"These are the most comfortable walking/hiking shoes that I've ever owned for even and uneven terrain. Be sure to order 1/2 size larger than your normal size, otherwise your toes may touch the end. I have wide feet, so the extra wide size was perfect for my foot."

"I have bought Country Walking Shoes for years but this pair I recently bought was not made the same way. The size was right but they were made very short and the width was much narrower then my other pairs. Construction was good along with the style. I just sent these back and ordered a larger pair, which hopefully fit better. I would recommend these but make sure to order a larger size and different width then what you normally wear."

"These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever had. They were great from the first time I put them on. I would highly recommend them and I may buy another pair for myself. I use them for everday wear and also 4 mile walks on pavement."

Disappointed in current version,

"I have purchased this shoe twice before my current purchase. I no longer recommend the shoe. The shoe is not being made the same way, and it hurts my feet. The toe box is too narrow (even though I ordered the wide width when my usual width is "B"). The shoe is very stiff and does not "break in". The part that hits at the ankle just above the heel hurts unless you wear very thick socks, and the shoe is made too small and narrow to allow for thick socks. Way too painful for such an expensive shoe."

"I read water meters for a living so I am always walking, walking, walking! On wet lawns, in the bushes, kicking dirt around to find them. These shoes are great, they have kept my feet dry and comfortable all day long. And they are attractive looking. I will buy another pair when they wear out."

"I purchased these shoes about 2 months ago. I work in a very wet and mostly concrete business. I have found that these shoes are already coming apart at the seams and leaking. The foot support is o.k. but the shoe is so tight my little toe is jammed into and cuts my second toe. You may want to try wide size for regular foot."

"Two years ago I bought this very same walking shoe size 8D. This time I again bought the very same shoe and same size. They seem to be a tad short at the toe - especially if you need to wear heavy socks. The shoe itself is great. Even measuring it up against my old shoe, it's a tad shorter. So, I don't know if this is just a problem this year or if I need to order the 8 1/2 next time. But it's a great country walker."

"I read the reivew of the shoe after I ordered it and they said the shoe is sized small and that should be noted when buying. Sure enough it was too small so==== I have to ship back and get a larger size. Please note this in the advertisement. I think the shoe will be great but to not have to go through the hazzle. I would suggest you state it so."

"New Balance is in my mind an odd company. Their shoes are well constructed but their sizing is usually off by being a half size small. My wife has been wearing New Balance shoes for years and knows what size to order to fit her feet. This latest one we bought, the 977 Country Walker, was so small that we had to return it. I think this pair was mis-sized over and above what we have come to expect and deal with in New Balance. Can't explain it any other way.
I do wish, however, that New Balance would in general size their shoes to a last common in the industry. One other company that carries their shoes has had a disclaimer in their catalog for years advising that New Balance run a half size small."

You can wear them in any cool or cold weather and will keep your feet dry, they are light-weight and good for walking, hiking or just mall crawling. "These were the nicest-looking hiking boots I've come across in a long time and I was very excited about getting them. But the sides hit right below the middle of the ankle and on the first hike they left bruises, so unfortunately I had to return them."

"I bought these country walkers to work around our horse stable. They are very comfortable, just like walking with a pair of slippers on my feet. I need good support whereas I am on my feet all day and these shoes provide comfort and support to keep me going. These shoes are also water proof and after working around the stable all day where I run into all kinds of wet conditions, these shoes have come through to keep my feet dry."
