"a good reel, there is a plastic piece below the spool that is made out of what seems to be low quality plastic. if u tend to fish pass an hour of the surf this reel would make your arms ache from its weight. smooth retrieving and pretty solid overall above average, i wish they had these a bit lighter"

Very weak reel,

"This reel is very weak for salt water (which is why i got it in the first place) the spool is attached so far from the body itself that when you start reeling in a big fish you feel it is about to crack
I got the biggest of the bunch thinking it would help me jig or slow troll for needle fish, Trust me when I say that this reel wont cut it for you event for such light weight fish
Trust me if you want a reel for salt water fishing which would be good enough for bointa, needle fish or similar fish go for another reel id suggest saltsriker baitfeeder the biggest of the bunch
and Ah... I fish in the red sea"

"I purchased the biggest of the bunch. That was my only mistake. Should of gotten the smaller unit. I do alot of saltwater fishing. Mostly used for stripper fishing. Im sure the smaller unit would of done the same. But no less Im very happy with the product."

"I've used this reel mostly for surf casting and it's performed like a champ! I've abused this thing in the surf...under water, in the sand, etc., and it still works just like new. I have my Emcast set up with a 9 ft. rod and 30 pound braided line. I have yet to lose a fish with this set-up.
The Cast: excellent smooth casting.
The Retrieve: Under strain (i.e. large fish) there is an ever-so-slight "roughness" compared to $200 reels that I've used. But for the money, I would definitely buy this product again and again. I still give it 5 stars as I was still impressed on how tough this reel was.
Excellent product for the price."

"This reel is built like a tank and will literally crank through salt and sand. It has a very smooth retrieve, and has casted well with the #30 braided line I spooled. Its great that they include a spare spool. If you're looking for an elegant, light weight reel this isn't for you. If you're looking for a reel that is solid and reliable for under $100, the Emcast is a great option."

"Combined with the 15 foot Diawa Rod this reel is accurate and smooth. I used 20 LB line with 3 ounces of weight not including the single down rig set, No foul ups or backlashes and into an average 25 MPH wind."

"I need a back up reel for a 10' surf rod and I didn't want to spend for a BG60, my go-to-reel. I'm really impressed with the Emcast. Casts good and a smooth retrive. I like the cutaway spindle for the spool. Just like a Tica. Makes cleaning easly."

"Finally found a reel that would hld up more than one season snagging 60 to 90 lb. sponbill in the river. this reel was a gift for my son. we have 3 more reels that are two years old and never have had a problem with them. my son whom i gave this reel to went through 4 reels last season that were much more expensive."

"I have been using one of these for the past month and it performs flawlessly. Very good build quality for the price. The 5500 size is a big reel and works well for surf casting. I use mine around rocks and it's fast enough to get the lead off the bottom before it has a chance to get stuck. The only negative about the reel is that it wiggles around a bit on the retrieve because of the material that the body is made of. But I have landed several 10lb. fish and it fights great, with an excellent drag. The only other comparable reel series to the Emcast is Daiwa's own Emblem Pro, at twice the price. And I think the handle on the Emcast is the best one on any saltwater reel."
