Cabela's "Bubba H2O" GXT881VP4 GMRS Radio Pack by Midland®

Bubba got himself a dry suit. The "Bubba H2O" GXT881VP4 keeps the lines of communication open, even in the worst weather. Up to a 26-mile range, under ideal conditions, gives two hunters plenty of room to roam and stay in contact. 22 user-selectable channels keep you from talking on the same channels as other near-by radio users. Plus, the radio has a VOX setting and can be set to silent operation to keep from spooking wary game. Hi/Lo switchable power and battery life extender helps prolong battery life. Speaker/mic jack. Auto squelch. Includes: Two radios, two headsets, dual desk charger, AC wall adapter, DC vehicle adapter and rechargeable battery packs. Runs off battery packs or four AA batteries (not included). Dimensions: 2-1/2"L x 1-3/4"W x 8"H.

"Absolutely Worthless! I originally purchased a set of these radios and sent them back as they would not even transmit/receive one mile, and thought they must certainly be broken. The new pair arrived, and the same result. Manufacturer states up to 26 miles, take my word for it you will be luck to get 1/4 of a mile in the rolling hills of the southeast. A one star rating is giving this item some credit."

"I USED IN MONTANA MUELL DEER HUNTING IN SOME ROUGH TERRAIN AND THEY PREFORMED VERRY GOOD AT LONG DISTANCE AND ALSO IN NORTHERN MICHIGAN IN THE HILLS. AND AGAIN THEY WORKER WILL IN ALL KINDS OF

"Great Radio for the price. Excellent battery life with one charge. Range was excellent in broken hilly terain. The signal came in clear for 2 to 3 miles of heavy mountain and forested area where we used them."

"Radios worked fine--especially the quiet feature. Problem I encountered was after using the rechargable batteries once and then recharging, they only lasted 30min. Had to leave camp and drive 20 miles each way to buy some replacements. Intend to send original back to manufacturer"

"This is the 2nd time I have had trouble with these or similar radios from Cabelas. In both cases the products worked apropriately for several minutes. Within a very short time one of the units would remain on "send" with an open mike. Repeted efforts to correct the malfunction were unsuccessfull. I kept the 1st set for a year or more, trying from time to time to see if I could correct the problem. I finally threw them away and bout the above, more expensive and more powerful units. Since I was leaving on an RV trip in a weeks time I paid for expedited delivery service. The radios failed after the first few trial transmissions and were unavailable for our trip. I wonn't be acquiring any more of these radios."

No Range and not very waterproof, June 22, 2008

"Testing these radios before my trip to the BWCA the max range was about five miles line of sight. The first rain in the BWCA the the display looked like it got water in it and you could not tell what channel you were on. Then they would not transmitt at all. I took mine back. Cabela's has EXECELLENT customer service."

"these radios do not have subcodes! i didn't even test them when i figured this out. for those of you who do not know, the subcodes prevent hearing other conversations on the same channel. so, if you are, say, skiing, or in a mall, or anywhere others might be using radios, without the subcodes you will likely have others on your channel and spend the whole day switching channels."

"I tested the set of radios in hilly country while one remained at home with a friend. I got clear transmission at the 3 mile mark but then started to break up when entering a deep coulee. The headsets could use some design adjustments, as it was difficult to keep the ear piece in place without a headband.

Overall, they are good units for the money and I will certainly recommend them to a friend."

FCC licensing, July 20, 2007

"Before you purchase these 2-way radios and plan to use all the channels please be aware the our government is going to require you to complete documention and provide them with $85 to fully use them. If anyone other than you or your spouse and children were to use the additional channels offered you could be in trouble. This was not how I expected the outcome of the addtional channels prior to purchasing them. I hope the range is better than 2 miles mentioned in a previous review.

"Bought these radios because of their apparent features and range but found the range they claimed was not very accurate. As stated in their profile range is affected by many factors but I feel that any radio should work at 2-3 miles as the crow flies regardless of basic obstacles. Our terrain is not very severe but they functioned poorly beyond 2 miles. Work very nicely at close range."

"I guess it's all about range. and yes this radio claims to have a 26 mile range. and some people would get very upset when they find that it doesn't have that range for their terain.
I went in just hoping that if they boasted the radio has a 26 mile range that I would get 10 miles out of it.

All I can say is It reaches the other end of the lake. perhaps 4 miles. around mountains.
in town I get about a mile with all the buildings. Simple to use.
sweet little radio. for my situation they have worked superbly thus far.

just know that you will most likely never get the range they boast. that is always under OPTIMUM conditions, terrain and weather.
