Mittens for the Extreme,November 18, 2007
By TheSnowDancerfrom Fallon, Nevada
"These mittens are truly the best extreme weather hand protection I've used. I use them to ride my motorcycle back and forth to work. Multiply the wind chill by sub-freezing tempertatures, and it doesn't take long for the substandard product to fail, but not these mittens! They keep my hands nice and warm, despite direct wind on them as I ride. If you have to use them to work in, the between-finger linings are a fantastic way to control clammy hands. The leather is very supple. I am going to buy another pair for my wife!"

Nice mitts,February 9, 2009
By yooperbowmanfrom Munising MI
"Ordered these for snowblowing in the coldest of days here in the UP. Nice mittens, but a bit disappointed by the thickness of insulation on the front of the fingers and palm (listed ast 150 gram). When running snowblower controls, hands can still feel the metal! Would be better if as heavy as that on the back of the mittens. Leather would not hold up to a lot of abuse."

Pinnacle Mittens,January 26, 2009

"Construction of the product appeared to be well above average in this day and age but they were not as warm as I had anticipated. I sent them back today and I will just stay with my 10+ year old Cabela's wool lined 'chopper' mittens."

Pinacle XL mittens,January 26, 2009
By APLLC
"Mittens keep my hands and fingers warm, as advertised, for up to two hours working in sub-zero temps. However, the thinsulate is starting to bunch up in the palm after only two weeks and the palm leather is showing sings of wear. I'll be surprised if they last the season."

mittens,January 1, 2009
By CatWhitefrom Bridgewater NH
"My husband has now worn these mittens in a warm wet snow storm and a bitterly cold, windy snow storm as he plowed and shovelled for hours. They kept his hands warm and dry and he did not have any problem with sweating in the mittens-a definite change from most warm mittens. The leather palms also gave a good grip. A very good choice ."

Warm Mittens,February 24, 2008
By drbobdogfrom Soda Springs, Idaho
"I was freezing my hands on the backsides when I was plowing snow on my 4 wheeler when really cold. I ordered the Cabela's Gore-Tex Pinnacle XL mittens out of desperation. Guess what, the 300 grams of Thinsulate did the trick. Also having all my fingers beside each other I'm sure helped. I was a very good purchase!!!"

Not that good,February 20, 2008
By lxh1from colchester, vt
"These mittens are not at all competive with good old fashioned chopper mittens - thick wool liners with leather outers, I wish I knew where I could find a pair. Within several minutes my hands start to get cold. Thinsulate is not what it is cracked up to be and in my experience never has been. Otherwise the outer covering is good and flexible and my hands stay dry, just not warm."

Review 16 for Cabela's GORE-TEX® Pinnacle XL Mittens
"A very good mitten that gives more dexterity than your average mitten. The only problem I have encountered is that the palm leather is not very durable and is easily scuffed and cut by handling rough objects such as firewood. It would be nice to have a more durable covering on the palm of the mitten given the steep price tag of these gloves."

Warm Hands,February 8, 2008
By OutDoorsEveryDayfrom Cleveland, OH
"The things I like: They keep my hands reasonbly warm, even in single digit temps. They look well put together. They keep my hands dry. Cons: This is my 5th or 6th pair of gloves/mitts from Cabela's - the last 2 (these included) fit tighter than the ealier gloves I purchased. As I have to unglove frequently this prevents me from using a liner glove."

WELL MADE, BUT LESS THAN "MITTEN" WARM,February 1, 2008
By NEOHIOEDDIEfrom MASSILLON, OHIO
"I ALREADY OWN A PAIR OF PINNACLE GLOVES AND BOUGHT THE MITTENS FOR SINGLE-DIGIT WALKS WITH MY DOG. I WENT OUT THE EVENING I RECEIVED THEM IN 20 DEGREE WEATHER TO TRY THEM OUT AND CAME BACK FEELING THEY OFFER NO MORE WARMTH THAN THE PINNACLE GLOVES. I AGREE WITH SOME OF THE OTHER REVIEWERS WHO THINK THE GAUNTLET COULD BE A BIT WIDER AND THAT THE IDEA OF SEPARATED FINGERS INSIDE THE MITTENS MAY INHIBIT THEIR ABILITY TO KEEP FINGERS AS WARM AS THEY COULD BE."

Mittens not doing their job,January 29, 2008
By ColdHands
"Both my wife and I used these mittens and experienced cold hands after only 25-minutes of snowshoeing in 19-degree windless conditions. The mittens were well-made and correctly fitted our hands. In particular our fingertips, entire thumb, and pinkies became cold to almost the point of numbness. We would not recommend these mittens."

Gore-Tex Pinnacle XL Mittens,January 16, 2008
By DocPfrom Milwaukee, WI
"These mittens were purchased for cold/wind protection while riding a touring motorcycle. They are effective at low speeds but the higher the speed (up to legal highway speed limits of 70), the quicker the mittens loss the ablility to protect. The outer (deer) leather appears to require additional sealing to reduce airflow through seams and "pores" in the leather (some type of flexible sealer might be sprayed onto the back of the hand portion of the mitten to increase protection from high and extended-duration winds). The Gore-Tex insert performs as advertised in keeping moisture away from the skin and the Thinsulite (Supreme) maintains warmth except as noted (e.g., with air temperature of 40 degrees and traveling at 65 miles per hour the hands become uncomfortably cold after 35-40 miles). One issue with using this mitten as a riding glove - the Gore-Tex/Thinsulite insert is only connected to the mitten at the wrist - when gripping anything (i.e., throttle/handgrips) the insert moves inside the leather outer which makes it more difficult maintain a solid "grip"."
