"I absolutely love this safe. We have tried it many times and it always works. It is very quick - triggers in 1-2 seconds. I have also left my children and other people try it multiple times, and it has never opened for anyone but my husband and me. It was worth the money."

"the first one i recieved seemed to be made in a hurry. the fingerprint function worked fine, but the door latch didnt fit, so it wouldnt even lock. I did receive the replacement from Cabela's quickly though, and it works fine so far. The interior light function is also a good idea."

"I bought this safe alittle leary about fingerprint technology on gun safes. After setting it up all my doubts went out the door. The safe opens up fast and smoothly without , most of the time, any problems. The only huddle is placing your finger exactly the way you programed it. This is fixed by simply practicing opening it. My pistols are loaded and ready to go at a moments notice but, safe from anyone else.Not having to fumble around for a key adds to speed of this safe. I would recommend this safe for anyone who keeps their pistols for home protection and is worried about keeping a loaded pistol in the house"

Use finger buttons with caution, cable may break,June 6, 2009

"I have two of the Gun Vault gun safes, have used older one of two on a daily basis for at least 6 months, newer one with redesigned buttons sits next to bed.
Just recently I went to open the older safe with the rubber covered buttons and only heard a light buzzing sound, turns out the cable which must wrap around the shaft of a small motor each time the safe is opened with the finger buttons had broke and the only way to open it was with the key.
This can be fixed by peeling back the foam (inside top) and removing 3 small screws to drop out the lock module. You must then remove the crimp shells for the cable from the motor shaft, I used a dremal tool and a small carbide cutter. I then used a fishing leader cable and a 14-16 gauge electrical connector to secure the cable to the motor shaft. You can reuse the crimp for the small loop on the other end of the cable by lightly squeezing the ends till the cable inside releases.
I would recommend using the keys for everyday access to the Gun Vault and only use the finger combo buttons in emergencies.
Word to the wise, nothing works all the time. Always have a backup plan just in case."

"Big and bulky. Mostly an eyesore if it is placed in an area where readily available. My BIG problem is that the biometric technology is just not that reliable. I can't be sure the safe will open every time. Over a month of keeping track, the odds of successfully OPENING vs. NOT Opening were less than 50%. That is poor when you consider that for home protection, I need the safe to be 100% reliable. Sorry. It was a great idea but I just can't depend on it."

"The Gun Vault safe intended to work with finger print reader does not ship with everything needed to make it work. One arrived by UPS and it was missing the battery pack needed to operated it off 120 volt AC. Written directions and phone call to factory support both state you need an auxillary battery pack to use the vault but they forgot to include the battery pack.
I tried to exchange the vault at nearby Cabela's store and they checked several of their vaults on hand and all had same defect. The one shipped at least had directions telling of add on battery pack needed to operated vault but store models didn't provide any explanation of why these vaults would not work. One customer had returned one because it didn't work. I didn't try to work it off AC cause I didn't plan to have it in a location where it could be plugged in."

"I recieved the unit without any instruction manual, after goint online to figure out how to set the locking mechanism, and then doing so, the unit would open only about 1 time in 10 attempts. I repeated this many times in a row without any better results. I sent it back the same day I recieved it. I had really hoped for better."

"This safe works very well for me. I use it in the master bedroom to safeguard a firearm for home protection. I wanted a safe way to store the firearm while allowing quick access in the dark without remembering a combination or fumbling with buttons.
The fact that this safe can be opened entirely by feel makes it perfect for this purpose. As long as you can get your hand onto the grooved, hand-shaped area you should be able to open the safe with just your fingerprint without having to see anything.
As this firearm could be the most important one I own (if for some unfortunate reason I need it in the middle of the night in a big hurry) I didn't mind spending this much money on the safe.
This model lets you enroll (learn) multiple sets of fingerprints so I found that learning the same finger, multiple times, greatly improved any recognition problems.
It never takes more than a few seconds to get the safe open so I like it quite a bit."

"I purchased this gun safe for my husband for Christmas. It was easy to program both of our finger prints. We printed the directions for the safe from the internet. Inside is large enough for 2 hand guns. We like the ease of the quick opening hatch. But we still get startled with the fast force of opening the safe door. We would recommend this product to anyone looking for a gun safe. It bought us peace of mind having firearms in the house with children."

"I was a bit hesitant to buy this product...man was I wrong. After the initial set up ( which took 5 minutes) the unit has worked beyond my expectations. It took about 20 test openings until it really kicked in. I test it every day and it opens in a second once activared. GREAT PRODUCT if you want to have handguns for the ready for personal protection but want them safe from others in your home. BUY IT...you won't be sorry!!!"

"received my gun safe the XMAS from my son. not at all what I had expected fro XMAS, but he knew I had always wanted a safe for our bedroom. the safe was packaged well, installation and set up instructions clear (and easy). it took about 1/2 hour to mount and have fully functional. am very pleased with it's size, function, and most importantly, the added security of having a firearm easily available, and secure."

"I bought this product thinking that in a hurry I would be able to access my weapon. Also that it would be even more secure in the fact that it was only my print that would open the safe. Well after resetting multiple times and trying to access safe even after resetting and leaving my finger in same position as I set the safe with it still took over 10 times for the reader to open the safe. This is secure alright and yes it will keep your gun and other items out of the reach of others but quick access in emergency no way. I would not trust this to work in a hurry. having tried this out for over 1 week on average it took between 10-15 tries before safe would open. That is with entering my print multiple times at almost every possibly angle/position on the reader. I will be taking this back immediately. It is definitely not worth the price. With the amount of time it takes to open safe I would be better off with a larger key pad model that I could fit more into, and it would probably be faster!"

"I like the concept but if your fingerprint is left behind and dust falls on it the safe can be opened any time. I came into the room and my two year old son had my gun and clip on the bed. I checked and tested it afterwards and it opened EVERY time until I cleaned the fingerprint off the pad."

"Overall, a great little safe. The price is a little steap, but you're buying more than secure storage, you're buying fast access. The only downside, as I see it, is a lack of hard-mounting options. There are pre-drilled holes at the bottom surface, and a cable-mount position on the side. Would like additional options. Also, for the price, mounting hardware should be included. Additionally, my safe did not come with a manual - programming in the first fingerprint is easy, adding additional fingerprints is tough without instructions."

"Works exactly as advertised...I had absolutely no problem programming in fingerprints. Big enough for more than a few handguns and a small flashlight. The only shortcoming of the included instructions is that it isn't initially clear where to put the backup 9-volt battery (inside, underneath the foam, in the upper rear).
