As good as it gets!!!,October 21, 2009
By Anonymous
"I received this camera last year as a Christmas gift and finally put it out this year (early august). So far, I still have 61% battery life and it has taken over 4,000 pictures and a few videos! The picture quality is superb! I have managed to capture large bucks, small deer, turkey, fox, racoons, squirrels, and even bobcats!! I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable trailcam!"

Great Camera,October 18, 2009
By buck1966from PA
"Put this camera out in July and it is now mid October. Still has 60% on original set of batteries. It's been taking about 100-200 pictures per week. Very good quality pictures. I think you do have to watch the placement of it with consideration to the sun. If you don't have it right, you can get white or washed out pictures first thing in the morning or just before dark. Even with the washed out pictures though, you can usually still make out the animal."

Worked for a while - sort of!,October 13, 2009
By sam1of5from Wis
"I bought 3 of the Moultrie I40's and 2 of them now have blank display screens rendering them useless. When they did work I watched deer walk and loiter in front of them and after checking the camera later there was no picture of them. Spend a little more and get a quality camera."

Buyer Beware!,September 29, 2009
By mmagicfrom Missouri
"I have one of the Moultrie Game Spy 4.0 IR cameras, and one of the 4.0 flash cameras. The 4.0 IR camera is actually a replacement for the Moultry 6.0 camera which I had to send back for repair (i.e., replacement) 4 times in less than a year. The 6.0 is apparently discontinued. I can only imagine why. I've only had the 4.0 IR "replacement" camera for less than two months, and already having problems which render it useless (the display does'nt function properly). It's been 13months since I purchased my first Moultrie game spy camera, the original 6.0 has been replace four times, and now needs repair/replacement again. The 4.0 has been replaced once in about 8 months.
I know three other people with Moultrie cameras, and they have experienced similar problems with having to replace their cameras one-or-two times.
If you're spending money on a trail camera, you should consider any other camera besides Moultrie."

mixed feelings,September 24, 2009
By hollandman
"I got this camera a couple years ago when it had one of the highest customer reviews. I was happy with it until just recently. It's daytime & nighttime pics. were great. Ive had plenty of big buck pics on here but it started going downhill. first I had to start using twigs to hold the door up while aiming the camera, & at weird ligting conditions the photos came out completely white. & now the infrared wont work on it, all my nighttime photos are black, I emailed moultrie customer service, & was just told that it had a year warranty & if it is older than that ( which mine is) that they cant look at it, & they said I should purchase a new one. Was no help at all I might switch to a bushnell camera. The only reason I said I would recommend it was because of it's (former) performance I would be weary about getting this camera."

Inferior product, poor customer service,September 23, 2009
By PhoneProfrom 61 year old treestand bow hunter, Bath, N.H.
"I have had the Moultrie I40 for about a year now. Do not buy this product. Mine came with a cracked lense on the sensor but it still worked so I didn't send it back. The plastic loops that hold the strap for going around a tree are cheap and break easily. The small rubber gaskets around the lense and battery compartment come out every time you open them and become stretched out. I had to put vaseline on them to keep moisture out. The SD card slot is nearly impossible to access with your fingers. You either have to put a piece of tape on the card or carry a pair of long nose pliers to remove. The sensor becomes less sensitive over time , even with new batteries and a high speed SD card. The manual is so simplified that it doesn't list trouble codes. My latest problem : error code 2000 isn't on their website and it's impossible to contact customer service because the two lines are constantly busy. I recently purchased another brand that is smaller and designed much better. Jury is still out on this one!"

moultrie trail cam,September 20, 2009
By wantyfrom central wi
"really like the camera!!! only 2 things that i don't like but definitely WOULDN'T stop me from getting another one is the strap that goes around the tree and brackets aren't the greatest, and the chip is a little tricky to get to. Otherwise i love the camera and it's nothing to complain about. Also, IR takes pretty far pics at night"

moultrie 4.0,September 17, 2009
By yadkinfarmfrom Yadkin, NC
"i have had a few different cameras and have had none to compare with this one....the battery life is the best i have ever seen. i have had this camera over a while now and prob. had the camera on a tree for a total of 8 weeks. still 75 % life left. the battery life is better on this camera than any recharge battery i have had. the camera will take black and white pics at night and color in the day...just be aware that pics taken in shaded woods will also be black and white but the ir flash works great...the only complaint i have about this camera is that i didnt buy more of them......this is a must buy!!"

not worth the money,September 16, 2009
By TURKEYMANSCfrom South Carolina
"camera works ok and pictures are good when you get them....but the trigger speed is very slow and it makes a clicking noice that is very noticable when the lense changes. i would buy an old moultrie d-40 over this camera better camera for $100 cheaper. If you want the best go with reconyx. It is the best camera ive ever owned."

the good and the bad,September 10, 2009
By PeperesCabinfrom weare, nh
"i have used this product for about 2 weeks. some pros and cons
pros. takes picture quickly, price, ir flash, takes sd card.
cons. when in the woods not bright enough to take color pics only black and white, night pics good but night video grainy, only 5 sec. video clips at night,
overall it works, got pics. of animals passing by.
recommend to a friend i say no, just to see what else is better out there. there is better cams out there and there are worse cams.
this falls in the middle if you get it it will do its job but you'll say i wish it did this or it cant do that."

try another one,September 2, 2009

"I have owned (2) of the I40s. The first one lasted about 3 weeks then all of the pictures were solid black. Cabelas exchanged it with no hassels. They have great customer service. The camera did take good pictures when it worked. I used the second one about one week last fall. Went to use it this year and the controls lock up intermittenly. It was still under warrenty so I shipped it back to Moultrie. They are estimating a 3+ week time before they ship it back. So much for pre-season scouting. The camera is easy to use and set up. I don't care for the accsss to the memory card. You have to remove the battery cover to access. Seams they could have put the card in the front with the controls. The seals on the front cover and battery cover could also be better. It not too hard to knock the seals out of place especially when trying to remove the memory card in the field. Based on other reviews, I am guessing I have just had bad luck.
I have a D40 which is much cheaper and I actually like it better. The pictures seem as good and the controls and acess to the memory card are layed out better. I have had it for 2 years with no issues. Just wish it was IR. I will likely try another brand of IR camera since the I50 & I60 are layed out similar to the I40."

Great camera,August 31, 2009
By johnson1519from Oregon
"I put my camera out for three weeks, but it got knocked off the tree after two weeks. Maybe the strap brackets could be a little stronger. Both broke off, but I suppose if a bear messes with it, something is bound to break. As for picture quality, I thought the daytime pictures looked great. Night pictures looked good for infrared photos. After three weeks my battery life was still 92%. If I buy another trail cam I will buy another one of these Moultries."

Broke,August 25, 2009
By honkerattackerfrom Wisconsin
"This review sounds like all the negative ones on here that I should of read before purchasing this camera. I used it for just about 4 months last year and than at the end of season, the LCD didn't turn on so I figured the batteries were dead. Brought it home and put it on the shelf and when I went to use it this fall, the LCD screen didn't work with new batteries. The LCD screen sounds like it has given many people problems on here. This camera was never abused. Unfortuantly, I didn't investigate it until the one year warranty was up. I even had built a special rain guard for it to help prevent things from breaking, but evidently, the LCD is just that sensitive to humidity. Do not buy. Head the warnings of everyone else so you don't waste your money as I did."

Nice Pics,August 25, 2009

"Fairly easy to use. Tough to get SD card in and out without a needle nose pliers or something that will be thinner than your fingers to grasp the card. Pictures were of good quality. A little awkward to get camera angle set up. Seemed to trigger OK. Hard to find a way to lock on without buying an optional lock box to hold unit."

By rrh49from Guttenberg, IA
"Easy to adjust and to add a new camera card. Easy to erase old images on camera card and then set to take pictures again. Takes wonderful pictures, and the IR doesn't spook any of the animals. This is the second one that I purchased, had another brand but that was not easy to operate at all. I put new batteries in the start of the season and they last all season. Presently getting approx. 200 pictures per week and it will last for 4 months."

Moultrie 4Mp IR Trail Camera,August 17, 2009
By Skimmerfrom Fiordland, New Zealand
"I have used several of thes cameras now and have found them to be excellent value. The batteries last very well and they are very reliable. I have also used Bushnell sentry and scout model cameras and found that they have a tendency to switch off for no apparent reason at times, and trigger of easily with sun changes or vegetation movement. The Moutrie units I have used are far superior and work well in wet and cold conditions. The only fault in design is that the SD card is difficult to access and the strap mounting is weak and prone to break. Using a bracket mount secured to the screw sockets on the camera is worthwhile. I've had a local engineer make up some good ones although you can buy several different types through Cabela's. Also, good service from Cabela's - the cameras have arrived very quickly, even though I live on the other side of the Pacific."
