Poor Fit,October 17, 2009
By quaack97from Southwest Colorado
"I bought this stock for my my 300 win mag for a winchester model 70 LA. It was a really tight fit and hard to get the screws back in. I had to take it to a custom stock maker, and in the end I had more money in it than a custom hand made stock."
Excellent gun stock.,August 17, 2009

"Very high quality and good fit without any modifications. Rifle stock was installed without any problem and the gun shoots fine... maybe better than it did with its original factory stock."
In-letting is fair & checkering is needed,February 17, 2009
By ECK1954from Groves, Texas
"I purchased this stock for a Ruger MK II chambered for the .300 Win Mag. The quality of the finish is very good. However, the inletting is fair at best due to interference with the safety and the floor plate for the magazine. Additionally, there is no checkering for on the forestock or the hand grip. Handling the stock while wearing gloves reduces the control of the rifle and requires increased grip strength. While the cost was low for initial purchase of the stock, gunsmithing costs of $350 brings the total cost of the stock over $500."
"Stock looks great. I bought this for about a 20 year old Savage Model 110 Long Action .270 caliber rifle, fit is great, stock looks great, good quality and good feel.
Only drawback is no checkering on the forearm, so feels a little slick in the support hand and I had to cut the factory bolt that holds the forearm to the upper as the hole in this forearm stock is a little more recessed than factory. Without shortening this bolt, it interfered with the bolt action of the rifle and you could not tighten the forearm.
"I bought this stock for my Savage Model 110 7MM Rem. Mag. The stock looks nice but the fit was very bad.I had to remove quite a bit of wood to clear the front of the trigger assembly. You would think they could get it right on a gun that has been around so long."
Boyds stocks for New Savage production rifles,December 13, 2008
By AlohaboBfrom Aloha, Oregon
"The stock itself was in excellent condition and is of great quality. But it will not fit new production Savage/Stevens rifles. The piller holes are not far enough apart for the new productions from Savage/Stevens. Will only fit old model rifles."
.308 Savage Stock,December 9, 2008
By MaximumPlayfrom Central Illinois
"The stock looks great I am very pleased with it. The only issues I had were fittingt he stock to my bull barrel. I had to sand out the forend to free float the bbl. Other that that the stock fit and looked great. I have had the oportunity to shoot it at 275yds and it shoots just as good as it did withthe factory stock, but now it looks, carries and balances better."
"I used this stock on a model 700 Remington 30-06. It is a true drop in stock and required no fitting what so ever. The rifle is just as accurate as it was with the original stock. I can highly recomend this product."
Great fit on Ruger M77 MK2 308,August 4, 2008
By Hanzmanfrom South Texas
"Replaced on Ruger M77 S/A and it dropped in perfectly. No sanding or fitting required. Sighted rifle and now ready for this years hunts....Highly recommend this stock for this rifle. Great feel, looks and shoots tight groups."
"The stock is great a new look for a old gun ,but had a slite fit problem the trigger assembly was not cut long enough to accomadate the triger guard assy. I just sanded it out with a dremmel tool. I bought a stock direct from the factory that had the same problem and also needed barrel channel sanding done to it. So it is not cabela's fault if they don't just drop in as advertised."
great update to my rifle,March 24, 2008

"This is a wonderful addition to my m77 mkII I replaced the synthetic stock on my stainless rifle and couldn't be happier. The Cabelas price is also the best I could find."
Nice Laminate Stock,February 8, 2008
By gouramifrom Garfield, NJ
"The finish on the stock is excellent as one would expect from Boyd's. As with any aftermarket product you may have to perform some minor inletting for proper fit. On the stock I received for my Ruger M77 MKII, I had to file down the magazine well to achieve the proper center line and to allow the magazine well to fit. The recessed edge of the magazine well also had to be filed down to allow a flush fit for the floor plate. Haven't had a chance to shoot the gun yet but otherwise I'm happy"
Excellent Stock,January 9, 2008
By Varmintatorfrom Boise, Idaho
"I purchased this stock to replace the ugly black zytel plastic stock that came on my Ruger .223 M77 MII stainless rifle. The gun fitment was perfect, the finish is excellent, much more comfortable cheek piece, and now the gun looks like a quality firearm that it truly is. This laminate stock is about 3/4 of a pound heavier than the plastic stock putting the total weight of the gun at 8lbs - 13oz which includes a Leupold VXII 6-18x scope mounted up. Cabela's also had the best price on this particular stock anywhere I searched."
Fits some but not all,December 5, 2007
By ROToolefrom north Alabama
"Like "Just my luck", I experienced the same issue when I tried to install the stock on a new Savage in 300 RUM. I believe the screw holes are in the right places, but the magazine box appears to be a little longer on the new rifles in magnum calibers. I put the stock on an older Savage in .270. It fit perfectly. I have not found this written anywhere, but customers should know about it. If I wanted to use the stock on the new rifle, I would have to remove wood from the back of the magazine cutout."
Just my luck !,November 30, 2007

"I ordered this stock from the catalog for a new savage model 10. It was advertised as "nutmeg laminate". The stock I received was actually "pepper laminate" Not a huge deal, I like the black/gray look of the pepper laminate too but it had a large discolored spot on the bolt side of the stock. It was as if a layer of wood did not accept the wood stain & was still BROWN. So I have a black & gray pepper laminate stock with a big brown spot on the side. I was willing to keep the stock & touch it up myself. I dropped the barreled action into the stock, the fit looked ok until I went to screw in the front action screw . The forward-most screw hole in the stock was actually drilled out about 1/4" too far back. The rear action screw, which runs through the trigger guard, lined up fine. There was absolutely no way the front one would work. The hole in the stock was simply off by 1/4". I want to say that I have 2 other JRS stocks what were ordered directly from Boyds a few years ago, both for the Remington 700. They are perfect in every way. This one has been a train wreck from the time I opened the box. I have no choice but to return it for a refund since I don't have confidence that another stock will fit due to the issue with the front action screw. I'm very disappointed, I really wanted a JRS on my new Savage. Because of quality control on the discoloration & the fact that the pre-drilled screw holes don't line up, sadly I give it 1 star"
new stock for old gun,November 27, 2007

"I ordered the boyd's JRS laminated stock from Cabelas a few weeks ago. When it arrived, I opened the box and was impressed with how good the stock looked and when I picked it up and held it, I was impressesed with the feel of it. The rifle I bought it for is a Ruger M-77 MKII chambered in .338 win mag. I was concerned that I might have to do some barrel channel relief, but was pleasently surprised that the barreled action fit right in with no modification needed. The fit is very good. Not perfect, however it is very acceptable. I test fired the rifle last Saturday and was again pleasently surprised. Even with the rubber butt plate (not a recoil pad) the rifle's felt recoil is similar to my .30-06 which has a decelerator pad attached to it. The .338 was comfortable to shoot and the accuracy extremely good with a 1/2 inch three shot group at 100 yards with Remington factory ammo. I am very satisfied and recomend this product. drGDC"
