"Finally sold my old Cannons that were made in Muskegon Mi. and bought new ones. There is no way I can get used to dealing with these new downriggers. Why couldn't they make them easy to use like the old ones.? The switch is very jumpy . I find them impossible to control and I've used Cannon's for many years. I would not make the same decision to buy these mag 10's again."

"I read the reviews by those that don't know how to operate these units. I agree, they have a lot of torque that imparts a lot of force - bad for a week gunnel, and they are way fast...
They however are totally controllable,,, you just have to read the directions. If you want to raise the ball 1 foot, lift the lift lever (hold on to it the whole time), watch the counter, and push down for one second when you want to stop, or until the unit starts to lower the ball. Let go of the lever and all is good.
It takes a little getting used too or I would have given it 5 stars. A momentary up switch would be a great addition."

"I'm scared to death that win I try to lift motors up 20' I will break the side of my boat. the motors are way to jerkey and need to be so you can controll then alot easier. Cannon needs a better swicth for these units"

"herky jerky motion. If this downrigger bucks any harder it's going to rip the bolts out of the gunnels. I phoned a Cannon service center in new York and he says nothing can be done because the motor is made in Asia some place, What happend?? I used to have Cannon's i liked but I'd never buy another one."

"I bought 2 of these new units thinking I'd be blown away by the performance, compared to the Big jons and Walker's I have on my other boats. They are faster than the big jon's , but I believe my Walker's perform faster, and are the easiest of all 3 to use. I'm keeping them , but when I have to buy for the next boat, I'll buy Walkers,. They give me the most features for the money."

"We watch the electronics for slight bottom changes and fish the edges and structure of slopes and humps. We have the need to lift the balls frequently to keep the balls off the bottom. I am here to tell you that Cannon has produced a "Monster" and should do a recall with these uncontrollable pieces of junk.
The Mag 10 is made to go down to a specific depth and return to the surface at high speed. If you try to lift the weight 10' off the bottom this wild monster jerks the weight all the way to the top. If becomes impossible to "feather" the switch and people who try if start cussing it the first time..... their is no neutral on these bucking broncos. I need to see if I can install some type of monetary switch to control these "Monsters" I have been lifting the weight about 10' and then jerking the electrical plugs apart to stop the weights........ isn't that a terrible to control an expensive piece of equipment."

"I ordered and recieved two cannon mag 10s. The units installed easily and and are super fast. The first time out this season the units worked well without any problems. With the booms extended the weight retriever is a must. The only draw back that I would note is that with the swivel base and quick draw rod holders there is some slop and movement in these components until all are under load with a weight and rod. If the unit was a little tighter package I would have rated it 5 stars."
