Perfect unit for beginners or experienced reloader,November 3, 2009

"I purchased the Lee Classic Turret Press about a month ago, and have already loaded over a thousand rounds in seven different calibers without a single hickup. I can easily load 200 rounds per hour for handgun cartridges. Rifle takes a little more time and attention to detail however. The powder measure that comes with this kit will not handle the volume of powder that a rifle round requires, but it is so consistent that I have been able to make consistent loads by double-pumping the handle for each round. Of course I measure each load for the rifle calibers, but it has worked perfectly so far. To save time, I upgraded to a digital scale. I am considering purchasing the double-disk upgrade for the powder measure to make life easier when loading rifle calibers.
I did a lot of research before deciding on this Lee press. In the end, I couldn't be any happier with my decision. The quick change turrets make switching to a different caliber a breeze. I would strongly recommend this press and in particular, this entire kit to a friend. It's a great value!"

"Cons: The instructions read and look like they were written in 1944 by a crochety old guy with more imortant things to do. Watching every video on the LEE website is a must to learn how to set this press up.
Pros: Everything else. I love this kit. I had never reloaded before, and this kit got me going.

"Works good for my purposes. I reload .223 on it right now and will be reloading .45 ACP soon. The press is awesome, I use it as a single stage most of the time but like the fact that all I have to do is turn the turret to change dies instead of removing and replacing them like on a real single stage. My only kit complaints are that the included priming system is a pain to use. I went with a hand held lee priming system because it is easier to use and I can prime cases on the sofa. Also, the beam scale was way too tedious to use. I got a lyman digital scale to speed things up. The included powder measure kit (auto disk) will not work out of the box with .223. I picked up the Lee Perfect Powder Measure for $25 or so and it works great with ball powders.
All in all, I would have bought the press and got the powder measure, scale and priming system seperately if I had it to do over again. But as I said, the press is great and the Auto Disk will work with the .45 ACP dies I will be getting soon........."

"I bought the Classic press and have been very happpy with it. The Lee press is easy to set up, easy to use, and I have set mine up to change calibers in just seconds.
The long lever arm makes easy work of reloading larger calibers or rifle rounds.
I have now loaded over 750 rounds with mine and would recommend this press to anyone.
There are faster presses on the market, but none for this price."

"Excellant Package for new and just starting out. In fact, I like this package better than some of the Kits Lee already offers, but everyone has different needs. For me, I wanted something to reload 9mm that wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. The Classic Press turns out high quality ,accurate, ammo. I can turn out 100-200 an hr. and the price is right. "The kit arrived quickly which was great. The over all quality is excellent I would have given it 5 stars if the direction were better I am a beginner and I had a haard time with set up. I did figure it out after a little trial and error. "This is a very good press. Very well build. Worked right out of the box. Added my dies and started cranking out rounds. You won't believe the quality you are getting for the cost of this press. I recommend you get some extra replacement turrets so you can leave the dies in them. Makes it easier to switch to reloading other calibers as your die adjustments will remain constant that way."

"this kit is the first press i've had, but its great and i can't honestly say i think i'll need another. first, the turret idea is great. some people have said that there is too much play between the turret and the head, but as long as you make sure to press the handle firmly down, it always tilts the exact same (maybe 1/32" on mine). all the bullets come out the same length and it causes no issues. the press is solid and you really can change calibers in just a few seconds. i love it. second, the lee powder scale. kind of in the middle of the road on this scale, this is why i rated it 4 stars. it works in the fact that it weighs the powder, but its difficult to read very accurately (maybe accurate to .2 or .3 grains). it works ok for a very low budget starter scale, but i will upgrade soon. third, the powder measure, very very handy for loading pistol rounds. acuurate enough for when all i need is function. using this powder measure is very quick, i can probably load 150 to 200 rounds an hourusing it. if i were not loading for match grade accuracy, just hunting rounds, this would be fine for rifle loads. its not accurate or precise enough for match accuracy, because the powder measure is volume based, and the powder density neccessarily has some fluctuation to it, your loads may come out .2 to .3 grains different over the course of a batch. not horrible, but by no means "perfect" the other issue i take with the perfect powder measure is the size of the adjustments from one cavity to the next. you are stuck in what that cc change is, which could be .1 grain, or could be .7 grain, depending on what you are adjusting to and from. finally, the safety prime. what an ingenious little system. i love this, very simple, easy to use, and handy. it takes just a bit of getting used to how to use it, but once you get it figured out you can really fly. i love it. i will say though, the last 2 or 3 primers are tricky to get out. its only because there isn't enough weight pushing the last primers down into the dispenser mechanism, and simply solved by just tapping on the feed tube. Overall, i will defintely continue using this kit, and i will recomend this to others. good starter kit"

"This lee press is the best thing since slice bread.I was a little hesentent about this press because of the price and some of my friends said you get what you pay for in buying reloading equiment.Boy was that nothing but hot air because this lee classic turrurt press is the bomb and in my opinon this is as good as it gets. "Have reloaded 200 rounds without a mishap. Have fired 50 rounds through my Kimber 1911 without a jam. Press seems very sturdy with plenty of leverage directed to loading stages. one small problem I haven't figured out yet is the powder measure touches primer feed when rotating. I'm sure Cabelas will have an easy fix. Great price!"

"I am a new comer to the world of ammo reloading so do not expect an expert's opinion. I found the classic loader to be fairly easy to set up and run. I know that others complain about droped primers from the auto primer but I tend to drop more often when I try to load the primers by hand. The primer lever and mount should be cleaned often to help reduce primer related issues but this would be true with any systen I have looked at. I did have some issues loading .45 ACP rounds such as the bullet not seating properly and damaging the case during the seating part of the operation but I got around this by holding the bullet until it entered the die. One should definitely verify the powder weight and volume on the drop system as I found that the suggested disk volumn did not match the minimum powder weight recommendations when using the TiteGroup powder. On that note, the scale takes getting used to but seems to be fairly acurate just make sure that the lock is pressed in completly when setting the scale to measure a predetermined weight. All in all I think that this system is a really good investiment for a first time reloader."

"I would have liked to have had a set of 'complete' setup instruction/manual or webpage for the entire kit, as you have to do a bit of creative discovery with the individual piece instruction sets. That and the details of the actual functioning of the auto prime and auto charging system seemed a bit lacking (not deficient, just not real granular). However, once I got that figured out, I have been quite pleased with the design of the system. (In the limited time I have used the press I have resized 500 handgun cases and produced about 50 complete cartridges; functionally, the system works well). I cannot comment on the rifle case loading aspect, as I have not used the press for that as of yet. Bang for the buck/Value, I don't see ANY other manufacturer coming close.
I was a bit disappointed with the 'plastic' pieces of the 'auto prime' and powder charging hopper, but for the price they are a great buy. Personally I would have spent more for a better quality material, but the design and VALUE are so far, IMPRESSIVE.
4 stars because of the plastic and instruction issue(s), 5 stars for DESIGN quality. I would give it 4.5 stars overall.
In my limited experience reloading, I really do think Lee makes some fantastic products!!"

"I just loaded up my first 50 rnds or 45 Colt and I must say the process went much smoother than I first thought. It is a little misleading to tell customers that with this kit all you need is a set of dies and components and you are ready to go. The truth is, if you are new at this, you also will need a caliper, a good reloading manual, and a few other odds and ends. That being said, the set up worked great once I got it up and running. This is the first time I have reloaded and I had cranked out 50 rnds in no time (it did take me a while because I had a hard time trusting the auto powder measure since, set up the way the manual explains, it was giving me one step heavier loads than the chart suggests and I checked every other load to make sure i had the right charge by weight). Like others suggest, I am also planning on buying the double disk kit for the powder measure to more accurately measure. I haven't shot anything yet, so hopefully I don't blow my gun up, but so far, so good."

"I bought a lee pro 1000 press just before christmas and I was not happy with it at all to many problems, so I called lee and talked to a gentleman by the name of Pat. He is a great guy Pat said he would replace the pro 1000 with the lee clasic turret press in which he did. It was easy to set up and in no time I had cranked out 250 perfict rounds of 357 mag. You can't make a mistake with this press, everything is right in front of you so you can see what is going on, and if you have to you can index the turret all the way around with no problems. Just make sure you get the riser and the primer feeder if you want speed in which you can do. If you are looking for a great loader this is the one for you, you can't go wrong it's the best.
