"I needed to replace my worn out round baitcaster and wanted to try something other than the VBS of Shimano. This reel is nice. It adjusts well pretty quicky. I am throwing weightless senkos a good distance even into wind. Retrieve is smooth w/ 11 bearings. I can't wait to try throwing at reds from the kayak with this reel.

Try it. I doubt you will be disappointed."

"It's from Abu Garcia, duh. In either the 6.4:1 or the HS 7.1:1, these reels are flawless. They cast and retrieve like silk. 24lb of drag pressure will stop even the big girls from running to far away from the boat.

Wish they made a 3.8:1 or 4.2:1 ratio for deep running cranks and slow rolling spinners though."

"I just bought my second Revo SX, this time got the HS version. I started out with Shimano reels, then switched to Diawa, and with both I really liked the models I had but when it came time to replace them I didn't care for the new and improved version. I like the Revo's better than anything I have had in the past. These are GREAT reels, please ABU - don't change a thing."

"I have owned several Abu Garcia reels, including a Revo SC (the Cabela's exclusive) and i have never encountered a reel this silky smooth, on the cast and the retrieve. Everything about this reel is perfect: high gear ratio, easy to palm, extremely smooth on the cast and retrieve, and the Mack-Truck-stopping drag that Abu is known for. This reel casts unbelievably well, HOWEVER, i would not recommend this as your first baitcaster, i would recommend an entry level Diawa or a Prodigy (my first). For experienced anglers, you can't buy a better reel for the money, well worth the investment."

"the best reel i have ever owned. Smooth, quick, light, strong, and easy to use! Just caught an 8 lb largemouth on it yesterday! if you want tournament quality with abu garcia durability this is it! dont worry about the price because, as you should already know, with fishing equipment you get what you pay for! you will never buy another! other reviews talk about the cast control not working...dont listen to it...this thing is the real deal! i want a few more so i dont have to change lures as much!"

"As are all REVO's, the SX is excellent. It may lack some of the bells and whistles of the more expensive models, but it performs just as well. Adjustments are easy to make over a wide range of lure weights all the way down to weightless 4" worms."

"This is hands down the best baitcasting reel I have ever used.....period! I have used a lot of different types of baitcasters in the past, and have never been totally satisfied with any of them. This reel is a different story, I have found no flaws in it to date. I decided to give this reel a try because I have several of the older Abu Garcia round baitcasters and have never had any problems with them as far as quality or maintenance issues. You can tell right out of the box the quality in this reel. The drag is second to none and the click feature on the spool tension knob is very useful. As long as you set the spool tension correctly, backlashes are not a problem at all. I would highly recommend this reel to anyone looking to buy a baitcaster.....a much better value than most other reels on the market."

"I was a bit worried about backlash based on some reviews, but I was so impressed by the quality of the reel after comparing it to the Currado in the store, that I decided to give it a shot. This is the second baitcasting reel that I’ve owed, and have only been using this type of reel for about a year, but I have to say that it was incredibly easy to use. My other baitcast real is a Diawa, so maybe I was just used to the magnetic brake but I had no problem casting to the other side of the spot that I fish. I fish from the bank, so casting distance is a must for me, and it delivered. Fist time out I caught two nice largemouth’s and the pulling power of this thing amazed me. I would recommend this to anyone...5 stars all the way. Plus you can't beat the Wiley X sunglass offer."

"This is one sweet reel, very smooth and sleek. I can cast this thing a country mile if I feel the need. I'm 6' tall with slightly larger than average hands, it fits in the palm of my hand with my fingers are less than an inch from touching, anyway my point I"m trying to get to is that it holds a lot of line for how big it is. This reel is powerful and solid. You will see and appreciate the value of your money spent if you buy this reel."

"Smoothest reel out there, I have 2 of them and really like them. the only issue I have is the magnetic brake is a bit weak. If the reel is setup perfect its OK but its not hard to get a backlash with this reel. I acually think the REVO S is just as good if not better then this reel due to its non magnetic brake."

"got this reel for xmas 2005. after 3 years it is till performing great. very small, very smooth. this reel does everything well. very well constructed. i am very hard on fishing reels. i fish more than the average. for a reel to last more than a year without loosing it's smoothness is an accomplishment. one more quick note, i have never taken the reel apart to clean it. never have lubed any of the moving parts. it is pretty much bullet proof."

"I use Revo reels for Redfish on the Florida Gulf Coast. There are powerful reels, and smooth to operate. I love my SX's. You can't go wrong the amount of quality bearings this reel has. It's a pleasure to use, and you can throw very light baits with this reel. I often throw a 1/8 oz weighted worm hook with a plastic shrimp and have no problems."

Lack of magnetic drag control, January 23, 2008

"The reel feels good and is smooth but the magnetic spool control is a very weak link. To stop the spool from overrunning you have to adjust the mechanical drag very snug. The mag reel drag seems to not work at all."
