Oregon Scientific Indoor/Outdoor Weather Station,
September 10, 2009
By DMH1

"I purchased the Oregon Scientific Indoor/Outdoor Weather Station as a protective device for my bird dogs. I haul my 2 pudelpointers in the back of my truck under a camper shell/cap. California bird seasons start in early fall when the temperatures can still be in the 90's and low 100's. I used velcro to attached the remote sensor in the shell and can now monitor the temperature in the back. I've used other models that are slower in giving a true reading and am pleased with the quicker and more accurate temperatures."

Read the instructions,
March 31, 2009
By scouter64

"Almost every other review about this product complaines about the 'freeze alarm" going off at all hours of the night. And I agree, it is almost the most anoying thing that it could possibly do. But, when you read the instructions, you find out that it is only active on channel 1. On the sending unit there are 3 channels that it can be set to. And on the recieving unit, you can select to recieve channel 1, 2 or 3. This way you can have multiple outdoor sending units in different places around your home, and pick which one you want displayed on the inside unit. Set the sending & recieving unit to channel 2, and no more alarms waking you up in the middle of the night. Once that problem is solved, it's a great little piece of equipment."

Works great easy to read,
February 10, 2009
By Coldweatherjohn

"Before I purchased, I read the testimonials on this product. They all said that it was great but they couldn't deal with the Ice warning alarm tone that apparently cannot be shut off permanently. THEY WERE RIGHT. The alarm goes off repeatedly if the temp. is below 36 degrees. Annoying at 2:00am. So I opened it up and cut one lead wire to the speaker. Since then its been the best mini weather station my wife and I ever had on our kitchen window sill. "Warning" If you open it up you will void the warrranty. ENJOY!!!!!"

"Lots of features, accurate, but takes a little time to program at first set-up. Be sure to learn how to disable the freeze alarm off the website, it is not described in the instruction booklet. Now that we have all the settings like we want, we really like it."

can't get to work properly,
February 12, 2008
By grama3

"I received this as a gift for Christmas. I can't get the alarm to not go off. No matter what I do the alarm will still come on at various times. I would like to return it. Also, the outside temperature will be on for a week or so and then it disappears. I have tried changing the batteries and doing exactly what the instructions say but to no avail."

"My boyfriend loves this. If you live in a colder area, just be sure to go to the manufacturers web-site and set the unit to not beep when the temperture drops below freezing or it will wake up the whole house. :)"

Indoor -outdoot temperature reader!!!,
January 29, 2008
By LyndaMO
from Missouri in winter

"We bought 2 of these - one for us and one for our daughter's home. They work well until it gets to be about freezing then an alarm sounds. There isn't any way to turn the alarm off! The alarm sounds any time the temperature gets close to 32 degrees ( 28-35). It beeps and beeps and beeps. It beeps during the night and sounds too much like the smoke alarm. Our daughter threw hers out. We remove ours from power at night. I still think we should have sent them back as soon as we figured our what was happening."

Oregon Scientific Indoor/Outdoor Weather Station,
January 15, 2008
By luckypogo

"I was looking for a bassic indoor and outdoor thermometer, however all i could find was one with alarms that would inform you if the temp got above or below a set temp and readjusted every 12 hours. Needless to say every 12 hours the alarm would go off. I am going back to the old fashioned in door outdoor thermometer. No other functions."

"I have another Oregon Scientific remote thermometer that works great, but this unit never worked out of the box. I should send it back, but it's a hassle and I don't even know if Cabelas will take it back or send a new one. Big thumbs down."

Alarms Everywhere!,
April 24, 2007
By brownie2
from atlanta, ga
|
"I specifically chose this model because it did not have too many features. The less complicated the better. I followed the directions and got it set up and reading the correct temps. In the middle of the night an alarm went off... then the next night too but at a different time! I called the 800 number and one of the prompts was "to bypass the low temp alarm press 1" Obviously a lot of people couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Now that I've bypassed the low temp alarm the outdoor temp sensor can not be read. This is one complicated thermometer! Unless you like to get up in the middle of the night because it is cold out don't bother to buy this one."

Will not maintain a signal,
November 26, 2006
By Mead
from Spokane, WA
|
"The unit has an easy to read display, and the atomic clock is a nice feature which seemes to work well. The problem is that the unit will not maintain the signal from the sending unit. The instructions say that the sending unit must face the receiver and can be up to 100 feet away. I set mine up at 50 feet away, facing the receiver, and the sending unit never would connect to the receiver. I moved the sending unit to within 20 feet of the receiver and then it connected but it would loose tne signal from time to time. Unfortunately for my application having the sending unit that close would not insure that it would not get full sun in the summer time. I will be returning it for something that hopefully has a more powerful sending unit."
