Cabela's Leather GTX X4 All Terrain Shoe

Equally at home on the sidewalk and mountainside trail, the GTX X4 is our new all-leather, all-terrain adventure shoe. It's equipped with a 100% waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX? membrane to keep feet dry. The anatomic polyurethane footbed provides support and cushioning. Unique X4 Technology Foam is strategically positioned in the heel and forefoot. As the heel strikes, the foam absorbs shock while the foam in the forefoot assists in the rebound of the step process. The heart of this shoe is a molded EVA midsole that serves as an incredible supporting foundation and lends comfort to the design. A midfoot bridge adds greater stability for the arch and ankle while simultaneously reducing foot stress. Underneath, the Multitrack II nonmarking outsole affords superior traction and durability. Sizes: 8-15 D, EE and 9-15 4E. Half sizes to 12. Color: Dark Brown.

"The overall quality of this product is excellent. My only complaint is the sizing. I have consistently ordered the same size of Cabela & other brands of shoes. This pair, although indicating the correct size, was too small. Placing them next to another pair of similar Cabela's shoes showed them to be a bit shorter."

Not a Fan of These Shoes!, October 31, 2009

"NOT WATERPROOF!!! I purchased these shoes to replace a pair of Cabela's Adventure X4 Walking Shoes (that they no longer carry). The old shoes were great. Wore them nearly every day for years. Worked in them. Hunted in them in snow, sleet and rain (and my feet never got cold or wet). Shoveled snow in them... Used them daily for years, and even today, with some of the stiching worn away, and the leather coming apart they are STILL waterproof. The new GTX X4 All Terrain Shoes LEAK like sieves!!! I cannot understand why the more expensive shoes with Gortex LEAK the first time they were worn through wet grass, while the less expensive shoes with Dry-Plus still do not leak after years of wear and abuse. I was always given the impression that Gortex was superior to Dry-Plus??? I also don't understand why a company would discontinue a great line of shoes that perform so well, and replace them with a poorly made line of shoe that perform poorly right out of the box. I am disgusted that these shoes don't even come close to living up to the old style, and now I must go through the time consuming process of returning defective merchandise."

"I am on concrete floor all day long. These shoes have been extremely comfortable. They run a little big which is good cause you could wear an extra pair of socks if desired. I am pleased with how they look and they are a joy to wear."

"These are great hiking shoes. They are ideal for hiking Alaska's backcountry, and hold very well in wet weather. After hiking over tree roots, soft-ball size rocks, mud, puddles, and crossing glacier fed creeks, I found they hold up very well in all kinds of terrain. Plus it breathes very well."

"I used mine mainly for hiking relatively flat terrain and roads. The insole padding was not adequate. The sole of the shoe tore after 1.5 months. I would not recommend for hiking-feet very sore."

"I bought these for wearing around a camping site. They are better than hiking boots since they are easier to put on and better than sneakers since they have better fit and traction. I love them. I think they look better as well."

Great Pair of shoes, June 15, 2009

"I ordered these shoes while I was stationed in Iraq, These shoes lasted a good 8 months tromping through the desert, they kept my feet cool, and more importantly, comfortable. A year later I am still wearing the same shoes. Sole is starting to come off in the back alittle, but thats about it. I wear these every day, because their so comfortable. Since then i've ordered another set, same exact pair for when these finally wear out on me, which im expecting to be another 2 years from now. So at least for me, I have another pair waiting in case they stop selling this specific model. Overall, you really can't beat the ruggedness and comfortableness of these shoes at any price."

"I searched all of Cabelas shoes before settling on these. The best thing I can say is they are waterproof. I have sloshed through all kinds of puddles and creeks these last two months and they have never leaked.

However this is what I would recommend if you are considering this shoe.

I purchased a pair that were 11.5 and EEEE width. They were still narrow up by the toes and perhaps a half size lomger would have helped.

Make sure you get a pair of foot cushions for these shoes. You are going to need them. They have little padding for the foot.

Finally, the back part of the shoe, near your heal, is lower then I would have liked.

Otherwise they seem to give adequate support for a guy that is 6'4" and 325 lbs."

Hurt my feet - runs small?, May 14, 2009

"I decided to try these based on the favorable reviews and rugged styling. The solid leather also appealed to me, since I live in the mountains, and footwear with mesh panels is quickly shredded on rocks.

Anyway, these shoes seemed a little stiff at first, but I decided to keep them. Now several months later I can definitely say that they cause pain in the forefoot and big toe area. Perhaps going up a size would fix the problem, but for the past 30 years I've always taken a size 10, no exceptions.

Since I'm outside of the return period I chose to donate my pair to the local thrift store."

Not Exactly What I Wanted - #82-3798, May 3, 2009

"I will say the waterproofing is good - BUT .... I wear a size 10.5 M and I found the shoe too wide. It would be OK if you wore a relatiely thick sock. The shoe is not designed for warm temps as I find the shoe too warm in temperatures above 50°F, even with wicking socks. I chose these full leather shoes over the fabric/leather combo because I find leather offers better protection from the knocks and bumps that occur to your feet during hiking in rocky areas ... these shoes offer that protection. The tongue needs a loop near the top for the laces to control the tongue from slipping over to the outside of each foot, in my case. I also found the sole to be rather stiff, but not thick enough to avoid that feeling of the intrusiveness of the terrain's texture. That being said, the foot bed needs additional cushioning and support. It's like the shoe can't make up it's mind as to whether to be a light hiking shoe or a causual trail boot, fitting neither application well. Arch support is virtually non-existant. As far as duribitlity, we shall see. So far I've not detected any fatal weaknesses, however, I've only had them a month. So far from what I've experienced they probably they are a shoe best suited for cooler months and/or wet conditions around the freezing point and, where the need for general impact protection overides that of comfort. I would recommend these shoes to someone while informing them of the caveats I've mentioned above. Knowing what I know now - I wish I had selected a different shoe."

Excellent shoe, sizes run small though, February 13, 2009

"I've had mine about a month now and they are comfortable and have kept my feet dry in some slushy snow.

The only somewhat negative comment I have is that the sizes run somewhat small. I'm a size 12 and it was way too small. I had to go up to a 13."
