Daiwa 3ib, yes its the best bang for your buck!!!,October 27, 2009
By fishmaster17from UTAH
"I quit looking for a new fishing reel i found an affordable quality brand that comes in every size!!!! I tried the pflueger president its five stars, shimano higher end reels 5 stars as well. This reel hanged with best of them i picked up 5 of these bad boys seem to good to be true. The 3000s is a great size and will hold lots 10pound monofiliment. I would order larger 4000 for ocean fishing i think there good enough! Action reminds me of old mitchell 300 france reels same positive click. There is no play in beautiful handle none. Made in Vietnam which is a good thing! I can afford higher end reels but liked this one so much, ooo and its lightweight to boot."

Dawai Crossfire 3iB,February 20, 2008
By poptu
"This reel hangs up when beginning to retrieve after casting, to the point where you have to nearly always manually flip the bail back over, or else back-up and get a "running start". It's manageable, but I wouldn't buy a second one."

A solid value and above average in spinning reels,September 23, 2007
By Gyozadudefrom Sunnyvale, CA
"When I heard that Daiwa was going to release new, lowend spinning reels with digi-gear design, I was pretty excited, because if they're anything like the newTeam Daiwa series, this would mean incredibly smooth but crisp gearing. I already own quite a fewExceler reels and have been amazed by their performance. Other makes of reels often tout many more bearings, but to get all the gears to mesh with all those bearings, they engineer in too much slop, and so the reel has a mushy-feel and quite a bit of play.
My new Crossfire 3iB certainly meets the digi-gear expectations. I bought the 2500 model of this reel and plan to order other sizes now that I've got this one to play with. For the price, it is amazingly smooth and crisp and has minimal play. The IAR roller bearing truly provides zero reverse rotation. In addition, the new graphite body is not the old soft, injection molded material. This seems to be some new cast, high density, graphite almost as hefty as metal, and there is virtually zero flex.
Flipping open the bail and then manually closing it is no issue. The bail stays open in place, but it's not locked, so you have a choice of either manually closing the bail with your free hand, or cranking the handle to close. Closing the bail is light if you can get a 1/4 turn cranking start. However, it can get stuck open and and require some muscle to close with cranking if the anti-reverse is engaged and there is no backplay. This isn't any harder than the average reel with IAR. But just a note if you plan to buy this for say, a young child. I'd recommend this for 8 years old and up or train the angler to close the bail manually after casting.
I was worried a little about the specs for a folding handle. Most makers leave too much play. But I was again surprised at the stiffness of the spring and the positive lock into position once the handle is unfolded and in place. There is virtually no play either in the handle, which is a common area of cheap construction on other reels.
I can't complain either about the spare -graphite- spool. At this price point, the fact that it has a spare spool is a nice gift.
Drag was surprisingly smooth and linear. With the previous Crossfire and Sweepfire series, Daiwa had a tendency for very non-linear drag (i.e. turn the drag knob 1 turn, and go from loosey-goosey to full-on drag). But the new 3iB seems to really work out this problem. The drag now goes from ounces to full-on in 2 1/2 - 3 full turns.
I'm in the process of saltwater testing for corrosion, which impacts internal parts and the rotor/IAR bearing the worst. I don't have results yet, but hope Daiwa, as usual, won't disappoint.
However, I am deducting one star from my rating due to 2 issues: a) one with lubrication during factory assembly, and b) the design of the line-roller bail arm.
My 2500 had a slightly annoying squeak as I cranked. It was still extremely smooth and crisp, but only after a quick disassembly did I discover the spool shaft and oscillating cam were running dry with no grease. I rebuilt and re-lubed the reel and this corrected the squeaking.
I also am somewhat concerned with the line roller bushing and bail arm. This is made of plastic and thin. The line roller itself is smaller in diameter than the traditional large twist-busting style of rollers and has a very narrow ridged lip where the line rides. I would probably abstain from using braided lines on such a bail arm/line roller combination. It does not seem beefy enough to support the stresses of high lbs test line. For the maximum rated 8lbs mono, however, it's probably fine."
