Reversing mechanism failed,September 20, 2009

"I ordered this reel for a September 2009 Canada trip. Unfortunately after about 5 minutes of use the reversing mechanism failed making the reel virtually unusable. I had to use a smaller Okuma Metaloid but it survived the 5-day trip - Thankfully. I also noticed the bail would not faithfully close after casting. This reel seems to have serious design flaws - don't buy it."

Excellent Spinning Reels,September 17, 2009

"I needed to replace some aging reels in the boat and purchased 4 - 2000A's late summer of 2008. I added 2 - 2500A's and 2 - 3000A's in 2009. These are super reels with great features, along with fit and finish. I mainly chase walleyes on lake Winnebago and have enjoyed them for jigging as well as casting. I was so pleased with their performance that I added the larger 3000's for when I head down to the piers on Lake Michigan and cast for salmon and trout. No disappointment here. 4 - 15lb plus king salmon this year already. These fish are like hooking a rocket ship, ripping 100's of yards of line off your reel in seconds, multiple times. The drag performed flawlessly. These are great reels to consider and are a great value, especially when they are on sale."

"I probably have about a dozen of these reels now, and they are excellent. Drags are smooth, and the reels are very durable, and silky smooth to reel. I fish only artificial baits, making perhaps 500 to 1000 casts a day, which puts a lot of wear and tear on reels, but these hold up extrememly well. Only one observation...the bail springs seem to be a bit weak, but I have not had a failure because of it."

Anti-Reverse Issue,July 14, 2009

"After stringing one of the spools with yds of good quality fishing line, I noticed the anti-reverse was off, and switching the very cheap plastic lever to what was supposed to be the on position, the anti-reverse still was not operational. This reel has never been used and is the first time I've had an issue with any reel right out of the box. Not happy with just replacing in kind due to questionable quality, I went with a Pflueger instead. I hope those that have this reel enjoy troublefree fishing, but I was not so lucky with this one."

"I have the 2500 model paired with a 6'6" XML Ti ML rod and have had a chance to put it through its paces fishing for bass and pike over the past two years. The reel has continued to function extremely smoothly and the drag is simply outstanding. The fit and finish of the reel, dependability of the drag, and wobble free performance all convey a sense of quality. In addition, I have been impressed with the lack of line twist with this reel.
My only complaint is that the bail does not close approximately 10-15% of the time, and I cannot determine a clear pattern to understand why. This is usually a minor nuisance, but on occasion the time required to manually close the bail can lead a heavy lure such as a spoon to sink further than desired and sometimes snag on the bottom. If this one apparent design flaw is corrected I can see no reason to spend a penny more on a great quality reel for any freshwater fish up to 15 pounds."

"Thought this reel would be far superior to the Prestige series reels. Was Wrong. Anti-reverse switch is backward to most reels which is akward. I can't tell any difference in line twist between the Prestige and this reel. It is an OK buy. The Prestige is a much better buy. I fish in excess of 150 days/year."

"This is a great reel and handles smoother than any other reel I've ever had. The only thing I wish was better, was that the reel handle screw would tighten up better. I notice that there is a small amount of play in the handle - even when the tightening screw is turned hard. But that's a small thing compared to everything else that is great about it. One last thing - the line ratings are based on monofilement lines - so if you are planning on spooling it with a superline, like fireline, then be aware and get a smaller sized spool."

Great drag, but problems with the bail,June 15, 2009

"I purchased this reel for some large Northern fishing in Canada. The drag worked great - very smooth and no problems, even with a 41 inch fish. I am confident this reel could handle much larger fish. The only issue i had was that we did a lot of casting and occassionally the bail would not click over all the way. When I was casting toward the shoreline, this would cause my lure to sink to the shallow bottom before i could start my retrieve and I would get snagged. Once this caused me to not be able to engage and hook a fish in time."
