"I recently purchased this as a gift for my son. we took our boat to a lake at aprox. 5000ft we were catching rainbows 15 to18 inches my kid pulling them in with ease as I was complaining about my reel so I tried his fish eagle2500 and landed a 25 inch rainbow on 6lbs line the drag was amazing along with the quick ratio retrieve to make long story short my reel is in reelheaven and I ordered one for mysef.
p.s. for the quatity this reel is well underpriced !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"More reel for the money than any other I could find. I purchased two (two models)on sale. It helps a lot when one can read the responses of other sportsmen to a particular item before purchasing. Haven't fished a lot with them yet, however I am pleased so far with the quality and overall function. The drag could stand to be a little smoother and more precise, but should smooth up with use. I don't buy high-priced reels because for sure I end up busting a favorite one. If one does not hook a lot of heavy fish, reels of somewhat lesser quality stand up pretty well. I plan to test out the larger reel on 5-15 lb carp in river current below a dam. Carp are stubborn and make wild runs about the time you shortline them in close. They will make or break lighter tackle, and if you don't use a drag correctly they are gone either when they first get stung or later get spooked about the time you think they are tired out. They are fine practice for species more esthetic. We'll find out if the eagle gets them landed."

"Have already been using this reel for the last month. This is one of the smoothest reels I've ever used. For the price I desided to take a chance, and this time it was NOT a Mistake. I will be looking to maybe get a few more to give as gifts for the Birthdays & end of year Holidays if the price is still right. I purchased the one listed with the 6lb. test. I have been pulling in 20" plus inch channels, 15-20" white bass, 3-5 lb.large mouths, couple 18 & 19"smallies etc... I have been using it on these larger fish, and all I can say is thank you."

"i bought a pair of these to replace some older reels, and i'm pleased i did. i just used them for the first time this weekend with the metal spool (it also has a graphite/plastic one that comes with it-very handy). i torture tested it on a major hike into no mans land, many miles back, then walked down an overgrown stream. this involved casting from a simple flip to as-far-as-possible and it did well - even a little too well as it cast further than expected. nice and smooth. i smashed it against a rock wall while crossing it for a perfect spot, i submerged it in silty beaver pond water, and last but not least, i caught a lot of fish with it!! other gear didn't survive this trip but this reel did. i would suggest you get 2!!!"

"Really impressed with what I received in this Cabela's bargain catalog reel product. Its hard to believe that such a smooth operating reel can be made available at such a low price. I'm pretty confident that the reel will hold up well in my upcoming 2008 Summer fishing efforts. It, the reel, definitely appears to be well made. I did recommend the reel to my son-in-law who carefully looked it over and immediately purchased one for his son, my grandson. He purchased the smallest model and he told me he was happy with the product when he received it where it will also be used in our family's 2008 Summer fishing efforts."
