No luck on this one,July 28, 2009
By Volpinofrom Olathe, Kansas
"Tried different loads and did not get results as offered, yes I sight it in at 50 yards, I got 1.5" inch groups there but the point of impact was high at 100 yards about 8 inches, and low at 150 about a foot, the reticle didn't work on my slug gun for long distances, I shot Winchester Loads and Hornady 300 grain SST, very good at 50 and beyond that you can't rely on it because it gives you misreadings unless you hold over but what is the point of the scope then, there was no consistency at 150 yards, didn't bother to try it at 200, I will try the Leuopold to see if it improves accuracy."

Worth the money,December 25, 2008
By VATributefrom Eastern Virginia
"We recently had rifles taken away from us in our county so as a cheap alternative I purchased an H&R slug gun. A gun is only as good as its sights so I spent just as much on A slughunter scope as I did on the gun...not a mistake. Took 4 shots to zero with Hornady SST slugs at 50yds. Took it out to 100 then 150...dead on, my particular setup was about 2" high at 200 yds using the suggested aiming points. I have killed 2 deer with it so far and have NO complaints or regrets!"

Not fogproof at all,December 19, 2008
By Lulofrom From New Jersey, hunt in NJ and NY
"Everything worked great wiht this scope until I used it on a couple of hunts under extreme wet conditions. I had to be drying it constantly. I was very dissapointed wiht this, since I had been very pleased with everything else, I'll try to use an antifog liquid to see if this help. I haven't try it at 150 ydrs, I've done groups of 1-2 inches at 100, using a Benelli M2, so accuracy has been a plus, but Fog could be a problem considering that rain or snow are fairly common conditions when hunting the North East."

Good Value,December 15, 2008
By Longbow1from Southern Maryland
"Great Scope for the price. I mounted it on an 870 with a 26" Hastings heavy BBL. Bore sighted prior to range. Obtained perfect zero at 50-yds. with first 3-shots using Hornady Sabots. With my particular weapon the average impact point is +2" using the 100 and 150-yd reticle's and +7" using the200-yd. bottom post. Good light gathering qualities and clearity for a scope in this price range. I have taken 7 white tails this 2008 season with this set up at ranges from 67yds. out to 186-yds. I am so well pleased with this scope that I am seriously considering replaceing a perfectly good scope on my favorite muzzleloader with the Omega (muzzle loader verison) of this scope."

Nikon Slughunter,November 30, 2008
By BigMike72from Urbana, Ohio
"I had purchased the "Omega" scope last season for my CVA Optima Pro, and absolutely loved it. The "Slughunter" met similar expectations after sighting it in, however, this scope seemed to be more difficult to sight. I used the Lightfield Hybred sabot slugs. I really liked the slugs, and am sure the ammo has everything to do with shotgun accuracy. The Ohio gun season opens tomorrow, and I still feel more confident with my muzzleloader. More time is needed at the range with this scope. However, I praise Nikon for the quality of their products."

scope issues,October 31, 2008
By newmuzzleloaderfrom The Peoples Republic of Maryland
"I bought this scope for my muzzleloader because it had two BDC circles instead of the 4 cluttering up the scope designated for muzzleloaders. Both scopes were identical otherwise, I just wanted a clearer picture. Only problem was it did not fit "my" rifle, a savage 10ml II. I had to return it and buy a longer rifle scope."

Nikon Slughunter Scope,October 22, 2008
By Gobofrom Augusta, GA
"The long eye rlief is great. The scope is crystal clear with an excellant field of view. Zeroing was easy with the adjustment knobs-no screwdriver or coin needed! Have tried the Hornady SSTs and Winchester Partition Golds in my 20 Ga H&R Ultra Slug. No more than 2 clicks difference at 100 yds. The scope works just fine and the range circles are right on for those 2 brands of slugs. If there are any improvements needed I would suggest the reticles be just a bit thicker for low light conditions and the tube be extended just a bit. Had a little trouble with the hammer clearing the bell on the scope and just a small amount of adjustment available. Liked this one so well, I got the one designed for muzzleloaders and put it on my Winchester Apex 209 Magnum with great results."

Great Scope!!!,October 18, 2008
By junebug4024from Berlin, Wi
"Just spent the afternoon trying out this scope on a H&R ultra slug gun. The optic are clear and bright. I had no problem sighting in the scope at 50 yards. I shot out to 225 yards and the recomended way of adjusting the sight worked real fine. I wish the 100,150 and 200 yard aiming points would of been on....but given the type of bullet and barrel...I had no problem adjusting and now I am able to hit a target from 50 to 225 yards!! Who would of thought that one could shoot accuately out to 200 plus yards with a shotgun???? I will be waiting for November to come to see if I can do what I just did on the range!!!"

Perfecto!,October 11, 2008
By believethehypefrom Leavenworth, IN
"I bought the Nikon Slug Hunter W/BDC and was sceptical on how it would work. It proved me wrong though. At the range the 2 3/4 Hornady SST worked great, but you can't use them in the field unless you have a half mile or so to track animals.
So I sighted in with 2 3/4 Lightfield Hybred EXP, the BDC was perfect! Dead on at 50yds cutting holes, 100yds 1" groups, 150yds it spaced out a little bit to 6" groups. I think it was my error because the height was consistant left to right not so much. Thats a 546 grain 62 cal. slug were talking about though!
Both rounds were shot out of an 11-87 21" fully rifeled cantiliver scope mount barrel and the BDC did great on both! Anybody that says this won't work is making things too HARD. Don't listen to them!"

didnt perform,September 23, 2008
By farmboy123from owosso,mi
"I only use nikon scopes, when this product came out I said im in. The dot system doesnt work. I spent 100.00 dollars more on this scope when my nikon prostaff is just as accurate. I shoot a browning bps, browning rifiled slug barrel 20 inch, nikon slugmaster scope, lightfield 1 one quarter ounce slugs. Im lucky enough to have my gun hit in the same spot at 50 yards that it does at 100 yards by using the 50 yard crosshair. The back page of directions has some complicated formula for supposedly making the dots work by shooting at 150 to 200 yards at big cardboard piece then you need to be a math major to figure out that formula. Wish i would have saved the extra 100 dollars an just bought a prostaff instead cuz the results were the same."

BDC Slughunter,September 11, 2008
By mudranger1from Tampa, Fl
"I bought this for my browning bps with a hastings rifled barrel. The scope is crystal clear and has great eye relief. I don't understand the BDC retical though. Listed on Nikon's website it says that the scope is designed speifically for use with sabot slugs such as the Hornady SST. According to Nikon if you sight the gun in dead on at 50 yards the first circle down should be used for 100 yards. Well shooting the SST, it is actually flat or even a little high using the main reticle. The Hornady chart for the SST's seems to be dead on so I'm not real sure the purpose of the BDC reticle. I have yet to shoot out past 100 yards so I'm not sure how it works out past that"

Nikon Slughunter,September 11, 2008
By Live4bowhuntingfrom La Plata Maryland
"This scope lives up to Nikon's great reputation and stands up to the punishment my 11-87 gives it. Even though I could only get it with the BDC and I thought that this would be distracting when shooting, this marks are barely noticeable. I love the light gathering capabilities it has and I can’t wait to get it out in the woods here in a few weeks. Awesome scope."

Great scope with a few problems,November 28, 2007
By BillBeefrom Eastern NC
"I also own the very similar Nikon Omega scope utilized on my Thompson Omega muzzleloader. Nikon's muzzleloader scope provides a powder load and bullet info in order to utilize the range rings in the reticle. The slug scope does not provide any type of slug requirements in order to obtain the the correct point of impact indicated by scope reticle rings. Nikon needs to prepare a chart of slugs that will work with this scope. Length of Barrel, 2 3/4" or 3" ? Be prepared for a lot of time on the bench. Would only recommend for those who understand the problems involved in sighting in and using the special reticles in this Nikon scope."
