A midfoot bridge adds greater stability for the arch and ankle while simultaneously reducing foot stress.

"I bought this shoe for a 1 month trip to Vietnam. I did lots of walking on all kinds of terrain and these shoes held up very well. I liked the shoes because they are stiffer than other shoes I have tried and they give great support. When walking on uneven and rocky ground the sole bed really keeps the rocks from affecting the foot comfort. It got quite hot but I did not find the shoes overly hot, if you wear the correct socks, the shoes are great. They fit very well right out of the box and did not require much breaking in, I installed some spenco insoles rated for backpacking over 25 pounds in place of the factory ones which was a plus. I am still using the shoes after a year and they are still holding up fine. I have had them in water and never had a leak or a wet foot. I suppose if the water is deep enough to be over the top of the shoe, then my feet would be wet, but any idiot should know that.
The only detractors I see for this shoe is the laces do not stay tied, I have worn a hole in the liner at the heel on the right shoe and during some rugged walking in Vietnam, one of the lugs on the heel was torn off, but it did not affect the performance."

"Just received my third pair. I'm still using pair number two for yard work, but the originals finally were retired after three years of heavy use. I use them for walking, at the fittness center and for activities around my fishing/hunting lodge. Being waterproof is a plus for heavy dews, rainy days, and working around the boat dock. They are stable with a good arch support. I like 'em!"

"Received the shoes about three weeks ago and have worn them almost everyday since. They are comfortable and seem to have good traction. I have not had any problems with laces being loose at others have noted so, if that was a problem, it appears to have been remedied. I like 'em."

"I bought these shortly before a 21 day tour through South-East Asia. I wore them nearly every day for 10-12 hours in temperatures ranging from temperate (Shanghai) to tropic (Singapore), all kinds of climate, including monsoonal downpours, and terrain: dirt, gravel, cobblestone, brick, and city streets. They were great! There was no need for any break-in period. My feet loved them right out of the box. I may buy a spare pair if they ever go on sale."

"These shoes feel good on my feet and are not overly heavy. They seem to be holding up well and I treat my shoes with a hard life. I bought them as a summer all around boot. My only complaint is that they're a little warm for summer. I'm certain that I'll get by with them as they seem very comfortable other then that. Good all around shoe."

"1. These shoes do not breathe as well as I had thought they would. In moderate to warm weather, they can be uncomfortably hot when worn for several hours; i.e., they are hotter than my running shoes. In colder weather, they're fine. 2. The shoes stretched after they got wet for the first time. What had been a good, tight fit became a looser fit. I'll be wearing thicker socks or two pair henceforth. 3. I don't like the tread on the soles--I'd like it to be much more aggressive. As you can see in the picture, there is not much to the tread. In rugged VA terrain, I slipped and fell several times and I had poorer traction that I expected on wet leaves, wet ground, and ice. However, they did very well on snow-covered cement sidewalks and asphalt driveways. 4. My socks have never gotten wet in these shoes in wet weather or terrain. However, if water is above the top of the shoe, the water will come into the shoe. 7. Except as stated above, I think they are comfortable to wear. 8. Tying a double-knot in the laces keeps the shoes tied. 9. The shoes go up higher on the ankle (midcut?) than most running shoes, but it is not uncomfortable, just a somewhat different feel. These shoes are also noticeably heavier than running shoes."

"I bought these low hiking shoes for my trip to Hawaii where the trails are steep and muddy. I have never used low hiking shoes before these but now I'm a convert to the low hikers. There was no break in period required for these shoes right out of the box. I hiked between 70-80 miles of muddy mountain trails mostly in the rain forests of Oahu. The shoes were wet every day that I was on the trails but handled everything out there without a problem. I did have to replace the laces as not even a hocky knot would keep them tied. I did this the day after I bought them."
