Waterproof ... in dew, maybe.,October 23, 2009
By coldnomofrom Chicago, IL.
"I was leary that I could get good waterproof boots for under a C note, but I thought I'd give it a try.I have had the boots for about 3 weeks. I have only hiked about 8 miles with these shoes and all of the other wear is intown. They run narrow, as others have said, but its no big deal. If you order from a catalog, order wide. I replaced the insole right away with a thicker, softer insole and they are comfortable after another $20.00 investment. To my disappointment they ARE NOT waterproof. I am headed back to the Hammond store after work to exchange them, but I have to stop by home first to exchange my sodden socks. Given the fact that the insole is a little cheep and they leak, I couldn't recommend them."

They last forever!,September 22, 2009
By Frimkfrom El Paso, TX
"I bought the Mesa Hikers over two years ago, after exchanging them for an EE. I've used them literally every morning for two years, 30 minutes of walking. They are warm and dry. I upgraded them by gluing fabric reflective tape cut to fit ( it's dark at 5 am in fall/winter). I got rid of the leather patch on the upper tongue: makes pulling the laces off difficult. And I have used 4 or 5 pairs of heel plates otherwise I would have worn out the heel: I use the glue from the heel plate and small wood screws 1/2" long (the heel is very thick) to secure them. At first you sound like a cowboy with spurs, but once the heads wear off, no problem. They wear well and I'm still on the original laces; burning off the fluff with a lighter gives them friction to keep them laced. I've washed the boots with a wash-in cleaner for breathable fabrics twice with no problems. They still look great and do their job."

Mid Hiker,September 9, 2009
By parkercofrom Parker, CO
"I ordered my normal shoe size (10 D) and it was too narrow.
I re-ordered a 10-EE and it fit very well e.g. - the foot bed fits but is quite stiff on my ankle.
Additional padding at the ankle for the mid-hiker would improve this product."

Hard to beat,August 5, 2009
By FixitGuyfrom Southern Indiana
"Good price, good traction, very light weight, holds up well, great ankle support, excellent size selection, thoroughly waterproof, laces don't tend to come undone once tied. I use these when slogging through wet forest areas, up and down hills, mucking out horse stalls."

Great boot, but they dont know what wide means,July 28, 2009
By SwineHunterfrom TEXAS
"This will be the 5th pair over about 4 years of these boots that I have purchased. I am 6ft 4in and about 325lbs and wear a size 14 extra wide. The Grand Mesas are my boot of choice. I own a small ranch in West Texas that is covered with limestone rock that is like ball bearings with razor blades on them. These boots hold up good to this abuse and will continue to buy them and put them on my feet.
My only reason for not giving the Grand Mesa 5 stars is because the EE size could be a true EE size not a small chinese guys EE size. This seems to be the only true complaint on these shoes, but for the price you can not go wrong."

Nice boots, but size seems to run small.,June 23, 2009
By RTinMO
"Ordered my usual wide size. I liked the looks, the light weight and quality of these hiking boots, but had to return them as they just didn't fit right. The next larger may have worked better, but decided to purchase boots that I could try on in the store."

"The first time I laced them up one of the hooks at the top came off. This is not what I'm used to experiencing with your shoes. It can be fixed at a shoe shop for very little but it shows questionable quality."

Hard on my toenails,January 21, 2009
By SmellyFeetfrom Washington
"I hiked into the Enchanted Valley and out with my daughter last summer in a pair of these boots. That is around 27 miles, and these boots where not a great choice to wear. My feet were sore during the hike and I ended up loosing both of my big toenails. And they, the boots, still smell."

Awesome boot!,January 2, 2009
By MJWCalifrom Los Angeles, CA
"I recently put this boot to the test when I returned to Chicago for the Xmas holiday. The weather in Chicago was PERFECT to put this boot to the test. It was cold, windy, snowy, slushy, rainy and icey, a typical winter in Chicago. Not once were my feet welt or cold. All I wore was a pair of white athletic socks and my feet were toasty warm. When I took off the boots and felt my feet they were as warm and as dry as can be. I was totally impressed with the Dry Plus feature and the boots were NEVER wet. The outside repels water perfectly. I would strongly recommend these boots to wear."
