knife-making knowledge going into each. Blades are cut from the same kind of high-carbon steel as old
circular sawmill blades, ground on a water-cooled wheel to preserve the natural tempers gained as the
blades age, then jeweled to a lasting finish. 3/4" tang. Genuine stag handles are unique and no two are
alike. As beautiful as the animal they came from. Plus, we've added a brass pin through the handle of the
two large sizes. Hoof print hand-scrimshawed on hunting knife butt cap. Scabbard is handmade from

"I have had my skinner for many years when cabelas first put it out I got a stage handle buck knife for much more the edge on a buck makes you not want to use it just keep it clean but not for the skinner I am never with out it in the woods or around town this is the way they made knifes a long time ago the right way. I use all kinds of knifes as a chef for the past 25 years so I do know a good knife and what it is used for It will get dark with use thats the way high carbon knifes are keeeping it cleaned and put some oil on it from time to time you will have it for a lifetime ."

"I added the 8" Bowie to an on-line order of other items for will-call delivery at the Cabela’s in my state. All aspects of the knife are fine except for the bizarre defacing of the blade with a small grinder of some sort. I presume this is what the description means by “jeweling.” Unfortunately this makes the knife look like it came from a flea market. My attempt to return the knife at the store was met with the usual less-than-satisfactory reaction.
So, I keep it in my gun safe. It makes a fine tool for cutting up cardboard boxes."

"Just received my Silver Stag Knife and the quality of the craftsmanship exceeded all expectations. I got the 4.5" Skinner and it is well-balanced, quite sharp for out of the box, and a work of art. The work on the antler handle just cannot be appreciated from the pictures in the catalogue. Icing on the cake, the quality of the sheath is very good (only thing that could have made it better would be a little thicker leather). This is a great cowboy knife and will definitely find use on my next deer hunt. If you like well-made knives you'll like this one."

"Rating this product is difficult for me. The knife is stunningly beautiful and well crafted. I suspect that the other knives offered for sale by this manufacturer are almost without peer. The problem I have, is that while this is a beautiful, and very sharp knife, with a very attractive and hard blade, it is NOT a fillet knife. It LOOKS like a fillet knife, but the blade is much too thick and stiff to actuall BE a fillet knife. I have no intention of returning it, because it is such a beautiful knife, but there is virtually zero chance of it ever being my knife of choice for filleting. The steel used for the blade is entirely inconsistent with the function of a fillet knife. Too bad. I would, however, have no hesitation about ordering the other knives in this series, had I a use for them. As this review is for only one knife out of the several offered by this manufacturer, and the particular knife I'm reviewing is not suitable for it's intended purpose, I cannot give it the high rating I would like to."

"Overall I like the set. The leather sheath is a bid big but looks nice. The skinning knife with the gut hook is alot smaller than it looks in the picture and was very dull. I have sharpened it, but for some reason it still isnt as sharp as my other knifes. I just cant get a good edge on it. The bowie knife is very nice, and that one was sharp. The blades do seem a little thin. I will be using this set this hunting season, lets hope they work out. I would rate this more of a 3 1/2 than a 4, but as far as looks go its a 4 1/2."

"Its a very pretty knife, however I dont think its as durable as knives offered by some other knifes available in the same price range. The blade is very thin and I dont know if it will hold up. The sheath is also too large for practical use on a belt. The sheth does not need to be as large and fancy as it it. Over all it seems to be designed as a show knife and not so much as a "Field Bowie.""

"got a set of these for my dad recently for him to use for deer season. these things look cheap with very thin weak blades and poor quality steel. granted one knife held up ok through one deer while the other is a waste of sheath space. the only decent feature aside from the attractive sheath, the handles were shaped well for the blades used."
