"Must have device for serious reloaders. Measure exactly where your bullet should sit and allow for bullet jump or to place at no jump with bullets from Berger. Takes guess work right out. Only problem is some bolt actions such as Ruger 77 has a catch that can make removal of L-n-L difficult."

"I have used Hornady OAL gauge [formerly Stoney Point] in both the curved and straight OAL Gauges, and I cannot fault the tool for such an important job. Whenever I have a new gun to load I always check the cartridge OAL on every type of projectile that I shoot. I find the amunition is more accurate after adjusting each projectile to have a 0.020" thou of an inch just off the rifling or lands in my firearms. I then test fire at a range for accuracy with several rounds loaded at different adjustments eg from 0.020" through to 0.050 thou 0.020" to 0.050". You should check and adjust carefully as your rifle/s can be different to mine and may need different specifications. A great and accurate product this is well recomended for accuracy Regards Cruizinoz"

"The OAL is a great tool and should be added to all reloaders inventory. However, I have found out two things the hard way. First, you need only purchase the curved gauge as it will work in both semis and bolts. The second is that the mag in the rifle is the determining factor for the seating in a lot of cases. I.e., my 22-250 should seat at 2.475" according to the gauge (and indeed put them through the same hole at 100)when loaded from the breech. My rifle mag will only accomodate 2.410" Not the fault of the gauge, but wanted to make all aware B4 purchase. Gauge is great give it a five, easy to use and measure depth seating."

"This works but is a pain to use. Bullet is so loose in case it falls out etc.. Took awhile to get it figured out. Plastic sliding rod should be metal, too flimsy. This is not the quality product I expect from Hornady but at this cheap price I guess its ok. I only would recommend this if your on a tight budget."

"I think the product is great. The only thing I don't like is that the slide that you lock down is plastic. I am reasonably sure that it will last but it could have maybe been a different material.
It is much quicker than smoking the bullet a bunch of times. Also more accurate as I have found that some of my former numbers were off by as much as 25 thousandths."

"The curved O.A.L. length gauge is worth its weight in gold to any reloader that wants all of their shots to touch in a five shot group. It's just a matter of making the bullet snug in the throat of your firearm. With all firearms being slightly different this will give you the exact specs. for your gun. Great tool to add to any reload bench."

"This is a very fickle apparatus. Two of the modified cases did not fit my chambers in factory rifles and the instructions say do not resize the modified case so you have to send more money to the manufacturer and your own fired cases to have one made.
I could not even close the bolt with the modified case.
You are better off just seating the bullet of one of your own reloads until the bolt will close and take that measurement.
With this set up there is no way to tell if you case is seated all the way in the chamber."

"The Hornady Lock-N-Load OAL Gauge is easy to use. Used as instructed and in conjunction with the special cartridge brass (sold separately) enables one to produce precise OAL cartridges. The construction is adequate although as some others have mentioned the push rod is plastic and somewhat delicate. Overall, a product that delivers as advertised."
