"Bought this hat along with the tru-spec poncho. This hat had good reviews, but don't be fooled. The first morning I used it I was hunting in light rain during turkey season. The hat repelled water for about 30 minutes and then started absorbing moisture inside and out. I sprayed it with some waterproofing and am going to try it one more time. If it does it again its going straight back to cabelas."

"Overall, this is a great rain hat. It is larger than a traditional boonie, not quite Kentucky Derby large, but close. The brim is almost twice as wide, and it has another cord that runs around the dome portion of the hat. This works well for keeping the hat in place when you don't want to use the full chin strap. However, the cord is extra long and has a bow tied in it! I cut it off and replaced it with a pull cord stop, like the kind you find on the waist string of better quality sweat pants. No one seeing this hat will mistake it for a "regular" issued item. That said, if you hate rain hoods (and their associated lack of peripheral vision) like I do, this hat works great for hiking, camping, or just working outside in the rain."

WITH A THIN PLATIC HELMUT INNER QUILTED THIN LINER AVAILABLE SEPERATELY AND ITS NICE WIDE BRIM IT HAS TO BE A PLUS IN A COLD SOAKING RAIN BUT PERHAPS I SUPPOSE IT CAN BE WORN ALONE BUT MAY NOT HAVE THE BEST INSULATING FACTORS WHEN WORN ALONE IN THAT CASE MAY WANT TO CONSIDER THE GORTEX BOONIE FOR AROUND $29 INSTEAD,? "This hat is SWEET! I have military spec. boonie hats of all different kinds of material like wool, cotton and wolfskin. This H2O boonie is the best one of them all. The nice wide brim stays flat and can actually be formed to style and will keep its form even in rain. The water beads up and sheds far off the shoulder and back...not down your neck. The fit is perfect and adjustable. I have the black hat to match the interior of my groundblind but I have discovered that animals have a difficult time noticing any movment even in the shadows of the brush. I bought another identical hat just in case something ever happened to this one. It has become a critical piece of my equipage."
