Awesome,July 23, 2009
By APX255from Florida
"This is an awesome reel. I own 3 and they are smooth, balanced, have great drag systems and are cheaper than the Quantam Cabos which they outperform. I would highly recommend the VSystem series by Okuma."

Bail Arm Roller Issue,July 17, 2009
By Nickoffworldfrom Singapore
"The reel is strong design with good drag, but there is a serious problem where braided line gets caught under the roller system on the bail arm. If you are casting continuously you will spend alot of time pulling the line out of the gap between the roller and its housing. The reel is effectively jammed when the line is caught in this way."

VSystem 55sa, ok, service could be better,February 21, 2009
By SmokingFish
"I own the VSystem 55sa, I fish Pacific coast of Mexico for Jack Trevally, Barracuda, and surf species. The reel has a lot of nice features, very nice looking and relatively light weight for its capacity, it is convenient compact but here is my experience: the reel needs some time to break in, out of the box feels not that smooth, later is ok (but no as my Stradic 4000), the smootheness of the drag was excellent at the beggining and with a year of use is not the same, it has a lot of plastic that scraches easily and the paint of the aluminum frame is peeling off where you insert it on the rod since the first time I used. All comments here about the bail are true, it give some problems because comes off of the bail arm, I ended up to put some crazy glue and solve it! I could have lived with this and buy another reel of those but when I call to the Manufacturer to order parts for this and other reel the service could be much better, so disappointing, I won't say any more. So in this range of budget you go better with a Stradic, VSystem is a fair reel do not give me wrong but Shimano service back you up better.
Be safe and good fishing"

Okuma VSystem Spinning Reel Noise,October 13, 2008
By SISurfFishermanfrom Staten Island, NY
"Despite the large number of bearings, this reel does not wind very smoothly, and the spool makes a considerable amount of noise. It is certainly not as smooth or quiet as the equivalent Penn Captiva model."

V15a, good but not perfect,August 6, 2008
By AzTroutkillerfrom AZ!
"I really like this little reel, my only complaint is that 4lb mono gets caught under the roller & chewed up sometimes..... Just tightened the roller screw, will see if that helps. And it does seem to have some line twist, guess that's part of having a very small spool. Now the good stuff: I use my G.Loomis 6'6" 4-8lb GL2 with this reel for anything freshwater. Awesome drag with clicker, caught a 5lb Brown on the Black River, and a 10lb Flathead in MN, no problem. Very smooth retrieve with just a little wobble. Comes with 2 identical spools. Two years, and so far so good."

Good, not great.,June 10, 2008
By ScottiePfrom Meriden, CT
"I am a big fan of Okuma reels and have been for years. The VSsyetm reel is a good reel not a great reel. It is smoothe, but my reel handle comes loose quite often, and is a minor annoyance. It is definetely a better reel than the Epixor or less expensive Okuma models, but I like my Inspira much better than my VSystem."

Nice nice nice,March 14, 2008
By Sammypan
"i was lucky enough to get one of the first Vs 40 that was shipped out from Cabelas. This reel is worth it easily. Day one in salt water we limited on Redfish the smallest being a bit under 24 inches. Day 2 using the Vs i caught a snook that was the biggest snook i have ever caught and several Redfish and a Speck that was Mounted. a few weeks later we were out Fishing for Redfish and i caught a small ladyfish, the next thing i knew the water exploded, 149 lbs of Tarpon decided that it wanted the ladyfish. and after a intense fight, with the Okuma working hard and me praying I landed the tarpon. My Okuma now resides on a shelf with my a picture of the Tarpon on a plaque. its more then earned its rest after that I introduced a friend to his Vs 55 and he promptly caught a 200 lbs Goliath grouper while fishing for snapper and got the fish to the boat. Amaizing reels for the money, and the new Okuma Rods are a best bet when you match them with the Vs."

Great Reel!,February 1, 2008
By Milwaukeefishermanfrom Milwaukee,WI
"I have a VS40 and a VS55sa. They both perform excellent. The VS40 is really impressive because it is a small compact reel that holds a lot of line. It is perfect for bass fishing. It cast great, feels smooth, and has plenty of power with a great drag system. I use the VS55 for Salmon fishing. It can cast great, and has plenty of power! Anyone who fishes salmon know how important a good drag is. The VS has a nice smooth drag with endless settings. like the VS 40, it can hold a lot of line for its size. It is always good to have a little extra line for a king salmon. This is what really sold me on Okumas. I am always waiting to try another Okuma!"

Breaking in my Okuma VSystem,December 17, 2007
By Seabornefrom New Orleans, LA
"I purchased a VS-30a and im very impressed. It feels real natural with my GLoomis rod. On the first day caught a few good numbers of specks with it and then a 50" redfish nailed it HARD. It spooled me and the drag system on it is like no other. I would recommend this reel to anyone."

completely satisfied - rock solid VS,December 2, 2007
By pencilfrom North Carolina
"I've had my VS-40 for over two years now. I get to go saltwater fishing 15 days or so a year, not much I know, so the price was a little hard to swallow. I was impressed with the silky-smooth retrieve out of the box. I paired it with PowerPro braid and one spool with mono (free spool is plus). I've always had rock solid performance when fishing for redfish, flounder, specks, all the inshore and nearshore varieties. First day out I landed a 27" red. The drag worked well to bring in this slot sized fish. The 5 year warranty is a plus, but I'm not sure I will need it - I think this reel will keep going, and going, and going.....My motto is "alway buy quality and you only have to buy once." This reel is worth the money."

Okuma VS not ready for Prime Time,September 15, 2007
By Gator44from Westerly, R.I.
"I purchased the VS 40 because of the 5 year warranty and hoped that it would a workhorse in my collection of reels. Although it has a smooth drag and retrieve, it has proved unreliable. The first day out surf fishing in stormy conditions with lots of wind and rain, the bearings tightened up. The reel had to be stripped and relubricated, a procedure that is reasonably complicated. Next the bail failed and would not close reliably. The reel was returned to Okuma and repaired under the warranty. The reel was then used fishing from a boat, but after only a few hours use, the bail mechanism failed again. This time the bail would only move to a vertical position as the bail trip lever would hang up in a hole in the bail arm. I tried to repair it with no success. Returned to reel to Okuma for the second time and again they repaired it, but I have little faith that the problem is solved for good. Maybe I got a lemon, but I noticed that another reviewer had the same problem. I'll post an update, but at this time I can't recommend that you purchase the reel."

Okuma VSystem,September 12, 2007
By jimmerfrom Minot, ND
"This is my second Okuma VSystem Spinning Reel and I think their great. This reel with my Gloomis rods are a natural and create not just a rod & reel, but a fishing system. I'am positive that I'll be coming back for more since it's a great substitute for the Stella, at 1/3rd the price. Three words describe the reel, balance, quality, value."

okuma v30,June 26, 2007
By keitht
"First off, my initial impression of the reel was great , although not really silky smooth for haveing 16 or so bearings .Not having used the v30, I also purchased the v40 but promtly returned it , it felt much sloppier or had more play in it than the v30 i purchased prior. First day out with the v30 , the only rod/reel i took with me that day fishing , the reel didn't make 12 casts before the bail failed , it had apeared the screw that holds the bail arm on, on the roller side, either came loose or some how allowing the bail spring mech. to override. Being the only reel i had with me. i made an atempt to repair in the feild and salvage my day, only to find a broken , cheesy thin plastic washer. Note okuma, haveing to disassemble the the line roller/bail wire to access the bail spring mech, is a poor design, the bail spring mech also seems poor, in my opinion. Ultimatly loosing some of the parts, my fault i know, although they have been nice enough to ship the parts i requested for free i've had some trouble getting the right ones as some of the part numbers dont jive and are a little hard to identify from their schematic. Based on my expirience with this reel i won't buy another okuma product . mabey it was a lemon, maby not but For the money, id expect much better reliability, i've had cheaper reels that had better reliability. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere."

Okuma VS-20,May 22, 2007
By JohnT8950from Oregon
"This is the most fantastic reel I've ever owned. It casts extremely smooth, and when you get a fish on it's just as smooth. I've owned many reels in the past from "major" manufacturers and none of them hold a candle to this one. It may be a little bit spendy, but believe me you get more than you paid for it. I highly recomend it."
