DESIGN DEFECT IN THE LACROSSE UNIT,April 23, 2009

"I asked for this unit because I was impressed by the catalogue description. It does work great BUT under certain weather conditions, the temperature can be inflated by as much as 7 degrees.
Last January, the real outdoor temperature was 20 degrees yet the remote sensor said it was 26. I monitored the temps for several days and noticed nearly 100% accuracy from sundown to sunup. However, as the days progressed, the temperature on the remote would increase faster than the temperature on a known to be accurate outdoor thermometer. Around 1-2 PM, the temperature differential would, daily, be between 5 and 7 degrees.
As it turned out, the differential seemed to caused by reflected sunlight. Once the snow melted, the differential decreased to between 1 and 2 degrees in the early afternoon.
The remote was placed on the north side of my house away from any heat sources."

"This thing is great. I don't have to wait for the local news to come on, or check the weather on the internet. So far it has been more accurate than both. The batteries have lasted well in below freezing temps for 2 months. Set-up is easy as long as you follow the directions. Would definately recommend to anyone."

"This station took no set up, it basically did it all automatically. It has quickly become a most used tool. I recommend that you not try to locate the reading screen immediately, move it around the house, after a while it will find its best location for you. The remote sensor can be a fair distance away and still work well."

"I have it mounted on my wall right in front of my desk. Its very accurate and easy to read, but pretty small (about the size of a VHS tape). Its fun to watch the weather change and to know specifics. The weather forecaster isnt very accurate though. It would be nice if it had a wind gauge too."

"I bought two La Crosse weather stations. The first did not work properly because it did not register the outside weather on the inside receiver. I returned that item, and, thinking I had probably got a lemon, I asked to exchange it for the same model. When the second one arrived it had the same problem as the first so I had to return it for a refund. As far as I am concerned these La Crosse Weather stations are junk and should be taken off the market."

"Currently stationed in Afghanistan where the hottest temperatures are recorded for the country. Wanted a weather station to tell me temperature and humidty that was accurate. I didn't need a full blown weather station with wind direstion/speed and rain amounts as I'm not making forcasts. Just need to know how stupid hot it gets around here. So far it's read 116 deg F in the shade and it's not even summer yet, it's still spring. Bottom line, I've been happy with it's performance and ease of operation. The display is set up logically and is easy to read/understand. The distance between the station and remote is about three feet. But that signal has to travel through a two foot, reinforced concrete wall. No problems. Purchasing this item through Cabella's web site was an ease and I will be doing business with them again."

"Station was easy to set up. The transmitter needs to be in a semi protected place away from direct rain contact, which makes it challenging to find a good location. Measurements of temp, humidity, pressure readings are very accurate. The forcaster is not always accurate. Overall a good product."

"I bought this product in early January. I have been pleased with it so far. The instructions say not to let the remote transmitter get into the rain, etc. Mine was in two heavy rainshowers before I got it installed in a covered area. The rain did not affect it at all. While it might not take years of use in direct weather, it certainly seems to be water resistant. It does have a rubber gasket around the inside of the battery compartment to resist water. The remote transmitter is a tenth of a degree different from what the inside station reads, but overall all of the information seems to be very accurate. Don't be fooled by the forecast display telling you it will be raining, sunny, etc. It is not telling you what the weather is at that moment in time. It is a forecast based on which way the barometric pressure is trending. It is letting you know that the weather will improve or get worse, not that it will be literaly be raining or shining. My transmitter is placed about 15' from the base station transmitting through an exterior wall. I haven't changed the batteries after two months, so I know they last at least that long."

"This is a wonderful piece of equipment. It displays the 12 hour forcast and the lowest night time temps. The lowest night time temps are usually within one or two degrees of actual temp. The forcasts have been right on.
My only negative remark is that the outside unit must be protected from rain, snow and full sun. It is hard to find a place to give an good reading with these restrictions.
Overall, however, it is a wonderful unit."
