Good Boot,October 20, 2009
By Anonymousfrom New England
"Been wearing these for about 2 months to break them in, and was suprised how comfortable they were. Did a 9mi hike last weekend and survived with no hot spots/rubs. These are definitely 'light' boots, and will work fine (great, actually) for the woodland trails in the NE. But I doubt they would hold up on scree & talus slopes of the big mountains. I would give them 5 stars, but for the price of these puppies I expect perfection."

So-so shoes,October 7, 2009
By nmnimrodfrom New Mexico
"This is my first (and last) pair of Meindl hikers. Thought I would try them after reading all the hype. They are comfortable when I put them on but blister my feet if I use them for more than a mile or two at a time. Not sure why. I always wear a thin sock under a thick wool sock and the Danners work just fine. So, why didn't I stick with the Danners? Dunno - but that's what my next pair will be."

Light Hiker up Castle Peak,September 28, 2009
By CastlePeakfrom San Diego, CA
"I just finished a trip up Castle Peak in the Idaho White Cloud range and the boots performed quite well, especially since I was not able to break them in ahead of time (never wise). The hike in was about 7 miles with 40 pound packs and then we went up the peak twice from different approaches and hiked with day packs around the area. With wool sock and sock liners I had no blisters or hot spots. The sole of the boot was particularly grippy while climbing the peak. The only downside was a crease along the top of the boot for each foot which dug into the top of my foot. I stopped noticing it after awhile due to concentrating on other physical challenges."

Exceptional boot,September 14, 2009
By Gutschow
"Just completed a CO self-guided drop camp hunt in the Flattops at 11,000 feet. Hiked more than 5 miles each day for a week, some of it over very steep terrain, much of it through dark timber and numerous deadfalls. This boot is exceptional. Being able to adjust the lacing system to tighten specific parts of the boot is a must. I never fell during the hunt, both of my hunting partners (wearing Danners) did. Frankly, I don't know why anyone heading off on a warm/moderate temp mountain hunt would consider any boot other than this one. It's that good ..."

Best Pair of Boots I Own,May 8, 2009
By HunterTfrom New Holland, PA
"These are the best pair of boots I have ever had, great fit, comfortable and have good support. The design of these shoes makes them easy on and easy off, not like some other boots where you have to pull hard to remove them or put them on. The lacing undoes down to the lower part of the tongue of the shoe and they slip on and off with ease. Lacing them up is easy with the hook type holders, and, they stay put not slipping off your feet after a long walk. The insole is soft and comfortable to the foot, long walks no sore feet. The sole of the shoe is solid, no jagging the foot when you step on a rock or stick. The tread on the sole is stable, no slipping or sliding around on slopes or wet terrain. I would definitely recommend these for hiking and/or hunting."

Perfekt Light Hiker,April 5, 2009
By moses6x6from WI
"I purchased these hikers after an extensive search for a new boot to take on a Philmont 90 mile hike this summer. I have had them on for three weekends and so far they have provided a solid, comfortable fit, with no hot spots. The size is fairly true - you may even find you can get by with 1/2 size smaller due to the generous toe room.
This boot is very stable and the sole is medium to stiff. Plenty of support for carrying a pack. I really like the footbed. I have flat feet and the cork seems to really work as advertised.
I tried many boots before settling on this pair. Columbia Daska is a nice boot, but too narrow across the front of the foot. Merrill Moabs are not stable enough for me and a pack. Same goes for Vasque. (I'm 220lb and 6'1".) The Cabelas Mountain Hiker II ran a bit big for me and the footbed is pretty flimsy compared to the Meindl.
The memory foam system does work as advertised. It hugs the foot and gives a stable feel. My feet seem a bit warm in these boots, probably due to the memory system keeping the boot snug to all parts of the foot. Another nice feature of these boots is that they come with a thin footbed shim to put under the cork footbed. This comes in handy when switching from thin to thicker socks.
This is my fourth pair of Meindl boots. I have been wearing their hunting boots (Ibex) and leather hikers for about 15 years. I've recommended them to many of my hunting buddies and all have been very pleased.
For summer hiking these boots may be a bit warm, but they are by far the most stable and comfortable of the four or five brands I tried. I don't think I'll regret them for rugged mountain backpacking."

Nice Boots -- Very Uncomfortable,March 24, 2009
By Ramvfrom Denver
"After spending much time on reviews, these seemed like the boots for me. I had already tried another pair of Cabellas boots and sent them back for partial refund as they were clearly too big. (Shipped back brand new in box).
These seemed perfect as per the reviews. When I got them I was impressed how comfortable and wellt hey fit. Size 12 fit just like I expected. I did note the folding the one review had but felt that it would go away over time.
The first trip in these the folding over the top of the foot was uncomfortable but combined with some snow shoeing they didn't feel too bad. By the third trip (5 -10 miles each), the folding had given way, but the boots have bruised my ankles to the point I couldn't walk with anything taller then a running shoe. No blisters but a large gouge and bruise underneath the ankle bones. The inside of the boots seem smooth and nice, yet I refuse to put them on until my feet heal. I hiked 7 miles in my old Nike running shoes the other day, and my feet felt fine other then being wet cold, and constantly slipping.
These boots provide excellent support, traction, so far have been 100% waterproof, are very warm yet seem breathable. They do inspire confidence on slippery rocks, do an excellent job of protecting your feet.
I am hoping they break in, as I doubt I can return them with 20 miles on them. They are very comfortable when not moving however walking is near impossible. I have worn hikers and steel toes for the past two decades and have never had a pair this uncomfortable."

Great Boots,February 11, 2009

"I am very picky about my boots, these are the best I have ever worn, so good, I bought 2 extra pairs just in case Meindl decided to change them in any way. PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE THEM, I LOVE THEM LIKE THEY ARE. From the first day I was able to wear them in the field."

Great boot!,December 8, 2008
By durangobobfrom Cape Cod MA,
"This is a great boot. I am 52 yrs old 6'2" 275lbs. I have been suffering from achilles tendonitis in both heels for over a year, barely able to walk in the morning when I got out of bed. I have worn nothing but sandles for months. I used to be a tennis player and mountain hiker and have been limited to as little walking as possible. When I decided I couldn't take it any more and that I needed to get back to walking again somehow, I decided to find the best support for my feet and ankles that I could find. After alot of internet research I ordered the Perfect Hiker and have been very pleased with them. They have a sole that molded itself to my foot for great support. They keep my foot and ankles well supported and have allowed me to walk again. Now after 4 weeks of wearing these boots I can walk 4 miles around a wooded lake on Cape Cod EVERY DAY! These boots are soooo comfortable! I would highly recommend them to anyone. I suppose I should add that when I first tried them on and did a few spins around the living room I didn't like them. They seemed too stiff and the bend at the toe seemed like it was going to be uncomfortable. I decided to keep them anyway and all that went away the first day of wearing. Great boot! I live on Cape Cod now but I would have loved to have had such a great boot while I was living in Durango, CO and exploring the LaPlata mountains."

Great, Solid boot,August 29, 2008
By Drakfrom Chicago, IL.
"The Light Hiker wasnt quite as "Light" as I expected, BUT they are just about the most comfortable boots I have ever owned. I tried on the regular Perfekt Hiker at a Cabela's store to see which size I should order online which worked out well, so if you are unsure which size to pick, try out the the Meindl "Perfekt Hiker" at one of the local Cabela's. (None of the Cabela's near me had the "Light" Hiker in stock) The 11-EE (wide) fits me like a glove. While they are a little bulkier of a boot then I wanted, I decided to keep them due to how great they felt. I have a pair of Asolo TPS 520's that I have been wearing for the past 2 1/2 years, and they are still like new, and these Meindl's feel every bit the equal in terms of build quality & durability."

Cabela's "Perfekt™" Light Hiker by Meindl,May 26, 2008
By Triggergaugefrom Upstate NY
"Great shoes. Used to get another brand from Cabela's till they discontinued having them anymore. That was good for me !! These are hands down better than the others could ever think of being. I liked them so much I went out and got a pair of Meindl Magic 2.0 sneakers which I love as well. Now I wish we could just get Cabela's to handle the sneakers as well as the these hiking boots, that would be a one stop shop for me.
Aside from the steep initial price I am totally satisified with these boots and will buy them again."

Cabela's GORE-TEX® "Perfekt™" Light Hiker by Meind,April 7, 2008
By xreferencefrom Tucson, AZ
"Although clearly well made, these could NOT be worn for serious hiking "right-out-of-the-box" as some have suggested. I've been breaking them in for a couple of weeks now, and one of them is still hurting the top of my foot where it "breaks" - just behind the toes. Maybe it's just that they use the same materials for small sizes ( I'm a size 8) as for larger sizes. I don't know. They're getting better, though, and I hope to have them "hike-ready" before long."
