waypoints with 50 reversible routes. A 10,000-point automatic track log has 20 saved tracks with 500 waypoints each. Audible alarms are provided for anchor drag, arrival, off-course and clock. The Legend rounds off its feature list with built-in celestial tables and a micro SD card slot for expanded memory capability. Two AA batteries (not included) provide up to 32 hours of use. Includes USB interface cable, bike mount adaptor and MapSource Trip and Waypoint Manager CD. "I purchased the bundle specifically to be able to upload the topo maps into the GPS. The topo maps of are adequate quality for most applications, they're easy to upload and easy to use.

The GPS unit is also nice... Navigation through the menus can be difficult at first. I'm a person who learns by doing, and through repetition, it becomes easy to navigate through the menus with familiarity. There are a lot of functions on this GPS, probably more than I'll ever use, but the ones I do use work well. I like the "joy stick" on the front of the GPS for navigation, but it can be a little tricky to work if you're using the carrying case. Satellite acquisition is very quick with this model, and the GPS seems to remain pretty accurate under heavy cover.

I'm hunting a new area this fall, and the GPS will be in my pack as a valuable tool."

"As an old Magellan user I was apprehensive at switching to Garmin but in retrospect I should have changed sooner. The product is everything I expect in a GPS unit and more. It is easy to set up and use. I have used it on several Geocache hunts and it's functionality was flawless. I appreciate the ability to add pages to the display or remove them at my whim. The full color screens make using each screen much easier.

If there were anything I would like to see in this unit it might be two:1. A larger map screen would be nice and 2. I would like to be able to turn the Tracking System on and off as needed.

However, this is not to be taken as a negative at all. Knowing what I know now of its use and operation I would definitely purchase this unit again and I highly recommend that others seriously check this unit out and consider purchasing it. I did not make a mistake and neither would you."

"I have used a few other GPS units and really like how easy the etrex is to use. The topographical map overlays are dependable and even the road maps come in handy. The maps do not include all the roads I use when it comes to National Forest logging roads but enough to get you by. I have also used the etrex to download lake maps and transfer fishing hot spots from a friend. Those waypoints brought me back directly over those fishing holes. The lake map waypoints were very helpful in navigating some fairly complex bodies of water."

"I have read about GPS devices for years. last year I bought one for my car--and it works but has horrible human engineering. Not so with this device the HCx bundle is beautifully engineered.

I wanted a hand held GPS to do park trail-path maintenance, I was as confused as ever-there are hundreds of devices! The first right thing I did was call Cabelas. The customer service guy got right to my needs and pointed me to the HCx bundle which included the Garmin TOPO US 2008 software. What a dynamite package. I use the Garmin to walk a trail, mark trees that need cutting or other maintenance items for the National Park Service. Using the software I can print maps that are very useful. They love my very-specific reports.

All of the functions-Mark, Trip computer, Find, Routes, and others work as I thought. The Sun and moon and Hunt and Fish are nice touches (but so far I still can't catch fish).

The device has a Geocaching capability and I can't wait to try this out. This gaming option may consume lots of my spare time!

One of the best features of the HCx is the speed and ability of the unit to find satellites. It is lightening fast and accurate. I borrowed an earlier version of the eTrex and it had a hard time finding satellites in the forest. This one finds and locks onto satelites even INSIDE MY HOME! As i sit here, I've got six satellites! You really should buy the HCx to keep frustration at a minimum.

The TOPO software (Mapsource) is easy to use and complete. You can upload and download waypoints. you can build tracks and routes. it takes a minute to realize that your waypoints are loaded onto a map and then you can manipulate them to show exactly what you want. Having the streets names and points of interest make it a breeze. Having the TOPO lines and "show profile" gives you a complete view of your trail. You even can jump into Google Earth views. The Help system is task oriented as well as has (seemingly) complete search capability.

I highly recommend this for any first-time buyers, but would bet it will be the second or third one you buy to upgrade."
