Finally a radio that works,April 13, 2009

"I was tired of using the other toys in the form of a walkie talkie. So I opted to spend a little more money on the Cobra 425, and glad I did. The gmrs worked great on my recent turkey hunting trip with my wife to Kansas. The units worked well out to 2 miles on medium power through hills and woods. Also the batteries didn't need charging the whole week. Can't wait to use them in Alaska when I am duck hunting in the Bearing Sea."

"It's a little big, but it has a great range and the sound is crystal clear. My husband and I use them when hiking in the woods. We end up miles apart, over ridges, ect. We can keep in touch over far greater distances than with any other hand held radios we've used. The size doesn't bother my husband at all, but it seems a little big for me."

"Bought this to use both on the boat and with the 4 wheelers, I am a bit disappointed with the range on flat land, over 3 miles the radio fell off fast. The PTT switch is very stiff and hard to use. However the battery pack lasted 3 days with moderate useage. All in all not a bad radio."

"Radio range has been exceptional for a handheld. The VHF/GMRS/weather capabilities are extremely convenient to have in one radio. The battery life has far exceeded that stated within the product manual. Most of the use has been in extreme cold temperatures and snow conditions, and the radio has performed flawlessly. It's been dropped in the snow, on the ground, out in the rain, and in 0 deg F temperatures with zero issues. It is a little bigger than some other hand held radios, but the extra features, range and battery life far outway the slightly larger size."

"This radio really deserves five stars but the first one I received was defective so I had to knock the rating down a bit. Cabela's great customer service sent the second one UPS overnight as I needed it for an upcoming trip. It functioned flawlessly. Compact size. Crisp, clear audio. Great range on the water, (8 miles at least), dual transceiver frequencies, weather band, and all the other bells and whistles described in the ad. Even though the first one I received was defective, I'd recommend this radio to anyone looking for a reasonably priced, compact, powerful, vhf/gmrs radio. It'll be with me whenever I'm on the ocean as a trusted backup to my primary 25 watt vhf radio."

"This radio is very good. I use it mostly on the water with The US Coast Guard that I belongs to. Everyone likes it. It is rechargable and able to use regular batteries. As for those that use these types of radio's knows that its not the out put power, infact, with only 1/2 watt, you can talk to the moon but it is the features that is very good. "The Cobra 425 is a wonderful radio. It comes with a charger for both an electric outlit and a cigarette lighter. 6 couples held a little "Fishing Derby". We all were to have radios so we could talk and keep track of each other on Whiskeytown Lake in CA. We didn't have a radio so I ordered this product. The reception was great no matter where the other boats were on the lake. It was easy to use. It stayed charged for the 5 days we fished...still is holding a charge. And people could hear us very clearly when I spoke. I recommended it to another fishing buddy and I think he is going to buy one so we can communicate when we fish together on other CA lakes."
