Dog Doc,
September 29, 2008
By Dalekc
from Avide Minnesota upland and waterfoul hunter

"I am looking forward to trying out the Dog Doc next weekend when the waterfoul season begins. The Dog Doc appears to be just what I need to provide my favorite hunting companion easy access to my duck boat. It will also provide my dog with a place to sit and watch the birds."

Works poor,

"I have a Lowe Modified V, and after examining other boats as well this product will not work well on most other boats either. By the time I was done with modifying this dock I could have built my own. I actually welded and additial bar below and the verticals to add a piece of plywood cut in a v notch to fit my boat and added one more to the dock plywood. Use to pull straps and it works like a tree stand if you have to achor points on your boat. After modification I noticed there design was not strong enough to hold up to the dogs weight and the welds on the angle to the square tubing were breaking. I then had to stiffen by adding angle that angled from the bottom of the verticle support to the angle iron on the platform. In short I all but rebuilt the platform I basically paid for two pieced of carpeted plywood , it does however work well other than bulky and takes up room in the boat when in transportation. I would really not recommend this product."

"The dock is nice and big. The step is also very handy. The only problem I have with it is it does not have enough adjustment for it to get tight on the boat .My boat has slanted sidewalls the dog doc is made for staight walls. I made a simple adjustment addon piece and it worked just fine."

"I would have to agree with the other 4 or 5 reviews I've read. This product was very poorly designed and odviously not by a hunter. I do not know of any boat made in the last 20 years with 90 degree sides, which is required for this product to work? I tried several modifications and all were not suitable for a quick and easy set-up not to mention the stability. Me................I'm returning it!
Happy Huntin!"

NEEDED SOME WORK,
October 23, 2007
By ArbuckleAl

"This is an O.K. dog ramp. The clamps are just steel plates so I had to add rubber chair feet so that it would not tear up my boat or scratch the camo paint off. It is heavy for its size so if you have a small boat this could become a problem. The preset holes for the platform are low and the platform would sit in the water without drilling addition holes further up. Also unless the sides of the boat are 90 degrees to the water the platform will set at an angle. I had to mount mine by the motor. You may have to adjust this alot for your boat."

northern dog doc -- poor quality,
August 21, 2007
By hawk98

"The dog doc was was very poor quality and construction, if you can bend square tubing you can make something yourself that would much better. Had trouble getting it to sit properly on my boat's gunnels and when I finally got it on and tried it out, it was horrible. The bottom step was below the water line and my 87 lb. Chesapeake bent the tubing. Returned for refund!!"

Dog Doc,

"Purchased this for my 16' jon boat and will be sending it back tomorrow. Must have been a previous return since the paint was already scratched off of the mounting brackets. The main problem was that the clamps on the "J" bracket would not adjust enough (close) to allow the platform to rest anywhere near level while in the water. Actually, it hung about forty-five degrees down. The price was good and assembly was easy, even though the step assemble section was not included. Should have paid more attention to the other reviews!"

Good while it lasted,

"At first I was very happy with the dog doc. After only a week or so, the product rusted so bad that it actually started coming apart at the attachment for the first large step. Not sure if it was the salt water, the 100lb. lab, or a combination of both. Needless to say i'm not happy with the purchase."

Dog Doc, not for every boat,
November 20, 2006
By JSinSWIA
from Macedonia, IA
|
"I recently purchased and returned a Northern Flight Dog Doc. I returned the piece of equipment because it would not work on my particular boat. The Dog Doc is a spacious platform for the dog to work off of and I believe it would be good for them to get out of the water on. The reason it does not work on my boat is that the gunnel is not sturdy enough to support it. There is alot of leverage on the mounting brackets and unless your boat has a sturdy gunnel cap you might not like it. The Doc would work well on a more modern boat with wide, sturdy gunnel caps."
