Cabela's GORE-TEX® Guidewear® Insulated Parka - Re,November 9, 2009
By Jerrryfrom North Dakota
"I am extremely happy with this product. I have worn it on cold weather fishing trips and it does keep you warm. I especially like the ease of working the zippers without all of the velcro that was on your prior Guidewear being in the way. Easy to get on and off."

Guidewear parka & bibs,March 23, 2009
By NewEnglandDogsfrom NH
"This is my second set of guidewear insulated gear. I have pants & a bomber jacket. I just bought bibs & a parka. It has kept me warm and dry running dogs in the worst weather imaginable on the East coast. Why didn't I buy this gear 5 years ago?"

Spendy..but well made,March 9, 2009
By langdonlakefrom Pendleton OR
"This is the second coat I have bought in this model. Previous coat lasted for 3 years until the zipper went out on me. I used the last coat very hard...usually 6 months out of the year (5 days a week)up in the snow. The newer model seems to be just as tough and durable. I would recommend that the zipper is not so tight...as it takes some breaking in to initially get the zipper started and taking off as well. Also...the zipper handle is impossible to get started with gloves on...had to add a a leather thong on the end. Extra pockets added are nice..although I prefer the bellows type. 2 pockets on each side of the chest seems like overkill to me.Pocket in the back for gloves or a stocking cap is a very nice upgrade. Coat has kept me warm in some pretty hard snow storms and does ok with rain....never used it in a down pour though...so can't say if it is 100% waterproof."

Zipper extension,December 30, 2008
By 48Stevefrom Lake Fork, Alba, Tx.
"This is a good product.... My only complaint is getting the zipper started at the bottom of the Parka... Not much to work with. Needs to be more accessible. The bibs were fine. The Guidewear Bag "top" opening is awkward to use... One large opening would have been better than two smaller ones..
Ive worn this twice on 32 degree days with wind and it kept me warm and dry.."

Cabela's GORE-TEX® Guidewear® Insulated Parka,June 24, 2008
By CZBratSDfrom San Diego
"This Jacket is fantastic! A week or so after receiving it, I tested it fishing 20 -30 nm offshore Sitka, Alaska. It handled and shed the wind whipped salt spray and rain like a well-oiled duck's feathers. Only 4 stars, however, as the Jacket's Zipper takes 5 to 10 minutes to try to zip up. A person could never get this jacket zipped up in cold or foul weather or in an Emergency with cold or frozen hands. It was necessary to begin zipping the jacket before pulling it on over head--even that was tough. The Zipper is too tiny, although it appears to be that way to seal the system's internal linking seals tightly shut."

"Read the other reviews and save your money. Parka is extreamly stiff. The zipper is way to small. I had a hard time trying to put the bottom of the zipper together, and I was in my house. I returned mine the next day."

great guidewear,May 13, 2008
By sel0831from duluth, mn
"i purchased a set of guidewear insulated bibs and a parka last year for opening fishing in northern minnesota. last year it was 70 degrees, so i was unable to use them. this year it was about forty degrees and raining and snowing. this was a true test of these products. i sat in the inclimate weather for three or four hours. at no time was i ever remotely close to being cold. i had no problem with any of the zippers or the velcro seams. the huge pockets were great for storing extra gloves, hats and even my depth finders. i have worn many other things trying to stay warm in these conditions and i have never been warmer. i would recommend these products to anyone who is looking to stay warm and dry in the worst mother nature can throw at you. thank you for making such wonderful raingear. i look forward to many warm weekends of fishing in the future."

Nice parka, BUT....,February 20, 2008
By Nemoskifrom Upper Peninsula, Michigan
"the front zipper is pathetic. It is very difficult to zip this parka up whether you are indoors or outdoors. Cabela's could definately do better in this department. I would recommend this product to a friend, but not without telling them to expect difficulty zipping it up. It's not that big of a deal for me, because I leave my parka zipped up most of the time, but for someone who is always unzipping, they would not be happy with this product. In regard to warmth and comfort, I have never had a better parka. I feel like I have my ice shack/wind break attached right to my back, which makes me much more versatile while ice fishing. Also, the pockets create great storage for tackle and all of the other accessories that I carry for ice fishing."

Gore Tex Guideware,February 19, 2008
By dansontwofrom Charlotte North Carolina
"With out question Guideware is the final word in outdoor wear. I just purchased my second Guidewear jacket. No, the first one is not worn out after ten years of use. It is still in top shape and does a fine job keeping me dry. This new Guidewear jacket is insulated for the coldest winter days. Guidewear is the final word in outdoor wear and the ultimate word in product value. Now Guideware has got me covered year around."

Parker,January 7, 2008
By Skylercurbubfrom Bellevue, Wa.
"The stiffness of the garment was unexpected. The gortex repells rain very well, and the liner is a good addition for warmth, however the coat outside material is so stiff, it almost stands up by itself. The stiffness also effects the area around the zipper. It is very difficult to match the zipper parts, making zipping very difficult. Color is excellent. (red/black) Lots of very useful pockets which are well placed on the jacket."

Should have listened . . .,January 5, 2008
By Binkelmanfrom Central Minnesota
"As an owner of several Guidewear parkas in the past (which I loved), I was amazed by the poor quality and microscopic size of the zipper on this garmet. It was nearly impossible to zip with gloves on or off outside (especially in cold weather), but it was no easier inside either. Recommend bringing along a tweazers for gripping the zipper.
This is a very warm and quality stitched parka that is incredibly waterproof, don't get me wrong, but it runs extremely small, and is so rigid that that it feels like you're wearing a cardboard box.
Sure hope for everyone's sake that Cabela's makes some changes on this item."

Great Parka, Poor Zipper,October 23, 2007
By MNTrollingfrom Northern Minnesota
"The Cabela's GORE-TEX Guidewear Insulated Parka is great in many ways, and poor in one, albeit a critical one. Let me start with the positives. The parka keeps you warm in very cold and windy conditions. It also keeps you dry no matter how hard the rain or snow falls. It has plenty of pockets for storage, and they're big enough to hold bulky insulated gloves, a wool cap, tackle or other equipment. The only downside to this parka is the tiny, undersized front/main zipper. I own an older pair of Guidewear bibs, and the zipper is easily twice as big as on this parka. When your fingers are warm and dry, zipping up this parka is a challenge. When your fingers are wet and cold, it's almost impossible to zip it up. If Cabela's ever updates this product, the only thing they need to fix is the front/main zipper. Make it bigger, and this would rate a full five stars."

Top quality, but..........,March 28, 2007
By HonestTomfrom Northeaster PA. Upstate NY & N Eng. weather here.
"The last four or five winter parkas I've purchased have all been Cabela's with Gore-Tex and Thinnsulate. I don't think you can beat the combination. Since I normally wear a parka for 4 or 5 years before looking for a replacement, my relationship with Cabela's goes back several years. The quality of the product is always there: excellent materials and tailoring. However, just when they come up with a feature I really like, in many cases it seems to be missing in the newest generation. For example: the parka I had purchased just before this had a detachable hood, which meant it was not integrated with the collar. When I zipped the jacket up all the way I had what was essentially a turtle neck collar, right up to my chin; a feature I won't be without, now. But, the hood lay flat on my shoulders and back when I wasn't wearing it up on my head. After I sent the parka out to be cleaned last year, the hood, somehow or other, disappeared - either I lost track or the cleaner did. I notice a big difference in warmth around my shoulders and upper back without the hood lying there. I really miss it. With the newest version, the hood and collar are integrated, which means if I pull the zipper all the way up I have this annoying bulk at the back of my neck and head. Also, while the velcro cuff closures are, I'm sure, a way to keep costs down, it only takes a year or two before the loop side of the combination wears out. I had a tailor install new ones, but they wear out as well, ususally about 3/4 of the way through the winter. I finally got smart and bought metal snap closures at the frabric store and installed them myself. I will still go back to Cabela's the next time I'm in the market for a winter parka, but I hope there are no more disappointing surprises."

Awesome Parka,March 27, 2007
By northernfisherfrom Northern Minnesota
"This is simply an awesome parka, best wet and cold weather parka on the market bar none. This was purchased primarily for cold weather fishing, but will be used all winter long in Northern Minnesota where it can reach -60 degress F. Yes, that is 92 degrees below freezing on the F scale. Fabric is super tough, zippers are great, lots of pockets, Fit and Finish are superb. This will become your best friend in cold and wet conditions.
But get yours before they are gone, because the new Parka's are re-designed, and are not the same! These are the last of the really good ones!"
