"I purchased these to use for two weekends of working at a shooting range for pre deer season sight ins that is open to the public (Fond du Lac Wisconsin Isaac Walton League). They protected my hearing and allowed me to hear all the shot calls over the radio intercom. I could readily hear all conversation and clearly converse with people. At this point in time I would say they are worth the money. Had they not worked this well they were going straight back to the store. Prior to puirchasing I read all the reviews for the other electronic muffs and these were the most highly reviewed."

"I have only used these 5 times and have had no problems. I tried a less expensive set last year and they broke before the end of the season. My only compliant is the muffs do well at covering my ears but during the hot teal hunts, I begin to sweat heavily and it can be a pain."

"I recently bought the Peltor Tac Sport muffs, they really work. I just wore them on a goose hunt here in Iceland the other day and not only was I able to hear well, my hearing was better then without them, except no shooting noises. The cups might be a bit small, at least for those with large ears, like me, hehe."

"These are great. I have been teaching some people to shoot and these muffs are great for teaching. They really muffle the report of each muff, but instructions are very clearly heard.
When using outdoors the noise of the wind blowing through the grass can be distracting at first. However, a friend of mine was hunting deer, and he got spooked when he heard a deer bleat nearby. Once he got used to actually hearing the deer, he loves these muffs.

"Having bought three other brands of microphone gun headsets, I was fed up with cheap plastic construction and batteries going dead. These Peltor Tactical Sport headsets are different! The higher price is well worth it. Metal parts bind the muffs to the headband. The battery compartment is accessible without a screwdriver. The digital circuitry shuts off the unit automatically, SAVING batteries. I now have five pairs for my Cowboy Shooting range. Being able to hear each other increases safety at the range!"

"These muffs perform well. In fact, with the volume turned up, they performed a little too well. On the trap field, I could hear guys behind the 27-yard line chatting while I was shooting. Also the gunfire from the rifle/pistol range next to the trap field was much noisier than with non-electronic muffs. While the loud crack was gone, the lower-decibel sound of the pistol/rifle fire was much more noticeable than with unamplified muffs. What was really weird was hearing the echo of the gunfire! (We shoot trap over a ravine) I had to turn down the volume so I wouldn't be distracted.
Once I adjusted the volume properly, the muffs worked great.
I like the sound on for trap so I can hear the scorekeeper. I also like to wear muffs while behind the 27-yard line talking to other shooters since I find the report of the shotguns uncomfortably loud for my unprotected ears. It was a pleasure to be able to hear what others were saying while I was wearing the muffs and not have to strain. In like vein, I took a lesson while wearing the muffs, and I could hear my instructor clearly without having to move a muff off one of my ears.
On the pistol range, I found that I had to turn the sound off since there's little I want to hear, and again hearing people chatting behind me was distracting. (The cease-fire command can be heard no matter what hearing protection you wear.) If I were shooting a bullseye match, I would turn on the volume since there would be no spectator chatter during strings of fire.
I was initially concerned that NRR of 20 might be too low, but the noise reduction was adequate at the pistol range (concrete floor, concrete wall behind us, metal roof above, open to the outside in front). It might not be enough if there bigger boomers next to me. If I were shooting just pistol, I might just forgo the electronic muffs and wear my non-electronic muffs with the higher NRR. Alternatively, these would be good to wear if one is inclined to wear both ear plugs and muffs.
The on/off switch is easy to find while wearing the muffs, but the volume control is not. Sometimes I have to take the muffs off to adjust the volume. Fortunately, once I set the volume, it stays at that setting until adjusted again, even if the unit is turned off in the interim.
A nice feature is that the sound turns off automatically after 2 hours. This saves the battery in case you toss them into a shooting bag or the trunk of your car and forget to turn them off. When the muffs are turned on, a beep is heard, and when the muffs are turned off, a beep with a different pitch is heard.
Although these are slim muffs, if you don't like shooting shotgun with muffs, I don't think you'll like it with these either. I have no problem shooting shotgun with muffs.

"The Peltors worked real good in controlling unnecessary noise. I liked the smallest of them for shooting shotguns and some rifles. However, the controls were driving me crazy. I couldn't find them. Once you put the ear muffs on, the controls are not knobs, switches, etc. They are part of the ear muffs, level even with the ear muff and they do not have ribs, nor anything that you can feel with your fingers to indicate where the on/off button is and the same goes for the hearing level indicators. What you have is the high volume on top, the on/off in the center and the lowering of the volume on the bottom. I just found them difficult to operate."

"6 months use so far. Battery life is excellent. comfortable to wear for long periods hunting in Western Australian bush for feral pigs. Sound is clear and cutoff crisp. Can forget that you are wearing them if the gain is set at normal - As when you shoot the bang is gone but kick etc are still there! which is unusual the first few times you fire. Being able to hear your hunting partner low whisper instructions etc without the hand signals and removing the muffs/plugs means that if that quick shot is required you are ready, and your hearing is still protected. I just wish I had them when I hunted pigs in the Kimberley with a mate who had his new barrel magnaported (muzzle braked which made it very loud) and had my ears ringing for hours!!! Increasing the gain works well if you are still and it is not windy, but does take a little getting used to as things sound closer and bigger in the bush. Have recommended to 3 hunting partners who have bought them also - now there is no unfair advantage again!"

"I bought these muffs with the hope of using them while waterfowl hunting. This past weekend I took them out to shoot pigeons over my dog to get ready for the upcoming season. The muffs are comfortable, do not obstruct gun mount, I could hear just fine, and worked very well at first. . . when they were working. It was raining slightly (what I consider normal hunting conditions) and the muffs cut out. I could not bring them back to life. They are now working just fine, three days later. I don't know what happened, if they timed out or what, but I am sending them back for a different brand. I want a reliable product."
