Hornady's new Low Drag Sabot turns the ultra-accurate SST-ML™ into the easiest-loading, hardest-hitting and most-accurate muzzleloader bullet on the planet. New polymer technology in combination with cutting-edge CNC design has given Hornady engineers the ability to do something that no other bullet company has done; deliver an easy-loading muzzleloader bullet that is accurate. In the past, easy-load muzzleloader bullets have delivered questionable accuracy. This is due to the fact that they must be manufactured smaller than the bore to allow for easy loading. Being too small for the bore means that the rifling doesn't always get the bullet spinning properly, and accuracy suffers. Hornady's new Low Drag sabot changes all that. The new sabot reduces loading effort by a whopping 50% and does not sacrifice any of the accuracy that has made the SST-ML bullet famous. This is the only easy-load muzzleloader bullet on the market that delivers true 200-yard-and-beyond performance. Per 20.

    Great, November 22, 2009
    By Kingmn64 from Illinois

"These shoot great both at the range and in the field. I have had no problem tracking any deer that I have shot at. There has been an ample blood trail if the deer managed to leave my sight after the shot. For those that say they did not expand well I have not had any such problems. And for those that have said that it didn't drop the deer as well as a bore sized bullet must not think a .45 caliber bullet is enough for a deer.... I happen to disagree and typically deer don't drop unless you shoot through the shoulder and break it."

"I used the 300 gr. in Montana in a Lyman Great Plains Hunter open sights sidelock with 85 gr. of 777 and a 800+ pound Bison just dropped. These are the greatest. I had prepared ahead of time and was able get 3 rounds with a 2" group. No problems at all."

    stick with original sabots~!, October 18, 2009
    By huntnnfish from il

"Bullets pattern terriable! I used to shoot the original with the black wad, and at 100 yrds can get three shots in the buls. These new " lo-drag easy load" don't even compare with the consistency. Don't waste your money!"

    50 Cal. 250 gr. Ballistic Tip-TOP NOTCH, August 31, 2009
    By RJMJR from Baltimore

"Again, I was not let down by a Hornady product. I was using the Hornady 240 grain XTP for years & with great success. I decided to try something new this year and I have not been disappointed. I used 100 grains of Triple Seven Pellets in my Knight Revolution and put 3/4 rounds in the 9 or 10 ring at 100yards. The 250 grain ballistic tip bullet is smooth loading and very accurate. I can't wait to use the combination in the field.

    Talk soon,

    Great Product, August 30, 2009
    By danjacs from Groton, VT

"I shoot a T/C Pro Hunter and was very disappointed with the 250 grain T/C Siper Glides in both ballistics and terminal damage as well as having to SWAB between each shot. Switched to Hornady Low Drags in 250 grain and Blackhorn 209 powder. I shoot 100 grains loose powder now instead of the trip 7's. Imagine my suprise when I shot my first three shot group with this combination and there were only 2 holes. This was with NO swabbing! I then moved out to 172 yds. I shot a 3 shot group at just over an inch! Again, NO swabbing and they loaded easily! This is by far the best shooting sabot I have ever shot. Can't wait for muzzleloader season in Vermont this year!"

    FINALLY !, August 1, 2009
By cody58554 from Mandan, North Dakota

"I shoot a TC Prohunter. So naturally I tried the TC shockwave super gluides. Could not load a second sabot for anything. Actually sent the barrel into TC thought there was something wrong. Then switched to PowerBelts, what a train wreck. The powerBelts couldn't group 6"! At the recommendation of a friend I tried the Hornady Low Drag sabots. FINALLY, I got a group that is under 2" (shooting a 1x scope). They seem to fly really well and they load super easy for a sabot. I did a little test and loaded 6 shots in a row without swabbing. Now I would never do this sighting it in, but loading a second shot in the field will be no problem. I shoot Hornady bullets in my rifle...should've just figured their sabots would be just as good. Great product!"

Hornady SST-ML is extremely accurate, April 6, 2009
By AlwaysRunning from Northern Lower Penninsula of Michigan

"Until I tried these sabots, I believed that 4-6" groups at 100 yards was the best I could do. Using the 50 cal 250 grain SST-ML, I now have 1" groups."

Good Bullet/Sabot for tight barrel, January 6, 2009
By bowhuntcamper from Rockford and Drummond Island, MI

"I bought these to try in my barrel, it is pretty tight. These load well, meaning they slide in with effort but I don't have to use all my weight to seat them properly. They group good on target and are hard hitters."

Great all around perfomance, December 26, 2008
    By lobo74 from ohio

"Very accurate easy to load in a Knight Bighorn I can keep groups at an 100 yrds to under an 1-1/2'' easly. I have used them to great effect on 6 deer this year. The only knock would be they do not expand as readly as they could. But all in all they are the best saboted bullet out there"

Accurate, but somewhat disappointing on game, December 13, 2008
    By engineergeek

"I tried these on a recommendation from a gun store employee. I had been shooting 295 grain Powerbelts with fair results (2-1/2" groups at 100 yards) from my T/C Triumph. I wanted to do better, especially at longer ranges. The Powerbelts shoot ok, but they are not very attractive at longer ranges.

I bought a box of 300 grain Hornady SST/ML low drag. I fiddled a bit with power charges and found that 120 grains of loose powder triple 7 seemed to work best. I shot a three shot group at 100 yards at 0.55"! I was impressed to say the least.

I took it hunting. Frankly, I was a bit disappointed. I am used to dropping deer in their tracks with bore sized bullets (Maxi-balls, Powerbelts, etc.) from my muzzleloaders. The soft lead bullets expand well and do a lot of damage. Often, they expend all of their energy in the animal.

I was stalking through hilly country in the woods during a snow storm trying to catch a deer bedded down in the low areas, where he could be out of the wind. I shot a very nice 225 lbs buck at a little over 100 yards while he was laying in his bed. The bullet struck the ribs, damaged both lungs and the liver. Admittedly, it was not a perfect hit, but it certainly was lethal. I was surprised when the deer ran 100 yards before succumbing. The blood trail wasn't anything to write home about. He bled very little at first, and I was following tracks and hair in the snow more than I was blood. He only bled hard the last 20 or so yards.

My amateur autopsy showed the reason. The bullet didn't seem to open up much. The exit hole and the entrance hole were similar in size. The bullet basically blew a 1/2" hole through the deer without doing much else. I do think that a bore sized bullet would have done better.

I wonder if it would have done better, if I had hit the shoulder bone. I'll have to see how it does on the next deer.
